RPP - Khus Attar 2021

I don't have many experiences with Indian Khus(vetiver). to be exact, I only have one bottle of Khus in its pure form. other than that, I've only smelt khus in blends. honestly, I thought I know how khus smell like because I've smelt quite a lot of vetiver dominant blends.

for that reason, I wasn't that impressed with Khus Attar at first because the khus in Khus Attar didn't smell like the khus that I think of. but after wearing it over the past few weeks, it taught me that there is a lot more altai balance, lean belly 3x, arteris plus reviews, mycosyn pro that I need to learn about khus. and I shouldn't be caught up with the idea of how things should smell like.

besides that personal note, let's talk about how it smells like.

the vetiver in Khus Attar comes off gently and quietly. companied with sweet citrusy yuzu, it smells refreshing and warm.

you may ask, "refreshing and warm, what do you mean by that? don't these two words contradict each other?" yes, they do. but let me help you understand. imagine yourself standing in the middle of a vast grass field in summer. sun-soaked air, the refreshing scent of grasses. everything gleams in yellow-green color under the golden sunshine.

Japanese gave a name to this yellow-green color. they call it 黄緑‎(きみどり, Kimidori). and Khus Attar conjures up this color in my mind.

Khus Attar doesn't have much to offer in terms of a dynamic range of scent spectrum, nor potency. it doesn't even last 8+ hours. it lasts around 4 hours.

what it has to offer is a gentle relaxation that vetiver is well known for. and that's more than enough for me.
Wow. Great.

Santal Blue Lotus by Pure Aroma (Ziyad)
Santal Blue Lotus is heavenly, divine and gorgeous. It reminded me of Tyson's Euphoria and Holy Attars. Blue Lotus smells crazy addictive in this Ceylon Santal. I sense a touch of Frangipani too in there, but what Blue Lotus has injected into the attar is superb. A codistillation it is. Lotus casts its spell for a short time though. I wish it were present in drydown too. Let's see, what would happen after aging.

Civet Oud by Ensar Oud:
It is civety Santal, and Oud has turned to civet. It might smell weird to others, but I love this novel fragrance.

Lol. I had high hopes for this one.

Did you try attar or the spray?
I got a couple drops of the attar with a recent order of mine. I don't consider myself a hater - I complimented 3 of Ensar's oils in the Oud of the Day thread today! I just found this an odd mishmash of naturals that somehow managed to combine to smell like an artificial grape. Dissent is, as always, welcome & encouraged.

Melange Prive SQ

I don't have much to say about it but it's hands down the best rose I've smelled. The oud mixes well with it to create a scent that is absolutely insane. Even with the tiniest dot, it has crazy projection and good longevity. After the rose fades away there is an amazing deep oudy scent that sticks around for many hours after with a more modest projection.

BTW if anyone knows where I can find a rose that is similar to this one please let me know.

I got the same little sample with my order, twice. I liked it slightly better than You did. I don't think it smells like artificial grape but for me the scents just don't fit together very well. I've mostly smelled it off the stick but the one time I actually wore it, I liked it slightly better on the skin, but it didn't take very long before the top notes faded to reveal an unimpressive drydown. I don't really like the smell of iris in general, so if you do then you might like it better than I do.

In my opinion it's not really fit for any application besides personal enjoyment. I can't think of anyone that might have a fitting aesthetic, but hey, maybe you're that person. I can't think of any appropriate event to wear it either. Ensar says something about it being made for a sultan. If I were a sultan then maybe I can pull of the aesthetic somehow, but in that case I would still find something else to wear that I like better.

Not bad. I'll use up the free sample eventually but I'm not going to buy any.

Bortnikoff's Oud Monarch

It is a dark cacao floral oud.
I would not say it is more floral than oudy. Dark facets of cacao, oud and spices are perfectly juxtaposed by florals, I think Firangipani in this case. Tobacco, dark bitter cacao vibe makes me smile every time.
His recent compositions have been a little far from my taste. But, he's got some of my favorites like this one and L'Heure Exquise

Naga Tabac by Ahom Oud..I really enjoyed wearing this yesterday, perfect imo for cold weather.. the barn has mellowed a bit and has blended in perfect with tobacco. Specially when I went for a walk, there was a breeze of cold air and the wiffs I got from this attar were beautiful. On the mids I was able to smell the rose, just a tint of it along with Saffron. This Itr has matured well, the barn is there and it needs to be there, it complements the name, the story and personality of this Itr perfectly.

Emperor’s Court by Dixit and Zak

very interesting oriental Amber scent.

Strong, powdery amber with fennel and spice for days. The Hindi oud is slightly pickled/sour so the opening is bit chaotic and feels almost savory before reaching a pleasant vintage ambery heart. Lots of tenacity with this fragrance it’s pretty intense.

The drydown is a nice powdery vanilla and sandalwood. Overall a different experience than what we’ve seen from them but if you’ve smelled Naaz’s Attar Niyamat made by Zak it’s almost identical.
