RP - Pear/Mysore/Agarwood. One of my favorites, so cooling and purifying to start the day.
Baieido - Tokusen Kobunboku. Nice Japanese incense. Spicy, earthy, great regular in my rotation.
Yamadamatsu - Kayo. Nice sandalwood that reminds me of working in an antique wood shop or stringed instrument repair shop by candlelight.

Pulled out Floating Mountains last night, which blows my mind, so I'm trying to take it easy today.

Taesik Yun - If I'm not mistaken, it was your posts that lead me to Kayo...thank you!

Yamadamatsu - Shikun

Shikun is one of the Yamadamtsu's high-grade incense offerings.
Shikun(紫薫) means purple haze, and it features spicy, brisk agarwood based scent.

Smelling from the box, Shikun smells spicy, woody, herbaceous. It gives a comforting warmth and relaxing feeling.
Once lit, Shikun emits mellow caramel sweet woody fragrance that resembles the image of burning riped fruit and resin dense woods.

You might love Shikun if you like...
- agarwood from Cambodia
- sweet fragrance
- strong fragrance

Baieido Tokusen Syukohkoku

I pretended to blind smell it,
the results were favorable,
I can sorta “feel” the agarwood,
and my preference agrees with the
overall blend.

Next up... Shoyeido Infinity
I prefer to waft the smoke from 2 feet instead of 1 foot away. The kinam vibe seems more authentic when the smoke is more dispersed.

Lastly....Ken’s Brunei

I like this stick because the Brunei agarwood was sourced from KZ, and that certainly was a fine batch of mother tree heartwood.

Kyukyodo Murasakino

Every time I try to listen to this stick,
it is difficult, then my imagination goes wild.
Freesias, dragonfruit, opoponax, musk,
agarwood, more flowers, and ambergris.

As I’m enjoying the Dr. Incense Assam,
my brain urged me to do a side by side with
the Dr.’s Hongkong stick,
then I sensed a connection,
an overlap within their profiles.

.....there really is something to those
Chinese-Indian oud oils of late.

West Malaysian Agarwood sticks from Ken's august release.
Mildly sweet, incensy goodness. I find this stick is very simple, yet very layered. Simple because it's not a blend, just agarwood from malaysia. Complex, because the agarwood itself has spicy peppery clove like undertones.
It's like malaysian agarwood on a heater at medium. Resinous, incensy with subjucated roasted spices.

Today I received cultivated kinam(don't ask me) incense from China. I bought it just out of curiosity. how good it can be?

yes, it has a kinam-like scent profile. it gives off an airy, silky, cool sweet fragrance. (very sweet)
however, it lacks something I can't put my finger on. 'extra kick'? 'chi'?

$14.5 for 5gram at this quality? well, I can't deny it's pretty impressive.

I haven't smelt enough kinam to tell much about the differences between real(wild) kinam and this cultivated kinam.
my only kinam reference point is Yamadamatsu's Hojo series.
to me, this one feels like about 20~30% close to what I imagine decent kinam would smell like.

my concern is that I have no idea what they used to cultivate kinam trees. maybe there might be potential health issues
here is the link if you'd like to try this incense https://tinyurl.com/y2yq3zxu

Edit: burned a few more sticks. meh, I'm underwhelmed as I expected. 😕 it gives me a slight tingling itch feeling back of my throat. won't burn it again.
