So, before I even left my room when I got up this morning (apart from going into the toilet then back in my bed to go on my phone), I woke up shook myself, and thought, "hmm, I haven't burned any, Tenpyo, Peaceful Sky in a while, and I have 20 sticks of them coming from an old stock that potentially has a different recipe and amount of ingredients, and potentially so old that it could have a slight amount of Kyara in them, long shot though. So I got my bowl ready, my golden incense holder (specially for these things) with 3 different size holes, put it in the second thinnest one, so that the nub that is left is really small, like so small it cant be measured in inches (but I put it into the mixed incense glass jar I have anyway that I put all my nubs in). Anyway, it has been a while since I burned these, heck I got Tenypo and Genroku before Christmas and I still have a good few left, and I am so much more familiar with them now that I can pick out notes better and notes that I haven't smelled before.
The fragrance started off with a nice woody-oudiness, then shortly after as it burns there was notes of burning aloeswood on a coal or sub at high heat, with resin oozing out of the chips, it was very, very sweet, but in no way sickly sweet, it was soft and well rounded but also fierce in its aroma. As it burned, I got notes of sweet resinous(?) chocolate, purple berries (reminiscent of malaccensis and, hirta maybe?), and sometimes interruptions of just smokey incense that lasted only some seconds but was nice, almost gave it a genuine aloeswood wood burning feel, that jungle, harsh scent. Then it went back to the notes of, oozing resin, woody-oudiness with chocolate oozing out as well as purple berry-like notes. Near the end it was giving me light notes of beautiful powdery florals (which is the only way I can explain the scent I got), it was lovely, and perhaps some caramel. Then once it came to the end, it slowly went out in an explosion of floral, resinous, chocolate, velvety, GOOOOOOODNESSSSS.
Tenpyo, Peaceful Sky by Shoyeido in their Horin line, is fantastic, a stick that never disappoints when you actively listen to it.
