ASO CK chip on the subitism at the moment. I'm a big fan of cultivated kinam - my "mainichi koh" game is much improved thanks to this stuff.

No surprise that the chips ASO carries seem carefully selected / hand picked (all uniformly and heavily resinated) and the aroma has its own distinct characteristics. Yes CK is CK on one level, but there is variation there for sure and this does not exactly match the profile of other ck woods in my stash, and I could pick it out of a lineup. There is a unique dignified quality to the sweetness of this, I can't put my finger on it but something that's sets it apart a bit and makes it interesting to have in my rotation. A little less full on sweet pastry, and a little more savory/perfume layer over the CK sweet-bitter. Good stuff, still just getting acquainted with it I admit, so I will add more if I notice anything else over the next day or two

My phone's camera is mediocre, photo doesn't show much.

Update on that CK from ASO - there are two things that are different from other CK woods i have heated, the combination gives it a vaguely bakhoor like aspect, as I understand it.

First, the unique sweet note i have pinned down - it reminds me vividly of the honeylike sweetness of Greek Monastery "acacia" incense. Second, there is a distinct muskiness that adds something unique. Noticed this this more when walking into the room where it was burning later than when I was initially heating it.

I don't know if this is a facet of the honey/acacia sweetness or a different layer altogether... it comes and goes - pretty low/soft, cologne like almost.

Unusual stuff, I'll be curious to see if the next chip has the same profile

Looks quite similar to my Sumatora, agree? Same type of scent profile, sour, hot etc. Except I get a clear but dirty creaminess with it a well as human musk notes with some BRIGHT yellow vanilla, and some lactonic notes with some splashes of greenery

It is very good stuff for sure I agree. I have a small sample of this that I use sparingly. The resination colours are quite heavy and different from other CK's I have tried. No complaints here.

Shoyeido Matsu Grade

KZ posted a video at Instagram which stated:
“In the Rikkoku-gomi, why is Sumatora or Sasora described to be sometimes mistaken for Kyara?” It later explains that these ripe materials sometimes smell like kyara during their top notes. Well, that’s what I experienced just now with a piece of Shoyeido Matsu grade. I was immediately puzzled, thinking…… “this smells like Kyara!”
Shoyeido green oil to be exact. It was a nice ride for a few minutes😊

Shoyeido Rikkokugomi Managa
Managa one of my favorite profiles ever! as they say tasteless/flavorless or taste of nothing!

Red profile and so complex, deep, fruity, bitter, floral, spicy, liquorice, this seem to be crassna with much to explore.
Those are nice looking slices you've got there. Really nice to hear reflections on a rikoku set. I'm going to try to follow your lead here at some point. I enjoyed my session with the kyara the other day.

Kangiiten - White Shin-Kyara I (kind of) like this powder and a little goes a long way. Maybe too long though. It's incredibly sweet from top to bottom and only once you start getting up there in temps does it push out a cooling mintiness. I can only use it sparingly though because that cooling mintiness makes me nose blind very quickly. All of a sudden I can't smell the powder at all even with my nose stuck in the bowl and yet while walking around for the next 20min that's all I can smell. It's weird stuff and I'm going to say it's my least favourite. Quite one dimensional with nothing really to discover.

Wild Shin-Kyara 61kinds named Fuji Smoke.

I have been using slivers of this wood on my heater (directly) for a few days now since i got it and its still bringing amazing aroma and a nice relaxing feeling at 140c like I do today for just about 10 mins. I like to do short sessions.

This time:
Heavenly creaminess (almost buttery), some soft and subtle mintiness, spiciness, yellow florals, golden vanilla, sweet creamy chocolate, some bitter/sweet dark chocolate, resinous, slight soft greenery and subtle forest notes

Lovely experience. This time it was rather strong, I guess my nose is doing good today, or its because I left the veranda doors open all last night and let cool air in throughout the night.
