RPP - Khus Attar 2021

I don't have many experiences with Indian Khus(vetiver). to be exact, I only have one bottle of Khus in its pure form. other than that, I've only smelt khus in blends. honestly, I thought I know how khus smell like because I've smelt quite a lot of vetiver dominant blends.

for that reason, I wasn't that impressed with Khus Attar at first because the khus in Khus Attar didn't smell like the khus that I think of. but after wearing it over the past few weeks, it taught me that there is a lot more that I need to learn about khus. and I shouldn't be caught up with the idea of how things should smell like.

besides that personal note, let's talk about how it smells like.

the vetiver in Khus Attar comes off gently and quietly. companied with sweet citrusy yuzu, it smells refreshing and warm.

you may ask, "refreshing and warm, what do you mean by that? don't these two words contradict each other?" yes, they do. but let me help you understand. imagine yourself standing in the middle of a vast grass field in summer. sun-soaked air, the refreshing scent of grasses. everything gleams in yellow-green color under the golden sunshine.

Japanese gave a name to this yellow-green color. they call it 黄緑‎(きみどり, Kimidori). and Khus Attar conjures up this color in my mind.

Khus Attar doesn't have much to offer in terms of a dynamic range of scent spectrum, nor potency. it doesn't even last 8+ hours. it lasts around 4 hours.

what it has to offer is a gentle relaxation that vetiver is well known for. and that's more than enough for me.
You should try Ahom Oud Vetiver Fresh Attar. I know you like Citrus Khas and I can see this one being liked by someone who enjoys that. I have 3 bottles of this one, at $20 how could I not?

I can't believe I haven't tried any attar/oud from Ahom Oud yet. 😂 thanks for the recommendation. I'll check that out.

Haitian Vetiver from an Ouddict friend, and Musk Jasmine maceration swiped separately.

This Vetiver is divine. After trying pretty enough vetiver oils from different regions and from different vendors, this Haitian is the next level Vetiver.

Sultan Pasha - Cheval d'Arabie

I put this on my neck in a hurry before an evening out. Totally over-applied! Take it from me, go very easy with this one. Let's just say, there were complaints even after I tried to spread it around a bit. "That's so strong", "you smell like a tree (!)", "I can smell you from the entrance". Starting to learn my lesson with SPA attars.

Smells fantastic 16 hours later!

Zoologist - Rhinoceros (Paul Kiler edition)

Neither all-natural, nor an attar, but just really wanted to share how much I love this scent. Tobacco, rum, old worked in suedey soft leather, and bitter astringent herbs. My closest comparison, though it doesn't do justice, is Yatagan. High praise - Yatagan is my favourite scent of all time.

I wore this the other day after a long time had passed since the last wearing. This is Jamaican rum to the T.

Tung by Yaaseen

This is such a rich and complex attar. Normally, perfumes focused around a leather note very rarely hit the spot with me (they come across as either too harsh and synthetic or just plain boring), but here the accord is used wonderfully.

The first time I wore this, I was immediately hit with a powerful 'out of the oven' banana loaf note that was being eaten in an exclusive gentleman's club, where the room is decked out in antique leather armchairs and bathed in a cloud of tobacco smoke and a faint smell of booze (a spicy concoction of some sort).

Wearing it today, the leather accord has subsided much more quickly (including the tinge of sweet banana), and instead i'm getting a heavy incense and sandalwood aroma akin to burning a pure Agarwood stick! I also detected a hay note similar to that found predominantly in Hindi Ouds but it didn't stay around for long.

Gtta say I'm throughly impressed and look forward to exploring this one further!

Today is Friday. Friday is a special day so I use special fragrances. I went for @Elixir Attar Ghaliyah Rosarie. MashaAllah one of the best rose fragrances I've tried. So well blended and "alive". On my skin it is all about a beautiful 3D rose(that keeps changing) backed by oriental spices and musk. I sprayed it on without any expectations, without reading any of the ingredients etc. I prefer to do that usually. It feels like I get to know the perfume/fragrance/attar/oud better this way. And it was a beautiful surprise!

Mellifluence - Hildevolk

Really impressed with this. The opening is slightly too sweet for me with a blue that’s almost like Ribena (maybe only Brits know that Blackcurrant juice). But then costus and strong civet really make things furrier and dirtier. Moving into basenotes with an incensey oud (must be the EO Blue Yunnan and a Thai oil that are in there) and hints of musk and sandalwood.
Lots of air, fur, wildness, clarity. All these things clashing together nicely.

Marisim Ghaliya Imperiale by Elixir Attars

This is up there with Juriah and Cheval D Arabie in my opinion. I haven’t tried Ghaliya Hind yet but I’m not sure if I need to anymore knowing that for my tastes the perfect Rose/Oud combo just landed in my lap.
Very interested in this one. You mentioned two of my favorites from pasha, is this similar? If you only had two get one of the 3 which would you go for? I wish elixir offered a sample

JS Kopi Gaharu
JS Sweet Volcano
JS Vanilla aradise 2
JS Japanese Garden
Habz Hasna

VP is a breakfast ^^ It remind me a hot vanilla coffee cup with caramel, and Speculoos cookies and off sweet cigarillos !
KG is a smell that I already smelled in Indonesia during morning market ! Citrusy, incense, kopi luwak beans and earthy vibe, with hint of vétiver !
SV is dark incense, gentle smoke with hojari vibe ! It remind me geyser in Iceland with The sulfur but without the eggs smell ^^
JG smell very sweet, floral , I get frangipani and other flower ! With something watery and acidic, no smoke no incense, easy to wearing… it works like perfume IMO
Hasna by Habz is very wearable also !
Frangipani dancing with sandalwood… simply a beauty… Works like perfume !

Actually my favorite is between Japanese Garden, Hasna, And Kopi Gaharu if I want to wearing it at work , but for my personal enjoyment, Vanilla Paradise v2 is in my heart with Sweet Volcano because it remind me Beautiful memories 🙂
