Latimah - SQ Shammama

This reminds me of @Joe ’s Agarwood Shammama from Lupus & Vega.

Very warm, saffronic, and peppery. Has lots of notes of various herbs, spices, and roots. Has an aquatic scent to it as well. I would say this Shammama goes above L & V’s Shammama. This one is more refined, more complex, and has more ingredients. Very beautiful .
Well being more than $100 more for the same amount, I would hope so! Hehe. Also, mine was more focused on the relationship between agar and Mysore Sandalwood—with the emphasis on the agar oil. It seems like theirs has that traditional focus on the herbs in addition... It’s good that you found one you enjoy too. I hope you like it for as long as they make it!

Oof. Figured a little musk sample in some patchouli would be interesting. 0.05g in 1g patch, gave it a week and. Yeesh. It smells more animalic/barn than the sample itself. The patch is almost non-existent at this dilution. The sample must be potent enough that I just instantly go asinomic to it. Not sure what they were going for here, but I suppose next steps are 0.05g of this into another 1g of patch, and see if that lets the patch shine through. Confused by the material as I see a lot of y'all doing high grains dose in oils,so I suppose this has to be using pretty high synthetics to get to nuclear? I suppose I'll try again in a week or so with next trial.

Where is the musk from? It must have synthetics to overpower patchouli at such a low dose.

That's my understanding as well. Muscone or something seems likely, but I'll not accuse. Non site vendor. Was a sample, so I havnt looked up the claims yet. I'll have to compare with some of my synthetic musks and see if anything rings a bell, tho I don't have muscone. Maybe my nose is just sensitive/unfamiliar to it so it's a shock

Edit: hmm muscone doesn't seem to explain it, as that shouldn't be as animalic. My only naturals are castoreum and hyraceum to compare. I have other more animal synthetics, can compare with skatole or indole or whatever. Seems castoreum adjacent (which has turned quite lovely in a few months in eth, but not yet in patch). Hyraceum is an odd duck, improved but a long ways to go

Purple Attar by Elkhaldi

Recommend to consider getting some while you can still get this… velvet purple. Strong projection… regal. A little goes a long way.
All oos! But yea orris, amber, oud purple blends, so hot right now, lots of variations recently! Olive leaf is super interesting, which one did you go for?

AlKhudir Oud - SQ Blend

A custom-made SQ blend featuring SQ Oud, SQ Rose, Henry Jacques, and Musk.

The rose hits first and is very floral, deep, and bright. Then comes the oud which is kind of drowned out by the rose and the HJ. Then comes the musk which is powerful and very animalic. Got this by watching one of their Snapchats and messaging them. Blend connoisseurs would love this.

Latimah - Johar
A swipe before going to sleep with three kinds of Musks, Malay Johor oud and some ambergris I believe, it really stacks up. Coffee grounds, dark chocolate, deep forest woods, lacquer, smoke and permanent marker, has a chalky texture to me in the best way. With time it evolves into deep jungle with freshness of eucalyptus and mint notes.

Today is my liberty shamama - claimed just CO2 sandal and CO2 oud - which... im confused by the naming, and smelled like there were other things going on. I'd imagine a mistake on their part in labelling as it smelled very shamamma forward with other things involved.

In any case, as I've mentioned before I've added other things along the way, since the original was OK but lacking.

more (non co2) S. Album, more oud (non co2), bit of patch/castoreum tincture, and other bits and bobs to help. It evolves over time, bit of a Theseus' ship at this point. Still quite lovely if you like shamamas. herballly and spicy melange. The castoreum showing a bit of raspberry note that was not present when tincture started. Wish I had kept a bit more thorough notes on this one over time, but such is the ephemeral nature of it. Still reads as a shamama, just with some real nice other notes in the background. For a budget blend, punches well above its pricepoint for depth and just very nice melding of materials. If you're just starting out with blending, i can say starting with a shamama as a base is a great way to cheat a bit

Scent Talks - Elixir de Tabac (Oud edition) [sample]

The scent welcomes you with a warm and healthy waft of cinnamon, then comes the creamy powderiness of the Madagascan Vanilla. These 2 ingredients alone always put me in a festive mood. With the vanilla providing a more cooling sensation. This blend also contains Mysore SW, Taif rose, Tobacco in the heart, and black tea. The base of various ouds carry the blend even further with Cambodi, Ceylani, and Hindi ouds, and musk all anchoring the ingredients. Another outstanding blend from Scent Talks!
