Look at the bottom of the cone, see the cold stream of smoke condensing below? Placing a bore 1/2-2/3 of the way up seems to help these burn slower and cooler. 30-45 minutes each.

So hollowing out the bottom of the cone somehow results in a continuous downdraft? Can I get a little lesson on the physics here? This makes me want to make some cones!

Shoyeido Premium Incense Assortment

ChatGPT suggested a sequence I am following through this set. My favorite incense historically has been “white cloud” from this brand, but now I’m stepping into the premium line….

Kangiiten - Kisen. Someone else on here mentioned these a little while ago and I had it in the back of my mind to dig mine out as it had been a while since I burnt one. I don't remember them being this woody and sweet? I'm sure there used to be some burnt notes but none are present in the stick I presently have going. Considering getting a fresh tube.

These are my favorite guilt free stick! Great for colder months. They're very warming to me, because they remind me of distant bonfires on brisk forest air.

Yep,

Could be! There's a lot of factors that play into our perception of scent.

I notice it down to my mood
Mood absolutely changes how we perceive scent. And as an extension of that, what we are smelling, can then lighten or darken our mood. I find it all fascinating because I think we don't take enough notice on what our sense of smell is doing for us on a daily basis. It's easily ignored or just incorporated into whatever we're doing without much focus. I've always been sensitive to smells and odours and often suffer from hayfever so what my nose is doing affects me greatly but it hasn't been until really getting into what we all love and appreciate here on this forum that I've been putting such a focus on the scents that are around me and how that affects me.

I know exactly what you mean, and it really is fascinating.

And it goes even further when you start thinking about how scent affects our sense of taste. Most of what we taste is actually done through the nose.

There's a lot of overlap between tea, coffee, and culinary nerdery and aromatics. Not to mention how many ingredients overlap between cooking and perfumery.

Such a fascinating world we get to experience through our senses...

Sugar plays a huge part in olfactory and when your sugar is lowered you are able to pick up much more. I have personally noticed that after eating cold foods my sense of smell is not as good. I am wondering if it’s the body using a lot of energy to regulate its self and pulls away from sensory perceptions. Temperature and humidity are also a factor and altitude.

KZ Eight Milleniums

It’s a strong blend with sublime not subtle sandalwood. That Borneol, spicy saffron and santal punch along with the resinous oud for me with at one, two and an upper cut. KO.
Smells like a terrific Japanese stick from shoyeido. But, full natural.
This one is great. Might go for another box .

Sounds lovely. I'd not had a look at that one. *Goes on the list*.
