Mellifluence - 338 Hildevolk

This is a really unusual scent that does something I really love: hovers on the line between pretty and ugly. Costus, deer musk, and civet working with the "blue" materials the attar is based around. Unwashed hair and animal fur, blue tansy and blue cypress in one sniff. Curious about the oud in here (Blue Yunnan by EO). As always from Mellifluence, I really like the sandalwood used in the base. This is great stuff and I was confident that a higher priced attar from Abdullah would be worth the money.

I am revisiting indole after 2 years' hiatus. Wearing blood orange, black pepper, jasmine sambac (from Robertet, it's a beaat), orange blossom and. neroli. Patchouli fractions, Santalum album heartwood, Viet crassna from Eden which was just bought by Biolandes drizzles of spice, Persian saffron (new car smell), ambegris. It's a bit young to really appreciate the power of the santal and the indole, the synergy between the oud and other materials is good. The oud smells like a sunny log drizzled with smoked honey. I'm a lot more sensitive to the mothball-ness of the sambac than I used to be when I sprinkled it like talcum powder.

EO Thai Tabac(First release) and EO3.
Thai Tabaci feel just okay to me. I can smell only floral for a long time, I guess Gardenia(Edit)Jasmine. Chocolaty at dry down. Enjoy the dry down more than the opening.
I enjoyed Thai Tabac more with the second application, again the sweet dry down.
EO3 is definately rosy, but not the usual sharp, citrus rosy. It's a good balance of sweet and citrus. Its not any other Rose perfume. Its sweet, rosy and spicy in a few words.
The dry down after many hours is like Baccarat Rouge 540 extrait, fruits sweet.
This is what I have felt with all Ensar Perfumers(PP specially), they are the smoothes I have ever smelled. Even for a moment, I could not deny the quality of the naturals used. EO3 is beautiful but not stunning. Decant worthy for me, not a full bottle for the price. To me the complexity and quality is just from the natural materials. Kudos to Ensar's sourcing. 60 mins after dry down, it's less exciting for me.

If I was super wealthy, I imagine myself wearing all EO PP regardless of the pricing, but I am not and so decant is for me.
I wish to experience and compare some fo the ALD perfumes, hopefully soon.

RPP - Khus Attar 2021

I don't have many experiences with Indian Khus(vetiver). to be exact, I only have one bottle of Khus in its pure form. other than that, I've only smelt khus in blends. honestly, I thought I know how khus smell like because I've smelt quite a lot of vetiver dominant blends.

for that reason, I wasn't that impressed with Khus Attar at first because the khus in Khus Attar didn't smell like the khus that I think of. but after wearing it over the past few weeks, it taught me that there is a lot more that I need to learn about khus. and I shouldn't be caught up with the idea of how things should smell like.

besides that personal note, let's talk about how it smells like.

the vetiver in Khus Attar comes off gently and quietly. companied with sweet citrusy yuzu, it smells refreshing and warm.

you may ask, "refreshing and warm, what do you mean by that? don't these two words contradict each other?" yes, they do. but let me help you understand. imagine yourself standing in the middle of a vast grass field in summer. sun-soaked air, the refreshing scent of grasses. everything gleams in yellow-green color under the golden sunshine.

Japanese gave a name to this yellow-green color. they call it 黄緑‎(きみどり, Kimidori). and Khus Attar conjures up this color in my mind.

Khus Attar doesn't have much to offer in terms of a dynamic range of scent spectrum, nor potency. it doesn't even last 8+ hours. it lasts around 4 hours.

what it has to offer is a gentle relaxation that vetiver is well known for. and that's more than enough for me.

Mellifluence - 358 Sidrah II

Very pleasant attar based around cedarwood with quite a bright neroli mixing with the creamier woods. Need to put my nose to my wrist to get wafts of this. Like some others from Mellifluence, I'll put it away for a few months and come back to it. That normally does the trick.

Have you tried Adghal from Habz oud?

Sultan Pasha - Basmati Rose

My first swipe of this. An astonishingly realistic rice note on opening that’s like sticking your head in one of those big bags of basmati. Spices come in and there are savoury notes. Wasn’t sure at this point; do I want to smell like a biriyani?
Rose arrives to save the day, it mixes really well with the rice note. There’s a nice play between bright, savoury, woody, and floral elements. In the dry down there’s clearly a really nice sandalwood.

Just first impressions. A fascinating wear

My girlfriend wears this a lot at bedtime and it is so beautiful. The funny thing is, I wear it sometimes too and it doesn’t seem to feminine on me. Really nice, comforting, makes you feel warm.

I am wearing my own creation for Phoenicia, Sambaco Attar. It is built on Indonesian sandal heart ood, very rich and diffusive wood. An indolic blizzard of jasmine sambac, orange flower, neroli + tuberose, black pepper, Viet crassna mostly from Eden with a smoky honey woodiness is finished with ambergris. Very intense with slightly spiky sambac but well rounded overall. The oud adds to a warm profile and drydiwn is very long and fragrant not just on skin.
