Session 2 today of this White Shavings from Purple Wild Kyara. 180c, didn't write about it earlier on as I realised at the second session starting at 140c for around 5-10 mins then going to 180c in my room was actually better to smell the Kynam, I could actually cup it and smell it the Kodo way with big whiffs, in the living room (and the sun is shining on me most of the day) it doesnt work when I do that, but in the bedroom (with tons of noodle pots lying around but windows wide open and much cooler than living room), not sure why, my room is more messy, but maybe it has something to do with it being cooler in temperature, in my room?

Notes: Creamy, spicy, elegant woodiness, milky, buttery, "purple"... then purple fruits like purple type berries, sweet, slightly bitter, fruity (red and purple) etc.

Gave off slight effects (but definitely "feelable") of a fun excitement in my stomach going up to my chest.

Done another small 5-10 min session there on 200c, was quite good, that temp is way more bitter cupped, and better with wafting, sweet purple berries, spicy, bitter, sweet cream, butteriness, fruit juice, slightly cooling.

Here are the purple white shavings, 2 different kinds -

Hey all, looking to get some wood but just a bit overwhelmed with the selection and whats available! I've been researching for a bit but I just wondered if there were any favourite types that anyone would recommend?

From the sounds of it, cultivated kinam sounds like it would be quite nice

Once you start down that CK road or just kynam in general there is no turning back lol. Most if not all of the vendors here sell CK at excellent prices or if looking for a selection Kangiiten's Shin-Kyara range are a very good starting point.

Hi there. Welcome.
CK is becoming my standard go to wood to burn now. It leaves a great after burn scent in my room for quite some time. It might be a good starter to explore.

Also maunomoku has some really nice ck - dense and resinous.

Hey bro, I love ya and that, but please dont mislead people and say Kangiiten sells Shin-Kyara, they dont. They sell CK, and my pet peeve with Kangiiten (even tho I love 'em) is that they call their CK "shin kyara". Shin-Kyara is a type of wild kyara, meaning "young kyara", and you get hon-Kyara meaning, "mature kyara". Saying Cultivated Shin - Kyara is fine though IMO, but it is not real Shin they sell. I am only saying because it was one of my first problems when getting my head around kyara terminology, it is already confusing as it is haha 😆.

KyaraZen Merauke from Kangiiten.

This one is enjoyable to a certain degree, it isn't a fancy, out of this world oud, and can be perceived as quite stinky tbh, I would stay clear from the powder since that powder IS made from this wood @Olfactory Nomad, but it is slightly better in wood form and on coal or even better, a sub!!! Compared to the live harvest a. filaria SQ Merauke from Faizal harvested in the 90s, which is superb on heater AND coal, of course that wood beats that a million times over, and thats the reason I heat it and dont burn it because its once in a life time type wood, its hard to get very good Maroke wood anymore. This stuff is more enjoyable as a fumigation or to enjoy your self with tons of smoke.

Notes: antique burning wood, oceanic (sometimes nice and clean, most of the time kinda like a dark, earthy, swamp), dark chocolate, dark forest-y notes, extreme earthiness, very high soil notes, bitter with some sweentess a well, very oudy, with a nice vanilla creamy smell on the post fumigation.

This is fumigation wood and I will keep it when I dont want to burn or heat some high quality stuff for a good 3-6 hours (including incense sticks) and just want this beautiful, very oudy after fragrance.

For some reason, the wood is very soft, I snapped a piece and I was preparing for a bit of force needed to break it, and it just broke in half like a piece of cake (literally)... anyone here tell me why that might be?

Yeah, I agree with all of the above. At least with the chips you have a couple of options as to how your going to heat it. I suppose I could put the powder on coal but I'd prefer not to. I'll admit it's not a profile I'm used to at all hence my distaste but not everything in life smells good.

Maybe this needs to be taken up with KZ then? I've steered him in the direction of where to buy CK. I know Kangiiten's Shin-Kyra is CK. This is why I steered this guy towards that website. What KZ calls it has nothing to do with me.

The flowers are soooo pretty though. Japanese apparently have a big culture around them, didn't properly read the wiki but I think they are depicted in their art quite often in certain periods of their history, and probably still to this day.

Where did you steer him towards? What website? KyaraZen surely must have tons of connections for super high grade CK, like stuff the Japanese get... maybe not though and his whole name is fantasy 🤣.

Sinking Sumatora A. hirta from KyaraZen/Kangiiten at 120c then 140c then 160c for the last couple of mins.

Notes so far in the burn, since it goes through changes after long sessions but I just wanted 20 mins, gonna do 40mins a couple hours before bed: Sour, almost fermented type red fruits, syrupy red fruity cola notes, and I guess what you could call subtle animalic notes for sure, resin, light jungle greenery, with some fleeting hints at florals, these notes just got stronger and stronger as the temp went up. So I am gonna go back down to 140c (if I can, if I cant ill jut stick at 160c for the next 40 min session).

This wood is quite rare from Sumatra and I THINK Sumatora is a Japanese term in Rikkoku or something? @iori could you explain if this is true or... not? Would be helpful, thanks brother!!!
