Whoa! Just wow.

My first order from @Al Shareef Oudh just came.

Ok. First off DHL for the win as far as international delivery. Second, I don’t think I spent enough money to warrant such luxe packaging ( I could’t get the ASO branded shipping box in the photo).

But, most importantly, I cannot believe what I just received here. Absolutely bonkers. The Arsalan sample of Hindi Oud is beyond top notch and what I’ve been missing in my recent quest for a Hindi Oud that I love unconditionally, and that’s just from one sniff of the applicator. Thought it was maybe an herby attar with a Hindi base. Deserves more attention from me later. The Hekayat, musk in sandal is sublime and I had to do some back and forth sniffing between that and Mesoud’s musk/ sandal maceration and it like comparing apples and oranges. Or in this case mandarins and flowers. Each giving beautiful aspects of the same scent material.

This Mysore however is a mind blower. Never, ever have I smelled, or imagined, a sandalwood with anything approaching this profile. If you told me this had a drop of Taif rose in it I would believe it. This is so undeniably citrusy rose it’s just crazy. But not just Taifi, it also shades into damscena and even rose geranium territory. Abundantly floral. I actually swiped way too much because I misjudged its projection. It’s still blasting out such extreme rose florality that I can’t imagine how it could resolve into a sandalwood scent. Just wildly, wildly perfumey. I don’t know how else to describe this. I may have to check in with my assessment here as it unfolds on my skin. I actually need to go wash my neck because the smell is so diffusive.

Not at all what I expected and not at all disappointed.

Was just talking about this one yesterday. I don’t have much sandalwood experience but this the best I’ve tried.

I want to try out more sandalwood in general. Should Tabeer and Craft be the next I try from?

I haven’t tried those but I really want to! As well as those from Habzoud, Aroma Sublime and probably ten more. I have some coming from Mesoud and I have high hopes for that based on descriptions on here. There are so many facets and notes within sandalwood and I love smelling them all. Or at least the ones from vendors on here.

Ok. Its four hours later and this sandalwood has just now reached the same scintillating, crystalline point that the HM SQ Mysore from Sulaym starts from! This is crazy. The SQ sandal was probably one of the best I have encountered and with this oil that prime beginning note is just part of the dry down.

Yeah, it's amazing. This is why I chose this one for my own musk maceration. Tempted to get another bottle just to have on it's own.

Sandalwood of the day for me is a full bottle of Mysore Qadeem 1980 from @An Najwa . This guy really knows how to deliver when it comes to very special oils such as this one. Dark honey amber in colour not to dissimilar from the Kangiiten special reserve oil. Rich and buttery with a slight lemon zestiness to it. I've actually slathered myself in this today and having a break from oud. Amazing oil.

Ejayb Sri Lanka from not too long ago. All of his sandalwood oil was interesting/collectible and really reasonable prices.

I've been meaning to follow up on a communication with him to see how everything is going since I don't use Instagram.

In any case this is a nice classic Sandalwood oil and I never would've thought it was from Sri Lanka, because my experience with that region has been mediocre, prior to the oils that olefaktory produced. This has a little bit of that musky bitterness in the opening, nice rich sent in the middle and has the full long lasting dry down that you would expect. Not the most complex or multifaceted oil but very good quality nonetheless

There was a kind of second gold rush there if I recall where they were uprooting all of these stumps that were left behind from times when the wood was more abundant, and the stumps were not considered worth extracting. That stuff was the dullest sandalwood oil i have smelled hands down.

I don't turn my nose up at Sri Lanka sandalwood anymore ha ha I think that dull stuff must've just been rapid high pressure steam distilled oil from roots that had been dead in the ground for a decade or more.

AL Shareef - MYSORE oil as described by someone else in this forum, very accurately, it is a complete perfume. Included in the most refined black lacquered wooden box with golden hinges. I rate this one of the top sandalwood oils in my collection, it has a distinctive personality, much like the Shah Oud, both are almost classic ideal recent distillations.

From Hamza - Mysore Mystique - THE ATTAR STORE. I must admit I cleaned him out before writing this. I wanted every last drop.

A powerful oil, I truthfully did not believe could be unadulaterated. Not like a 2 day Hindinol headache cloying, but a good 20 hours or more and the sillage!! I am still using the original 1g sample. At least 3x's a week for months now. I haven't even opened the 10g bottle. I've add to natural deodorant, shampoo, other less tenacious sandalwoods to give them sustain.

Curious and wanting to know where the bodies are buried, I compared it to every perfumery sandalwood type of perfume molecule additive including, Hindinol. Imperial, Sandexol, Sandalore, Dreamwood, Polysantol, etc.. I didn't find any intersection with these, what I mostly discovered was revolting and further confusion to all praises these recieved in perfumery blogs. Maybe they need some proper secret dilution that might enhance them?

Back to the strength of this Mysore incensy absolutely mystifying oil, and after obsessively dwelling about it's origins, I've concluded that whatever it is, I love it and hope I never run out.

Shout out to Hamza!

Ensar Oud - Santal Royale
This is the best sandalwood oil I smelled to date! It smells so rich and complex that it radiates a dark mysterious aroma including subtle spicy, citrussy and woody nuances melting on the creamy butterness we all love in our sandalwoods.

Just a follow up comment:
Drydown is pretty identical to all mysore oils I tried (in my limited experience)
Its this full packed intense start to heart phase. Very pleasing

It is way overdue that I mention the little sample of 1960s government factory oil I got from An Najwa. I don't believe this one is currently on the market. i've smelled a handful of things sold as government oils, generally ranging from mediocre to very good, but this one raises the bar considerably. I don't know if it was the wood or how it was stored, but this one is exceptionally rich, multi-faceted true to the wood and engaging with the senses. I smell Sandalwood daily and so my sensitivity is lower than many, but this one absolutely cuts through and presents its various woody notes clearly and cleanly. Very nice mature deeply fragrant saturated sandalwood of a type that I don't see very often, to put it mildly.

Outstanding fine top notes in particular (as I see it) for one of the government oils

I got about 10gms of this Mysore. To me it shows how a pure Mysore must age.....very delighted to have this gem...

Good decision

Rksons $2/g oil, one of several batches I bought. It seems too yellow to my eye - I haven't seen oil this yellow from premier providers - i think. Guess it could be all natural? I did my best to adjust the color in the photograph to match the bottle sitting in front of me. it is a saturated and orangish yellow, unusual in my stash. The first pic is left to right: RK sons, Tamil Nadu /WLA 2001, olefaktory sri lanka 2022 for comparison. The Tamil 01 is one of the yellower oils in my stash of premium oils.

Aroma is heavy, musky in that sandalwood way, a bit of an ambergris aspect to the muskiness - not the mulchy part of ambergris but the animalic aspect, also a little nutty.

Don't know what to think of this stuff. Each batch has its own personality, some are better than others but none are bland. Very useful for perfume making but I wish I could be 100% confident in its provenance.
