Pistachio Musk - Batalat Oud

Don’t let the name fool you. This is not actual musk that is animalic. Musk is used interchangeably in the Gulf countries between a sweet fragrant oil, and actual deer musk. In this case, it’s the former.

This one is beautiful. It brings my love of Pistachios and the sweet musk together. There’s a slight nuttiness and buttery creaminess to this oil. It calms me down at night and puts me in a pleasant mood.

Cardamom Musk - Batalat Oud

Like the Pistachio “musk”. This is actually a sweet fragrant musk. But paired with cardamom and which is white and opaque. Or as we call it here هيل (hale). As you can imagine it’s aromatic but not overly fragrant. Something which brings slight disappointment. Because I love the pungent smell of cardamom that comes from Arabic coffee. It’s nice though.

What are those dark pebble-looking masses?
I’m not 100% sure but from what I’ve heard it’s just compressed musk grains, highly aromatic and concentrated. And it crushed and fluffed up they look like normal musk grains but smell a lot stronger.
A plan I’m considering is gathering all those pebbles, crushing them and tincturing them in alcohol, and macerating the loose grains.
