I found my UV torch and decided to check out how oud looks like under UG light
First the oud under visible light, from the top it’s Yuzhi AA chunk, then AA chips, then a Malaysian oud I bought locally, then mystery cinnamon smelling oud.
Under UV light
Yuzhi chunk split in half to show the grain
Oud oils
My phones camera doesn’t pick up the colors accurately, but for reference, oud glows a bright fluorescent green, Boyua glows Less green and more muted yellow, while sandalwood oil is a light fluorescent green and it’s transparent unlike the oud oil.
A UV torch is agreat tool that costs very little, i use it when buying antiques, it can show you fake ivory, glued up or resin filled woods and buffalo horn, varnishes and paints etc, with oud it'll be most useful in detecting glued pieces as thats very common especially in big chunks. When big oud pieces get chipped or broken during cleaning they glue them back together, because bigger pieces sell for a higher price when compared to small chips of the same grade and origin.
