Hainan Char

A very resinous piece,
starts out typical, then during the midnotes I am reminded of Cambodi oudh, then when the resin kicks in it smells very good too, with a touch of pepper, like with some Vietnamese oudh, I can keep it heating for a while during this phase to scent my room, as long as it doesn’t get too hot or the smell will be slightly burnt.

Wardlab Malinau on the kodutu while I am hanging out in the shop. Sending richard my respects along with the trails of minty borneo forest scented smoke.

I had a customer come in who knew her attars and had just enough knowledge of oud, jasmine, sandalwood, and attars to make it interesting! Sent her off with lots of samples - what a treat to meet someone with a passion for fragrance.

This morning’s yawns are filled with the breath of “SOLIEL MIELUX,” on the warmer. Which appear in tin rough chopped shiny dead crickets. Accompanied with the golden song of just a fingernail of Habzound’s SRILANKAN sinking. My first sunshine of the day, this honeyed marriage. I am awoken grateful for these clouds mid June.

I love your electric heater. Where is it from? Is it the new Shoyeido one?

EDIT: OH, it is the Kodutu by Shoyeido haha. How are you finding it?

Wondering the difference between this and a subitism?
some physical differences:
- the heating ability is more on subitism
- the surface area is larger on subitism
- you can control a lever like mechanism to elevate the wood away from the heating source and decrease the temperature on the mica in Kioka, not applicable in the subitism
- you can hold the Kioka in hands and bring it close to your nose and can wrap your palm around in case you want to sniff closely
- Kioka uses battery, my subitism don't

after all, the idea of Kioka and Subitism is the same, heating wood with an electric heat and mica plate

It is acceptable but mediocre. Has some definite negatives as well. It came with a weird plasticky aroma, it's overpriced, cheap plastic build, it's not rechargeable and it goes through batteries quickly, the mechanism used to turn on the heating element requires you to slide a relatively large plastic switch and it doesn't move smoothly so it always shakes whatever is on the mica plate. Finally it turns off after three minutes which requires you to slide the power switch to the off and then back to the on position to restart, which again shakes/scatters small splinters on the surface of the mica. The heating element is very small - a tiny coil - so there's only one spot on the plate where things get warmed up

It's functional, so I don't see any need to buy another, but I wish this was not the one that I ended up with.

i am removing all plastic and installing it on a ceramic cup. also the heating ceramic plate part will be 15cm away from the mechanics inside and the plastic around the wire will also be removed. i had this heater a couple months and i turned it on today within a second i realized the plastic smell and turned it off, unscrewed it and saw how close to the plastics it is. i will make it perfect.

That's a lot of cons man. That'd piss me off for sure.

The "automatically turning off after four minutes" is the line on japan-incense told me everything I needed to know, as to whether it was something I needed to consider. I was sorta surprised that would be something that'd even be built into something like this!

True. You have to assume if it kept heating any longer than that and you'd start to smell burning plastic. Surprising coming from Shoyeido.
