Update on the gelatin capsule oil that I tried yesterday (Mity): even though the opening smells odd, the base notes had a nice, long duration and I could smell the oil the next morning

Today I applied a blend of ejayb’s shavings oil and some of the good old rksons mysore. A couple of the batches I have gotten from him had some weird notes but all have had a pretty solid performance in the heart/base. The batch I used in this blend had a bit of that almost musky sandalwood element and it is really very nice. roughly 15% of the shavings oil adds richness to the opening and then by the time shavings oil starts to fade the rksons oil takes over and carries it on for hour after hour (after hour)…

If you know you know, Mysore

Shiny! 🙂

I got a bottle from a seller on eBay, the cork was very difficult to get out, but with a bit of heating around the rim, it came free, and there was about 2-3mL of oil in the bottle.

Beautiful stuff. This bottle of mine was a full bottle, with a cork, and a metal wrap on the cork that had to be ripped. You can find how I came across it on this forum. Amazing stories every bottle of these. At one point there was a way to date your bottle using the number code.

I feel amazingly fortunate to have unearthed the few small treasures I’ve found, seeing what all the artisans are selling similar-aged oils for. My income can seldom afford many of the fabulous oils I read about around here, so my little capsules and remnant bottle feel even more special.

If I can leverage a reasonable trade with artisans who might find interest in my meager findings, I’d love to share and swap. 🙂

Whew! I’ll have to be extra careful in recovering every microliter in that case. 😆

I’m wearing sandalwood carbon dioxide select extract, high-grade from the older Eden botanicals, originating from Nisarga biotech in India. I had a copy of the GCMS on one of my hard drives - it was quite interesting.

This is a dry, woody, pungent sandalwood… intensity comparable to Vetiver, but classic Sandalwood aroma with various resinous and almost waxy notes. More like sticking your nose in a mason jar filled with sandalwood chips, than a swipe of essential oil…. A deep inhalation is rich, creamy delicious sandalwood all the way through. It doesn’t smell like saffron, but the dryness brings a certain aspect of the scent of saffron to mind.

This is peak Sandalwood for me, I have been looking for a supply of something like this for the last 10 years or so, but haven’t seen it anywhere. Guess this stuff goes in the vault!
