I'm a little confused because it literally says kinam on the bottle and at that price it has to be cultivated. Maybe you have smelled some poor quality batches of kinam in the past? There are different colors and chemotypes and so on. The current batch I have smells much better than the first shavings I was buying. 🙂
Lmao, yeah i definitely haven’t spent tens of thousands of dollars across countless sellers over the last 8 years. For both wild and CK.

Everything Ive smelled of CK sucks. I don’t care for it.

Whether it’s from Kangiiten, Miki, direct from farmers, or the countless others Ive tried. Ive tried every color, from hainan and Guangdong, etc. Outcome is the same. It sucks and the oils made from CK suck too. Just my personal preference, others are of course free to disagree and have their own.

Ill say it again, the shavings in question don’t smell like Ck and as we’ve established, many sellers these days mislabel things, especially non English speakers and non native English speakers.

The wood in question has been sold by other sellers for 10x the price as yellow kinam and it doesn’t smell like CK or kynam to me. It smells like really good hainan wood.

Ive let others try these as well whom have an experienced nose that I trust and they concluded the same.

The hong Kong shavings from the same seller are also quite nice, even at room temp, especially for the price.

I thought that was the one you were heating. You put me onto that seller a little while ago. I've got a couple of things from them in my cart but haven't made a purchase yet but yeah.. I have been confused about what they mean exactly because I don't want to buy anymore CK, particularly if it's mislabeled. I trust your nose though, so it's interesting that you're saying it smells like something else.
Yeah I took a gamble just based on the looks and low price and fortunately was quite pleasantly surprised. The “malinau”’ sticks from them are not good, so Id skip. The Hk and hainan sticks and shavings are quite nice tho.

It’s refreshing to to see someone with juxtaposition with CK against many fans of CK. I personally like it. But the same uniform scent may get boring for me at some time. I’ve tried Hainan oil and was unimpressed. I’m curious to try Hainan wood after reading the thread.

A fair and valid point to be raised here is that within agarwood, this weird hobby we all have, no region is uniform or universal. This ties back into the previous point about things being mislabeled and the overall dissolution of shared reality via words losing their meaning. Same goes with our personal preferences and perception.

Many sellers and re-sellers incorrectly label things.

Some label based on genuine geographic origination, some based on their opinion of the scent profile, some based on outright deception, some based on trends, and Im sure other reasons, etc.

Ive also tried countless hainan oils as well, which also sucked by being very one dimensional, boring, predictable, etc.

Ive tried a lot of genuine wild kynam varieties which gives me the contrast for CK and shapes my dislike for it.

Well-put. Especially your 3rd paragraph.

💯 agree with this
Bcz of this reason i try to add a piece of wood next to oil and shipp together
İ have some experience with this
For example an oil from X region
A friend of mine asked me and he was so kind when asking,Bro i tried more than 10 oils from X region, all had differences but yours is most different etc
İ asked to heat some wood (mine or if he has from that region)
Just half hour later hearing good words about how we could capture 💯 of wood’s true scent etc
Amd if mine is from X region
Than what are the others

glad I gave you a little chuckle there and sorry for assuming that you were still cutting your teeth on this stuff. I misread the context of your comment, obviously was not aware of your vast experience.

@YusaAromatics - Old Tarakan Borneo Vintage Taiwanese Collection

A beautiful honey-tobacco scent comes of this. Woody, resinous, sweet, and oudy. The sweetness is probably my favorite scent of all incensed Oud.

I’m also picking up some peeled orange from other pieces of the same bunch of Oud. Very beautiful.
