Sinking Jayapura. Very strong menthol but not cooling at all. Very spicy and sour. That pretty much dominates but there is a nice green herbage that pops through. Hints of sour jam notes but it's all about that menthol, at least at 180 degrees. 190 is the same and 200 degrees is the same. 210 and i'm getting a roasted marshmallow scent. 220 is the sweet spot. Lot's of vapour but not a lot of change is smell, still plenty of menthol but not much else. This is a great wood to clear the sinisus. I have a feeling I'll be smelling this long after I've turned off the heater. Slight burnt notes at 230, too hot. It's nice but not much nuance to it.

My woods from YusaAromatics that smell awful on heater for me, but smell amazing on spent coal with micas... its definitely a weird one. Do you just use tiny shavings? I might use tiny twigs of the woods again on the heater one last time.

Some wood I have smells seriously raunchy on the subitism but is wonderful at high temperatures for sure.

Yeah, it is a weird one, isn't it? I mean, I would think all woods would atleast have a somewhat good fragrance on a heater, but the ones that are good for coal may just be a little weaker on the heater? It is very strange IMO.

What a name!

I am burning kaden kobunboku, got a long box from Sensia. This business has been carrying baieido stock for a very long time. Back to 1994 at least. sometimes I wonder if places like this might have some really old stock of the wood chips for example.

It has a nice sweet spice mix and benzoin resin opening, also clear woody note with oud and costus, also i assume sandalwood and tabu. Not as dry as kai un koh but you can smell many common ingredients. Some leafy notes - patchouli I assume.

This one I would burn to scent the house if having guests who knew would enjoy incense but maybe weren't super knowledgeable - it has a nice palatable neutral Japanese style spice sweet resin and Wood mix vibe to my nose

Yeah these were tiny shavings for sure. Flat as well. Plus I don't use the metal dish unless I'm using powders or sandalwoods.

habzoud walla Patta, a strange spice mixed some cooling top notes and turns into floral sweet smooth ouddy goodness. This batch has more strange spice then the previous batches I got, that had mostly cooling notes on top

Back to the Sinking Leyte today. Pretty good chunk. Heaps of resin in it. Was getting nothing until around the 180 mark and have now gone up to 200. Definitely a cooler menthol in this one. Nothing spicy. Just starting to get a nice perfume note. "Perfume" is such a vague term in this context and yet one I think we can all recognise when said. Vanilla but not overly sweet. Like a dry vanilla or a vanilla orchid flower. Needs to be hotter still. No visible vapour yet even at 220. Some vapour at 230. I think I'm getting close to it's optimal heat as there are some changes to that perfume vanilla into something fruity. Actually, I'm getting images of warmed pear and vanilla custard. Like the kind your Nan used to make you when you were a kid. A comforting scent. I'll come back for a second serve later today.

Sq Merauke from Faizal. Had a rough day today and really needed something to help me escape for a bit, after trying a couple different woods this one got me there, jungle on a beautiful day, can almost smell the living jungle sound, the earthy floor full of life the smell of Ylang-ylang flower in the background, and this beautiful creamy oudy resinous scent with a touch of spice and a hint of a lovely slightly minty bite wafting around me.

Old pack of japanese wood chips from a japanese temple

. Powerful and unsusual herbal note that settles into floral smooth sweetness. im guessing its from indonesian origins, but its a profile ive never experienced. The wood are chips and not heart wood, but the resignation is proper and permeating. I'm so happy with most of the japanese sourced wood I tried

Nice score.

Kangiiten Tarakan Classic agarwood powder.

Low heat for most of the session, then just a little higher towards the end.

Some similarities to Sabah and Borneo oudh,
a hint of muskiness, antique wood vibe, a little mystery fruity floral, some nuttiness, some oudiness, some waxiness.
Worth the money?
