JS Sunset in Japan

I found some sakura mochi in town.
It’s not sakura season but I enjoyed Sunset in Japan with some sakura mochi.
It was like having matcha with flowers and spices with an extra ouddy kick to go with the mochi. 😆

I’m pretty close to the center of it but the aftershocks were in different places all around me.

I have family from California, and when I would visit from the East Coast, I noticed all of their shelves had a little ledges on them, cabinets had latches, all kinds of little earthquake proofing add-ons they must have installed after having an experience like yours! Glad you are ok.

Imperial Tabac by Kashti. This is my favourite tobacco fragrance. Really powerful, hot tobacco note. Spicy, oudy, and with playful sweetness of civet.

Those things can be rebuilt. Glad to know you're safe and well, Ed. I have witnessed earthquake three times in my life. Quite scary.

Green Kyara (Agar Aura) attar. Love it.

Etro sandalo. This is about as close as I can come to really liking a commercial perfume. The first four hours I can live without, but the dry down of this perfume is quite nice. I used to like this one across the board but the top notes are too aggressive and intense for me. I really have a hard time with commercially formulated fragrances because they all seem to be boosted in some way or another with synthetics… or something.

Got another. Rat musk! Was petting my little male rat buddy for a while today and he leaves a little musky scent on the fingers. He isn’t neutered so that may contribute. Smells pretty much like ambrette seed absolute. Very very similar (but with the addition of other rat scents including weirdly enough a note nearly identical to carbon paper). It’s not a terrible smell…

Poor little guy he’s been with his brother his whole life, who just passed away the day before yesterday. I’ve been spending a lot of extra time, giving him cuddles and scratches to make up for the contact he would normally have with his bro. Rats are social creatures and are definitely affected by the loss of members of their family. This guy seems to be holding up pretty well.

This is our only attar (for now…) and I found it smells quite different on my skin vs sweater. It doesn’t evolve into the beautiful oudy, cinnamony scent on this sweater. 🤔

Tabacaurum (2019, SPA): Dry, saffron, fruit- and molasses-inflected florals and wet tobacco. Unlike during other seasons, now it is more incensy and it feels more 'oudy'.
