Sultan Pasha - Basmati Rose

I’ve been wearing this a lot over the holiday period. My nose seems to have adjusted to the novel and new (to me) basmati rice accord in the top notes as that disappears pretty quickly into spice and rose. Then a sandalwood drydown blending with those elements that is very nice indeed. A big hit with family too!

Sultan Pasha - Cheval d'Arabie

Got a lot of the floral notes from this today. As well as the obvious bright taif rose in the top, narcissus and chrysanthemum were playing their part. A deep smell of slightly burnt flowers. Seems quite different each time I wear the attar; rewards a really light application.

The opening smells like putting your head in a bag of rice. Unfortunately I don't like the opening. It is cool and all but I don't like to smell like food. The drydown get much better but the opening was too hard to look over.
What's strange is that after having the same reaction as you, my nose has completely adjusted to that (rather synthetic I think) opening and now barely notices it for more than 10 mins or so. After that, it's the best rose sandalwood I've ever smelt. I think it was @Proust Madeleine who wrote on here, or another forum, about our noses adjusting to synthetic accords that are new to us after the initial shock.
ClaireV in her Attar Guide puts the opening down to pyrazines but also thinks the drydown is "pure heaven".

Thats very interesting😀

I blind bought 3g of basmati rose and and cheval d'arabie. And a sample pack. So I can try them a few times I guess 😀

I mostly use natural perfumes/attars so I'm quite used to that. I think it's mostly that the rice smells like rice hahaha. Which is what it should do ofc😀 so it's more of a personal preference I guess but I'll try it more times for sure

My 3 year old mongolian musk and sandalwood maceration.

The oil has turned into fire-red color. I love where it is at now. Time to filter and blend in some ruh gulab in some.

I intend to save half of it to play around. It has a slight dark greenish earthy tinge in deep dry down. Any recommendations for any green material other than oakmoss.
Have you ever considered blending Oakmoss in attars? Or Mint/Violet leaf?

One and half year old sandalwood/musk maceration in 1999 Tongan santal from @Hamza H
And then a nice big swipe of 40 year old Patouchili. This is by far my favourite combination presently.
At least eight hours and still a lovely mixed scent behind my mask and all to myself...

I don't think its just synthetic accords that require time for our noses to adjust to.I've had the same experience with certain oudhs, musks, vetivers or any other note/accord I wasn't really familiar with growing up and tried for the first time..A lovely moment though when/if it finally clicks for you and you can enjoy the perfume in all its splendour!
