Take and mastsu grade from shoyeido. Not burning, just smelling at room temp. Berry's floral cosmetics, red oil leaking out the take grade. They both have the same profile but take seems like a better grade

Sinking Sumatora by KyaraZen/Kangiiten.

I used more wood this time on the heater and it was way more powdery, I basically finished most of it (probably only 10-20mins left on it now in the dish) in 40 mins, went from 120c - 220c. The longest temps I was on was 140-160c.

All I can say is, wow, bliss, head buzzed after 40 mins. Good shit.

Gentle woodiness, forest earthiness, fleeting (but amazing, and kept coming to the top with every temp increase with the higher temps making it stay the longest) green clean forest notes, sweetness and sourness in a nice balance, a little resinous, lemon-y orchids (not much florals that I can sense, I have been studying this wood for a good bit now, might put a tiny piece on warm coal with 2 micas to see the contrast and differences), super high quality vanilla with an animalic human musky sensual creamy and milky note with it, musky vanilla milkshake (thats not even a thing!!! thats how crazy oud is), strong humid jungle earthiness and a bit of greenery and gentle woodiness, and more, pleasing sourness than sweetness at this point at 220c, 10 mins before the ending.

Next burn will be a 20min session at 220c to see what happens further. I am collecting all the finished slivers/granules/powder in a bigger dish bowl (not that much bigger than the tiny ones for heaters, it was actually the dish used for my big ceramic heater that broke and wasnt very good, a ripoff of the lotus heater or whatever) to use on coal to squeeze more out.

Philippines from kangiiten. A lovely bitter sweet vide with this lovely woody note. Some of the first pieces in this batch i used where not so good so left it for couple of of weeks, the piece that I cut off of a Chunk I used today was so good, if that is the only good chunk it would still be worth it!

Are you able to pinpoint what part of Philippines their wood is from or is it a variety of different scent profiles?

I think it is multiple regions. I have a full bottle still ( I bought 2 3g bottles), and all the pieces seem to smell different, even when cut up, but that could just be the nature of wild agarwood too. But they are also from bracelet scraps, so I would probably say they are different species in the bottle, but cant be certain without asking Kangiiten. It seem like their new legacy series though (like the Sumatora I bought for $60/g) is from one species, even though the Sumatora is bead scraps too. Sumatora is a Japanese term (I believe anyway I could be wrong, but looking on KZ's Rikkoku blog post Sumatora is listed there) for high grade Sumatra agarwood.

EDIT: Oh and also, the Sumatora is called "Sinking Sumatora Hirta", which means it is just 1 species, "aquilaria hirta".

Thanks Renton forgot to post my reply! I would love to know myself because it would be a profile I would love more of! The woody note I need to study as I would happily settle for that note in a bottle but it isn’t any of the normal profiles I know of anyway, a few of there woods seem quite mixed!

There have been some sick pics of oud here of late. Here is my contribution - i have very little wood that is solid like this.

Origin is unknown, acquired in 1998, this is a piece of a cross section of a small solid heartwood log about 2.5-3" diam. Has some salivary notes which makes me think it might be Sinensis, also this material was in an old TCM herb shop in Hong Kong before being sent to the US.

The pores are kind of compressed, I tried to get some closeups shots and one with no glare. I am about to put a sliver on the subitism and see what I get. Very heavy sweet scent, lots of black sticky bubbles when heated.
