A musk maceration I did a year ago and forgot about (thank god)
New Caledonian sandalwood and Siberian musk.
If I ever macerate musk in any other sandalwood then send a hitman after me.
This is by far the best sandalwood I’ve used for musk, it give you exactly the scent of musk, nothing on top of it except for a faint spicy dry wood. Nothing like mysore’s heavy cloud. You get the almost electric top notes of Siberian musk, like you’re smelling a pod from up close, the hair, the leather, the floral powdery musk, a little sweetness underneath, a tiny bit of ghee note in the drydown. Gorgeous.
I am happy to hear someone trying a different type of sandalwood in macerations like this. I definitely feel like the pacific sandalwoods and especially spicatum are a better match for musk than S. album but I have never tested it out since i don't dabble in musk.

ghee note in siberian sounds amazing (maybe due to the sandalwood more than the musk), I need to try this from you! If you're fine with me asking, what % did you macerate it at?

For the average user santalum album might be better, it masks some of the animalic qualities, softens and dampens the edges of musk, and gives a more familiar profile. But for musk lovers like myself spicatum and Santalum austrocaledonicum are excellent.

Its probably from the sandalwood, its got a golden buttery scent, barely noticable, not at all like indian sandalwood. This maceration was 10% if i remember correctly, the label is worn off by now. Im sure that it will smell great even as low as 5% or 6%.

Fwakher's SQ Fort of Royal Highness.

Finally a home run. This is equally vintage and ancient in scent profile, I know I will turn heads in the subway, but it just does it all in great proportion. Herbal, mentholic, floral, ambery, powdery... is it cloves that I smell? It's difficult for me to pick up individual notes but I want to guess that cloves, patchouli, and camphor with some rose and maybe even carnation are creating one heck of an accord. Apothecary, headshop, old man, whatever the association might be, this smells like what all the European oriental fragrances want to smell like but are too afraid to, and it smells like vintage perfumery before transparency, sheerness, and overdoses of certain scratchy aromachems became the norm of modern tastes. Lots of hyperbole in this paragraph but that's because I'm smitten!

Bourhan Oud - Misk Nadirat Nawwara

I don’t usually like sweet misks but this one was too good to pass up on.

It’s a blend of the house Misk with HJ Kavianca. It’s sweet, milky, and floral. It smells of Lilly of the valley, Rose, Jasmine, berries, and cream. Absolutely delightful.

Bourhan Oud - Shaheen

Contains:
- Grey whale ambergris
- Malaysian Terengganu Oud
- Kalimantan Oud
- Iriani Oud
- Jebreen oil (Henry Jacques Rarities)
- Henry Jacques Timor
- Saud Perfume oil

This is really a treat of an oil. It has that unmistakable Bourhan DNA. It starts with the top notes of the subtle Henry Jacques perfumes in there. During this, I also get wafts of ambergris animalics. Then perfume oil used in the “Saud” perfume. Then the beauty of the oud begins to show. With hints of dark berries from the Terengganu, the crisp herbiness of the Iriani, and the pancake maple syrup profile of the Kalimantan. I wouldn’t mind buying each of these on their own. But they’re still beautiful together and offer a complex, and deep olfactory experience.

Bourhan Oud - Kehailan

Kehailan is an extraordinary mélange of rare Trat, Brunei, Ceylani and Iriani ouds, enriched with Royal Ambergris and luxurious oils from Henry Jacques and Amouage. Dark, muddy and deeply earthy oud collides with the brighter French oils to reveal notes of aged sherry, roasted nuts and fine liquor, before unfolding into an intoxicating trail of sweet, cognac-soaked cherries. 🍒. Absolutely beautiful and amazing!

Bourhan Oud - Mirage

This blend contains HJ 1995, Old Cambodi 2016, Kalimantan Oud, and the “General” blend.

It opens with the deep resinous woods of the Cambodi and the high-toned elegance of 1995. The syrupy green buttery character of the Kalimantan comes in to play. Whilst the General blend ties it all together creating a complex profile from the ambergris. As the wear moves on, the 1995 becomes more pronounced, which is typical of HJ. Simply beautiful.
