An interesting one! I was expecting this to have some skank to it from the website description, but despite containing many animalics it somehow manages to smell “cleaner than a bar of soap” (to quote GZA).
Instead, the musks and other animalics provide a soft textural pillow for the saffron, which is rightly the star of the show - dry and whistle-clean, but still warm and inviting.
This attar is concentrated and projects like crazy - only small swipes needed. My bottle will last a long time. Probably one to save for exotic climes - seems a waste to wear it here in Surrey.
As a side note, it vividly and weirdly reminds of an Indian snuff tobacco I tried many years ago - Cheetah brand - which I suppose must have contained saffron, or at least a good accord. So strange how olfactory memory works…

Iris Noir: Maroke - Ensar Oud (Second hand)
This is a lot like Iris Noir EDP but with nuances. Off the top I’m getting orange, berry, sharp alcohol fumes. In the middle I’m getting floral notes and sandalwood. The bottom I would imagine would be the Maroke (which I’m not getting yet). Beautiful fragrance as I loved the Iris Noir that would precede it. This one is “same same, but different”. It’s kind of like the spritz of the attar world. Bubbly, just like humans.

I made a musk & oud attar and was afraid that the smell from the tincture would overwhelm the materials. When in fact, they do not. The oud and musk (4%, premium quality, you don't need 25% musk), blend very well together. I'm calling it Paradise, and it should be ready in the next few months. It was costly to make, so I'll save a bottle for myself.

Wild Bangladeshi Vetiver Oil-RBO
Terrific vetiver for the hot summer, it smells like you're out grilling carrots. The rootiness of carrot, the hydrating steam coming off the grill, and the lovely wafts of the maillard reaction going on. Definitely one that needs to be brought along with you if you are out and about, after 4 to 5 hours I'm finding a need to reapply.

My experience with vetiver prior to this has always been in compositions or perfumes. This is my first true only vetiver oil I got because I fell in love with the story Ish wrote in the description of it, of how he came across it just randomly while observing cows grazing. However, I will say that it has me interested more in vetiver as a standalone and will be a space I explore more in the future.
I do concur that it makes most sense to tag this on to a purchase of something else, however Ish has a lot of interesting stuff. I asked him a month or so ago if he was going to make another 60-day soak oud down the road and he said he was sourcing the materials for that actually, so that might be something to keep an eye on in the future. I got this vetiver with his taif rose which smells great in my opinion.

Mysuru Mongolian Special
Thats the name of the Mysuru Special @AlHind Oud with mongolian musk maceration that I started 2 months ago. (25% concentration)
It smells like the raw pure musk grains from the bottle & on skin. Primal, warm animalic (like the smell that lingers on your hands when you play with a sheeps wool), earthy, inviting & addictive. The mysore smells like it was made for it, to soften the harsh musky edges, to provide this deep, rich woody & buttery profile.
The whole maceration smells more like they belong together rather than 2 seperate entities, one waiting for the other to shine.

SQ Melange
I assume this one has Oud Royale, or other similar oud from SQ with a very soft powdery rose and beautiful black tea note. I think it is very similar to EO Melange Priveé and could be the same thing, I tried MP 3 years back so I'm comparing them by memory. I'd advise our respected vendors to try adding black tea to the rose oud composition, I think it did a good job adding an interesting twist to the perfume. BTW EO Enchanted Rose perfume has a similar black tea note.

What a beautiful attar... My first impression of this attar was eye-opening in the best kind of way. Unlike any other attar in my collection. After spending more time wearing it, my love for Elysium has only grown. It is difficult really adding anything to the perfectly on-point description provided on the product page, but I will mention someone else's reference I had seen in another post to bubble gum, although we are talking artisanal bubble gum here 😋
True story, my wife is not a fan of 95% of my collection. It's like every day I can pretty much expect a complaint at some point 🤣 A couple nights ago we were getting ready for our evening walk and I put a very tiny dot on the back of my hand and dabbed to my beard. I mean like a pin-point amount of oil lol. Almost immediately she said "mmm, what is that one? That is the only oil you are allowed to wear". We were both smelling it during the entirety of our walk and for the first time that I can remember, she was actually trying to get wafts of it and mentioned it more than once.
Needless to say, this is a crowd-pleaser of an attar. Projection is great, and the lasting power of the beautiful ambery, oudy, incense dry-down is amazing. I smell traces of it going well into the next day.
Shipping was fast, the vials were well packed, and I am a big fan of these "bullet vials" as Ahmed calls them. They seal extremely well, and have a way of showcasing the oils in the way the label is placed below where the oil sits.

My own blend that I intend to begin making in larger batches: very fine red champaca absolute, mysore sandalwood, incense accord, amber accord, iris accord, musks. IT SMELLS SO GOOD.

This is one reason why the Gulf royals are smart - their uniform involves comfortable clothes all year round and in all situations. Our royals still insist on a wool suit, leather shoes and a neck tie, even in Summer! 😄
