SOTD: Kinam Absolut Faizal Privee
Ever since owning Roza Arabica, have been dying to try the rest of Faizal’s offering and he didn’t disappoint. Had the opportunity to meet him at his booth in Dubai and he was very generous and a nice guy to talk to.
I smelled Kinam Absolut and there it was. An ethereal scent flooded my nose.
It opens immediately with meditative frankincense, slightly green and balsamic, while sharp brightness of citrus brightens the start. As it develops, osmanthus takes centre stage bringing in a blend of ripe fruitiness, honeyed tea and subtle suede-y texture. It transitions seamlessly to the star: kinam oil and hainan qinan - herbal, resinous, camphoric, and almost minty, then slowly dries down leathery, dry and resinous with incensey smokiness.
It smells quiet, contemplative, not trying to get attention. Woody, floral, cool spiced, resinous, subtly leathery.
Like sipping osmanthus tea beside soft burning incense chips in an old wooden sanctuary/temple.
