I had it for several weeks now, tried couple times but I was underwhelmed, then with time I can see it growing on me.
It's a complete departure of the Japanase style, animalic and powerful, when the sweetness hit between the animalic notes this is the best part.

KyaraZen - Ultrafine Australian Sandalwood Joss sticks - a routine burn, but there's something I always seem to find bitter at the start, and today I identified it as a pseudo castoreum with sandalwood note. I made a dilution of some of this wonderful castoreum absolute mesOud made a while back and there's something about that scent I find here. Sometimes I refer to it as a burn toffee note, but it's almost more like a Sumatran benzoin note, a resin I don't love on high heat. Regardless brilliant sticks, the only "core"-d incense I own and it always just hits the spot!

I just found this maker from Hong Kong called Yi Chen Incense. there are about 4 different agarwood incenses and some other things like sandalwood and florals. It seems to be new. Is their agarwood incense good ? The prices are pretty good but I would like to sample it before getting larger amounts.

Omani Hojari Frankincense - Makan Luban

First time I procure this after some thought and reading about them. It’s supposed to relax, calm oneself down, and dispel negative energy. All things that are on my daily list of to-dos.

It smells like lemon, lime, vanilla, and fresh citrus peel. I’ve put it directly on hot coals. I have round mica plates, I might try burning them later on them to see if I get a different result. I think I can chew it as well, but just took a bite and it’s similar in texture to Gum Arabic. But it smokes like it’s intelligently designed to do that. I love this stuff!

Edit: holy S*** I just chewed it and it’s amazing! Puts a whole new meaning to “chewy” notes. I’ve chewed gum Arabic before. This is more lemony. I’m going to make tea from this, add it to water, and a whole load of other things to experiment.

I found the website. qingcoretechnology.com I messaged with them and they are using malaysian, nha trang and hui an agarwoods and laoshan mysore sandalwoods and jiangzhen/rosewoods. I'm hoping it's not mediocre but for the prices I don't expect it to be much more than that. It's seems pretty traditional but that doesn't mean they are using high grade agarwoods and it all may be cultivated meh. I'm sure it's not bad but I don't expect it to be Dr. Incense , Kyara Zen , Yi Xin and Prof. Incense level at the prices it is. the sticks are 8.2 inches long and 20 sticks per tube. Shipping is very good. $10 to the U.S. from Hong Kong area. It looks like they have just started to hit the western world last month. Lots of Youtube shorts and video stuff. That is how I discovered. I'm hoping it's really good bang for the buck pure agarwood incenses. I wish they had more agarwood blends. I have an ocean of pure agarwood incenses already and really don't need any more pure agarwood sticks

Doors and windows open, burning a long stick of kaden Kobunboku (Baieido). To my nose, a semi inscrutable mixture of woods, herbs, sweet resins, costus, spices etc.. no strong dominating note of anyone type of wood, just a pleasant natural smelling bouquet

I will highly recommend TaoistYu on Etsy. He carries a large variety of kyara and agarwood and sandalwood sticks, plenty of blends to choose from. Also some really nice Chinese recipe sticks. I’ve personally been loving the aged white kyara x insect hole agarwood. Great prices and sample sizes for everything. You should know most of it is cultivated but the seller is very straightforward about the origins and quality of his products.

Edit to add that he does occasionally carry wild and collector grade sticks. I’ve seen him put together custom packages for those who message him with those selections so he may have some unlisted items. And he ships from the US.

Kaden Kobunboku was really nice and agarwood forward over 20 years ago and most of Baieido stuff was great but that ship sailed way over a decade ago

Are you sure about that? Smells the same as it always smelled to me, I've been burning this since 2001 or so. it may be that somebody else burning this would interpret the agarwood note as being strong, but to me it has always been in balance with the herbs and other woods.

Welcome to the dark side! 🙂 Try throwing a medium sized, or a couple small sized tears into a bottle of water overnight in the fridge and prepare to the be amazed by the incredible, and refreshing drink that'll you'll be greeted with the next morning! I usually throw a smaller amount into a tall glass of water and leave it outside overnight but, man throughout the day I'll refill that glass again and again the flavor just doesn't vanish. I'm not a fan of the tea because it causes a weird sort of film to build up in the cups and the pot.

After you're done, keep the remaining gum and you'll be surprised that it can still be heated either on charcoal or the subitism.

"...bursts of ambergris buoyed by the airy camphor." Sounds great!

Awesome store, and I selected several items I thought would be nice but the shipping is just too much. On a 150 CAD order, the shipping was 100 CAD and the higher my order went, the higher the shipping went ....

Japaneseincense.com has TONS of agarwood incense as it's fundamental to Japanese incense. Write their email, and they'll tell you a good one for your price range. Yesterday I burned a Fun-in Kyara stick, long, and it was nice.

I love this stick and the price is right. But like I've mentioned before, the fan gets turned on and the windows open when I'm "allowed" to light a stick.
