An Najwa, “Khaltat Baghdad”.

I’ve received many compliments over the last few days for the heavy swipes of Khaltat Baghdad I’ve been wearing. The aroma is certainly sublime, the bouquet of roses is in beautiful harmony with the spices, and the effect is very nuanced and sophisticated.

I’m wearing it exceptionally heavy lately due to the immediate curative effects it seems to provide for migraines. The effect is quite refreshing, with a reduction in ocular and cranial pressure, and a revitalization of the mind and body.
Thank you.

Cassis bud absolute - amazing stuff. If you haven't, you should smell some. Wonderful fruity almost skunky musky stuff - a unique and valuable note for sure.

Did you just get the email from Ensar about Borneo Zen Trifecta? I not really into any of his perfumes, but I love a lot of his attars. One of my favorites is Borneo Zen TW. So the email has me curious. Although there's no rose in the attar. Wondering how different they are. I did shoot an email to Adam.
Good question, I'm more into perfumes and pure oud oils but my favourite creation from Ensar is garden of eden attar.

Mucking about with my own combinations... trying to balance a patchouli, tonka, frankincense blend (also has liatrix, atlas cedar, ginger, oud and a few other things). I enjoy it but it's a pretty crude blend right now

Mesoud Mitti Gulab+.

(The + is for what I ended up adding to this:An Najwa Mongra saffron and some golden ambergris.)

This attar is enough on its own and really doesn’t need any help, but the addition of these two is sheer magic. I’ve been out of town the last few days and had been excited to come home and see how this was progressing and all I can say is 🤤. So much better than I could have hoped and a huge surprise! I only added the smallest amount of ambergris about a week after the saffron had already been in there for two weeks, but that was enough to completely transform the blend. The soft florals of the saffron marry perfectly with the what for me is the background role that the rose takes here. It also joins up with the NTT sandalwood that was used here and tames it a bit. The sandalwood was for me the dominant note and if you’ve ever smelled any of his NTTs then you know the profile and for me it practically screams on my skin. NTT, saffron and myrrh share a note that to me suggests plastic/vinyl and with the first two also flowers. Combining that note from two different sources evens that out and turns the volume down. The addition of ambergris just kick started the saffron and did so many unexpected things. It’s made the whole thing juicy and wet and dripping with honey and powderiness at the same time. There are also trace notes of a super clean Crassna. Not quite fruit, or cedar/resin but almost. It also smells incredibly “clean.” Suggesting hints of mildly camphorous lavender. Not at all oudy but those are the closest notes I can find. Mr P recently mentioned that Mongra saffron suggesting ambergris top notes and I have to say the two combine incredibly. And the ambergris has only been in there a week!!!! I can’t imagine what it will do once it’s fully combined. It blows my mind how transformative ambergris can be and it’s the smallest amounts that seem to have the most profound effects sublimating and ennobling everything it touches.

This has really captured my imagination-can you apply this stuff direct to skin or do you have to dilute it?

I think it just depends on your sensitivity. I have worn it full strength many times. Like most complex oils, some nuances get overwhelmed unless you dilute it.

Yi Si (Pillar of the Year) - Yi Xin

This is a surprisingly well composed perfume. I didn't think it would be bad, it's just better than I expected. It kind of reminds me of RP's Kyoto Gyoen if RP had gone for imperial Chinese garden.

It opens with a fruity bittersweetness, then moves spicy floral, woody, mossy, earthy.
