Found a box of Holy Land 1 (pre-reformulation, I believe) that I got from Beth at Essence of the Ages over 10 years ago.
I stashed this one away believing this was one of the last of the original boxes. I think it may have lost a bit of it's brightness and punch due to age, but still going strong in today's burn. Heavy and dense with musk and tobacco spiciness happening here after the first couple of minutes. I've been craving more Tibetan style sticks as of late, must be the cool weather. Tibetan style sticks are also a pleasure to sit outside with and burn. They mingle in the cool air very nicely.

Got my (Old Stock) Wild Yellow Kyara sticks (6-8 sticks for £60, I, luckily got 8) and Top Grade Purple Kynam Vietnam Nha Trang Stick sample. The yellow stick when I tried it just made my brain melt, I was going into stupors so badly I cant remember the scent all too well, but it was fucking good. And the Purple Kynam that was great, purple seems to keep you a little bit more alive with its spiciness but all away through the stick it was minty coolness here and there, as well as spicy, sweet, and a scent I, just, cant... explain. It was a passing scent every so often and it kinda smelled like resin of the kyara but it was also similar to a high end hugo boss? It was weird, but so deeeeelightful, very complex for both of these sticks. Here are some pics (ordered off etsy shop, shop name is in one of the pics... look closely 😉 ) :

Yellow Sticks I broke to have more experiences with while listening: Crystal Del Luna is the shop hehe 😀

EDIT; The purple stick is 100% wild Purple Kyara, and I could tell even tho never had wild kyara, but it was more than what normal Cultivated Purple is like, it had the minty coolness the full way down coming and going and really complex aromas that i cannot explain lol. The yellow is wild too and it is very very weirdly, buttery, smooth, spicy, sweet, light creamy, like milk and a bit of cream mixed, with some woody smells. It is really insane.

Transitioned to burning shavings of palo santo and royal hojari frankincense resin. I recently set up a desktop incense station with an ash-filled ceramic bowl, Shoyeido charcoal, and some inexpensive mica sheets I found on Amazon. This simple combo is really nice. Highly recommend.

Got my first ever box of Shoyeido Genroku @Renton's recommendation. It's incredible! One that I will now always need to have a box of.

CrystalDelLuna's (Old Stock) Wild Yellow Hainan Kyara. You get around 6-8 sticks in a tube, I got 8, and broke the sticks into 16 or 17 pieces, and have 1 full stick that I will break 2.7inches off when the other sticks are done and use that then use the rest of the large stick, the stick is around the same size of a Shoyeido Daily Range stick. These sticks are amazing, notes get added and some notes dont appear depending on what stick I choose, because they are broken, but you still get the overall scent that is Yellow Kyara, sometimes you just miss that minty note... NOT THIS TIME 😀 . Upon lighting the stick I got a very nice creamy, dessert-like (almost) notes, that stayed as the main (noticeable to me) note for around 2.5-3mins, maybe 5... then as the stick was getting more and more awakened it came out with a very, very soft, gentle, floral notes, slight floral notes, then the second the floral notes entered it just became more and more floral from then on every second, eventually reaching a note of what I can only describe as a bouquet of flowers, and a scent like jasmine and orchids, I felt like I was in a field of beautiful rare flowers, it was quite something and it touched my very soul. This note was staying around for a good 15 mins then, slowly transitioned into a kinamic minty-ness, very subtle, but not subtle at the same time, if you understand this? It was, almost powdery but that minty note was not a CK minty note, it was more full on, more depth to this note than I have experienced (other than the time I burned the Top Grade Purple Kyara from Vietnam Nha Trang Stick, I got as a complimentary, that had this same type of minty-ness all the way through the stick, although it wasn't there all the time it came in and out with a purple Kynam scent that was similar to purple CK but just on another level, this stick was also made with wild Purple), the mintiness was soft, smooth, velvety with that note of florals, even though the feeling of being in a field of rare flowers was almost gone, the florals were still there, but with a hint if an indepth minty note for the last 10-15mins of the stick. The stick was around 4.5-5 inches MAX (maybe smaller, tbh probably was, could have even been anywhere between 3 and 4inches) and lasted around 30 mins.

沈香 Jinkōh Hoen by Gyokushodo.

Vietnamese aloeswood, with basic Indian Sandalwood, spices and florals. A nice, complex but not too complex stick from this daily luxury range. It has a nice aloeswood presence and sandalwood, no real dryness in the smell, probably because of the florals and a nice [somewhat] resinous scent of the aloeswood.

Haven't used this stick as much as the other 3 packs I got in this range by Gyokushodo, but I have tried every box now, all that is left is bigger boxes to buy form this vendor.

If you are in the UK (you probably already know this but just in-case) the biggest and best vendor for Japanese (and some Indian) incense is www.lotuszenincense.co.uk and for Indian quality oil based but no synthetics (that I know of) sticks and even some agarwood is www.templeofincense.com. But if you are gonna buy agarwood in the UK, go with www.pureoudh.com 100%. They are better, and have way more variety.

Five Hills Mysore 白檀 by Shoyeido Daily Range. I like this dry, Mysore Sandalwood stick, it is weird, how such a dry Mysore sandalwood can be so pleasing. Instead of real creaminess, it is more, creamy - milk, butteriness is shown in the dryness of the stick, like dry ... butter? (And of course the dryness of the wood, very noticeable) Weird. It is a creation made to stand out.

On the last few pages you comment about shoyeido horin line with tenpyo and genroku. Did you try muromachi from this line? Pricewise it sits just between the two you mentioned: genroku and tenpyo, and I found it really nice and would recommend it.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will. They are all out of stock currently on the biggest (and best) UK Japanese incense vendor, www.lotuszenincense.co.uk.
