Kangiiten Tongan sandalwood oil. This is something that is very light and not very intense sandalwoody notes. This I think will be very good where I want to macerate and mix different oils.
I have seen that sandalwood takes over a lot of blends, this might be the solution.
Need to find a way to get this in bulk. Would appreciate if anybody has a source.
You can message them privately and they'll generally sort you out for wholesale if it's available.

I just realized I haven't seen any reviews of any of those specialized oils that kangiiten started stocking.

The TCM oils or the sandalwood ? I can speak for the sandalwood oils and they are really good. Very piney notes on the opening for the darker oil ( forgot the name ) with the typical notes of sandalwood doing a hide n seek. Then a few mins later the milky sandal shows up. Then it steals the entire show for a long long time. I got an additional bottle to see how it ages for my personal collection. I have not tried a lot of artisanal sandalwood or vintage ones but it definitely is one of the best I have tried.

Today it's Santal X Ceylon X-Collection by Al-Hashmi with Chinese Musk about .5 in a 1/4 tola
It's real smooth sweet smoky skin scent, I need more time with this.

Those are the ones I’ve been wondering about. I bought their plain Mysore and for me it didn’t have much of a scent to it. It looks like the light one is the only one they have left.

Sri lankan sandalwood from olefaktory. Nice sweet gentle oil, good aroma. No strong "terroir"

Mysuru 2 from @AlHind Oud - this time I'm getting some really interesting facets to this that I didn't pick up on before. I don't know if I'm imagining this but there is a light accessory note layer that in a way is reminding me a little bit of clean Malinau Oud - certain kind of charming sweetness and a unique woody confectionery Borneo oud note - but of course this is sandalwood so it's like a modification of the Sandalwood presence, not like a literal addition of oud. It was striking enough that I did a double take to see if it had been sitting next to a bottle of oud and somehow picked up a hint of it (it hadn't). Nice oil.

I mentioned it somewhere before, when I pulled the first fraction, It was similar to smelling clean distilled borneo oud oil. You are not wrong.

So interesting - i'm surprised I didn't pick it up the first time I smelled it. Perhaps I thought it was literally residue from a Borneo oil that I had swiped.

Would this be a good sandalwood to actually blend with a Borneo oud? That is something I am yet to do and I am also yet to smell what that combination is like.

It seems like it would be! (unless there was some kind of muddiness due to it being similar but not identical to the oud - piling on a bunch of things that are similar to one another can blur / muddy things)

Got two sandalwood oils and a patchouli oil sample from @Margon today. All three are interesting. Both sandalwoods have a robust presence in the top notes - I was pleasantly surprised by. One of them is an ambient pressure oil, the other distilled at high pressure. The two are very different from one another - the one distilled high-pressure has a variety of additional notes that give it a stronger top note presence. i'm a little unsure about how to describe these notes but they definitely set apart. The ambient distillate has a really nice rich dry woody top note that is more familiar to me.

it's interesting how dark the ambient distillation is, first I've seen that wasn't clear or pale yellow or straw-colored! I wonder what variable resulted in the dark color? Origin? Just dilation parameters?

I also got a very nice sample of patchouly with these - nice full rich oil, smells like it has lots of patchoulol and is a classic patchouly yet has some personality… something distinctive about the woodiness. Nice oil!

Thanks bro 😀🙏

Thank you for the chance to check them out. That ambient sandalwood oil is making me happy - just applied a good swipe.

What you call it ambient sandalwood is a loss bar distillation in our term .

Very glad to hear you like it i might will do more of that kind of distillation after i got back . We got so much wood that need to distill, if you can take few kgs i may able to reduce the price 🙂

Following up on my notes from yesterday on samples from @Margon

The "loss bar" oil is a classic Indonesian sandalwood with a beautiful dry woody presence to the top notes and nice full scent. More punch and character than the PB oil stocked by Fraterworks for example. It passed the overnight test - a good presence remains after a full night of sleep. Definitely happy to have smelled this oil.

The patchouli continues to smell good to me (this is an oil that can take some time to study because it's so complex and intense). What I noticed today was the mid notes and dry down have a very pleasant and tantalizing lingering patchoulol / camphor aroma.

I am fascinated by patchouli so I will be spending a bunch of time with this one.
