Got my package of extraits from @Mr.P today.
First things, wow such a nice packaging. Perfectly safe. Reminds me of mesOUDs packaging.
I got Frankincense, Amber, Jasmine and Eu De Cedrat extraits. I am honestly taken aback by the quality of these perfumes. I cannot believe quality can be this good at such a low price. Jasmine extrait gave me a total mind buzz. It was as if I am getting rained on with a fresh load of Jasmines. My wife wants more! I am getting it more.
About Frankincense!! I got ASO’s Royal Lubaan today and burned it on coal with a sheet of aluminum foil on the coal. I sprayed Frankincense extrait on my arm. And there is no difference between then smell of fresh burning luban on coal and the smell of extrait. Infact extrait is smelling more concentrated. Good stuff here.
Amber extrait! What can I say about this one! It is uncovering itself beautifully in layers. Initially it was strong but in a really good way and after 20 minutes or so it has mellowed and smelling beautiful.
Overall, the quality of his extraits is super good for the price they are offered at. These are all natural so For performance I think I cannot ask of them much.

Wow! Thank you so much. 😀

When you get deep into making blends you lose all perspective because you and the blend kind of "become one" as the blend gradually progresses with each recipe change and your own olfactory system adapts and develops different sensitivities and associations with each subsequent sniff. By the time it's done you really don't know where internal change ends and external change begins. I don't know about anybody else but it's maddening... putting it another way, the concoction is a lot like like a dream you are deeply involved in and it's hard to know what's real and what is in your imagination.

Rose Attar from Living Libations. Rosa Damascena x Santalum Album. High quality raw materials. High quality blend.
Rose and Sandalwood is about as simple a complete perfume as you can get. It has distinct top, middle, base stages, and excellent duration if the sandalwood is good and you are not looking for aromachem type performance.

Speaking of which… been enjoying this lively mitti and rose attar. Medicinal, rustic, rich sandalwood, unusual rose accord.

love this kind of natural perfume because it doesn't interfere with my ability to enjoy other fragrances. Just a beautiful mitti/rose attar from @mesOUD

Wabisabi Kouki Lavande Ambre

@Mr.P Labdanum feels like a warm hug. I picture a dusty patchouli wearing hippie walking through a lavander field on a bright sunny day.
The sweet powdery vanilla is a beautiful touch.
Dries down to a warm sweet vanilla patchouli skin scent with labdanum humming in the background.
Was Hainan oud used in this one? I get an ancient sweet dusty aspect. That could be patchouli too.

There Is a touch of hainan resinoid in there! Not enough to advertise as a note, but intended to make the dry-down more addictive to those who remain tuned in when it fades to a skin scent. 🙂 I am sure the patchouly is contributing as well as you suggest.

Old oakmoss absolute from the mid 90's. The tenacity of this aroma is beyond anything else out there. if you put a bit of the pure complete (non IFRA) oil on your skin it seems like you can continue to smell it for multiple days... it becomes almost subliminal, and will seem to vanish for a while only to reemerge, but it's effect persists to a degree. I continue to have a love-hate relationship with this stuff

Oakmoss is wild stuff.

Mysore from ASO 2.5 gm bottle
Tibetan Musk from RPP 1 gm vial

Added about 0.5 gram of Musk to the 2.5 gm Mysore bottle for maceration.
Kept the bottle in my pocket for a day.

Only 1 day has gone but the oil color has turned almost black. And the smell!! Just cannot believe how so quickly the oil smells just musky. No sandalwood at all. The smell is a little funky/skanky almost similar to smelling musk grains from the musk vial but little less shocking. Very addictive smell. But beware that this is not a smell for going into public with. I think after a few months of maceration the smell will mellow down into more wearable in public. But for now for personal enjoyment it is good.

Been experimenting with oakmoss. Just amazing stuff I'm sorry I'm repeating myself here but the amazing thing about this material is its behavior as much as its aroma. It comes and goes, first of all; so it can be extremely strong then I will lose all awareness of it even while my skin is still stained from the pigment… yet 12 hours later it will be radiating this warm forest aroma that can't be missed. And it seems to kind of pick up the aroma of the other things that I've layered with it during the day - that little pool of oak moss resin absorbs aromas of oud, florals, patchouli, etc. - so that by the end of the day it's radiating the most sophisticated, suave, masculine, deep perfume accords... balances that I have no idea how to reproduce deliberately, but are just beautiful avenues for future scent exploration and development. I have experimented with the stuff countless times in the past but my experiments layering with it this past week feels akin to being in a somewhat confined space, and suddenly all of these doors are being opened up to all of these different intriguing passageways. I have no idea if I can navigate those passageways or not - building a novel blend is one thing; matching a memory is something else. But the accords I smelled were so intriguing I can't wait to try reproducing some.

Get yourself some old school oakmoss if you are not allergic to it!

Come on man when are you going to start international orders? Can you make an exception 😁 I’m willing to pay the extra shipping costs

I'm actually pretty disappointed I had no idea it was going to be this difficult. I appreciate you mentioning it because it gives me a chance to apologize - you are someone I have a particular interest in getting some samples to because you were very encouraging to me, gave me some good tips etc..

The only shipping option within about 45 minutes is the United States Postal Service and they will not ship flammable goods overseas at all. Everybody at the post office knows me, they know about my products they've read about my business because it's a very small town.

I think until I level up my business and get some kind of shipping account and hazmat certification with FedEx, the only way to get alcohol-based perfume overseas is to falsify the shipping manifests (which would be shooting myself in the foot 100%).

What I have to do is come up with concentrate and sell that (which could be used neat or reconstituted in ethanol and matured by the user), or oil based attars (which i would love to make but present unique blending challenges). That is something that I can ship overseas with no hassles. I don't have any mature concentrate right now but I'm working on it!

(Frankincense extrait doesn't exist as a concentrate though - it is built around a tincture and would be like glue/varnish if evaporated)

That’s what I was going to suggest. Instead of 10ml perfumes you could do 3ml of pure oil. Or maintain your perfume formula and size but replace the alcohol with a neutral carrier like say FCO. This might require reformulating them so it’s understandable if you can’t do it or don’t see it as feasible in the moment, maybe later? One can hope

Again the interest is really appreciated.

My trials with diluting concentrate for alcohol based perfume in oil carriers were not successful - so that's definitely not an option.

Some of the perfume concentrates smell pretty good as attars, undiluted, but the fact is that some things don't smell good UNLESS they are diluted so it's not that simple, and i think the concentrate is not just like a more dense version of the perfume, it hits differently.

The jasmine extrait is nice at 100%, though all of the balancing was done at around 10% (and the perfume itself is ~15% concentrate).

I started working on a stock of raw materials diluted to 10% in santalol, (the goal being to do some low risk / low cost experimentation with attars in that medium, then replace the santalol with good sandalwood in the product offered for sale), but my source of santalol retired and it turns out they were offering a pretty unique thing there!

Again it’s completely understandable. If I ever decide to go to the US I’ll pass by you and pick up a few things.

I'm running a one-man show here, single parenting and "sandwiched" caring for a 90-year-old father, all of which is wonderful - I feel lucky to be able to do it - but it means that progress on my personal business and agenda feels painfully slow sometimes. However, if I am fortunate... maybe before you get here I will have grown to the point where I will have an arrangement worked out with Fedex or another international carrier.

If you guys like Tonka, these are two very different specimens but both are really nice. The one on the left is more clean sweet refined and like coumarin and new mown hay. The one on the right smells like they toasted the beans before extracting them - more complex and multilayered in some ways a little bit less "clean" and less like smelling a handful of beans. Both of these are definitely beautiful materials and I've been really happy with combinations using both of them. Sourced from perfumer supply house and Fraterworks. PSH is from Albert Vielle, Fraterworks is from MANE
