I am testing several Oudique oils today. Here's some of my impressions: (part 2)

Pattani

This is named after a province in Thailand. Like any good Thai oud, it opens sweet with dark prunes and raisins, figs. I get honey notes from it, too. If you're not into the woods, then this might be the right one for you. It's light, fruity, refreshing. It's lightfooted and etheral.
7.5/10

Khmer Tiger

So this is what tigerwood distilled smells like. I see its similarities to agarwood for sure, they both share that medicinal note. Agarwood comes from several species in the Aquilaria genus. There are 21 species in the genus, but only some of them, like my favorite, Carnassa, get infected by a fungus/mold that produces the resin, agarwood, to protect itself. Tigerwood has a different resin formation, and it's better for making carved jewelry or timber. I'm getting some powder of the tigerwood to use as incense soon. Can't wait. Anyway, the genus for most tigerwoods is called, Astronium, which grows in South America as opposed to Asia. Its use in perfumery is almost non-existent. The oil has warm tones, it's resinous, and woody. It's amyris and rosewood (which is unfortunately endangered). Noted, tigerwood is striped but NOT resinous like agarwood.

Their description for Khmer Tiger says it's an agarwood from the tigerwood tree. Such a description is false. I think they mean it's an oud from tigerwood, and it's fantastic. I get a strong fruit and wood note at first. I love it.
9/10

Borneo Kita

This is another hit. It's made, according to their description, from borneo agarwood. It has vanilla notes, and is creamy, but it's NOT foody. I would not call this a gourmand. More balsamic, sharp. It's medicinal, with a slight floral accent. I also get their listed cardamom and coffee. Nicely done, nature.
8.5/10

I think that's it for now; I still have quite a few to review as they included some attars in their sampler, not just the oud oils. I'll get to the rest tomorrow unless the sale is over tonight, then I'll push through.

Cambodian Pursat Oud oil - Muzaffar Atarji

Can’t believe it took me this long to review on my favorite oils. It ticks all the boxes for me. Scent, sillage, projection, longevity…etc

Cambodian Pursuit Oud is a dark and clear brown oil that exudes a deep, resinous sweetness layered with rich, dark woods and subtle hints of dried fruit, creating an alluring and enveloping aroma. Its profile is smooth and slightly balsamic, with an earthy undertone that lingers elegantly, making it both invigorating and mysterious.

It’s an easy to wear Oud that always hits the right spots and I highly recommend keeping it in the main stock of ouds.

I give it a 10/10

Any animal in it?

Vietnami Muattag - Muzaffar Atarji

It’s a dark brown Oud that’s not dissimilar in profile to a Vietnami from Ensar Oud. It’s very potent with scents of cream, wood and nuts. But without the varnish anti-septic note. A lot less goes a long way and over applying could make a peanut wake. I like that it’s different in how the nuttiness balances everything out and is special in its own way. However, it isn’t one of my favorites that I will turn to for Oud therapy.

I give it a 7/10

Burmese Muattag - Muzaffar Atarji

As you can see, I’ve veered off in a different direction than reviewing Cambodian ones in favor of new regional variations.

The only Burmese I tried previously was from Sokkat AlTeeb, so I’m glad I’m trying something new. This Burmese is different than Sokkat AlTeeb”s in that this one is more on the sweet and nutty side.

It’s a dark brown very viscous and easily spreadable oud and has a thinner consistency than other oils - which I like. I’m also getting subtle spices - which is some thing not present in the Burmese from Sokkat AlTeeb.

I give this one an 8/10

Indian Muattag - Surrati

This is a dark red Oud. The notes presented are woody, sweet, animalic, and slightly fumey. But the aging took the sharpness off and given it a pleasant barn scent. Silage and projection is strong even with a tiny amount. I especially like the bottle and packaging it was presented in.

I give this a 8.5/10

Oud Amiral Malaki - Amiral AlTeeb

This amazing Oud is a blend of Hindi, Cambodian, and Trat oils. It has sweet, woody, and obvious floral notes - which adds warmth and comfort. It’s a different Oud that’s stands tall on its own. Similar to an attar, but it isn’t.

This is a well-balanced blend all around.

I give it a 10/10

Sweet Trat Oud oil - Naqwat AlBakhoor

This is a luxurious oil from Trat in Thailand which as the name suggests - is sweet. It is a dark reddish brown oil. It has notes of caramel and honey. It’s a warm scent that brings comfort and has scents of sophistication and is not heavy on the spiciness. It’s an easy to wear Oud.

I give it an 8.5/10

Sounds like a hug near a fireplace.

Aged Burmese (Muattag) - AlKhudair

This is a rich, complex fragrant profile with deep woody, honeyed, and slightly fumey notes. The oil is a dark amber to nearly black color and possesses an incredibly potent, long-lasting scent that feels warm and cozy. I’m really happy with this buy from AlKhudair - who I often overlook.

I would say this is my favorite Burmese profile I’ve had so far.

I give this a 10/10

You gotta try Burmi 79 from Sulaym….

Indian Assami Oud oil - AlMokhlif Oud

This oil has a dark brown reddish color. It’s full bodied. It has a deep, complex scent that opens with slight barnyard and medicinal notes. Slowly, layers of sweet honey, dried fruits, and subtle floral notes reveal themselves.

The scent profile has animalic qualities and a warm sweetness with hints of leather and spices. Silage and projection are strong. I really like this Oud and it does have a unique quality about it from the Assam region exhibiting fruity notes and sharper profile overall.

I give it a 10/10

Fragrant Southern Thai Oud oil - AlKhattaf Oud

This is a clear reddish brown colored Oud that’s medium bodied. This Oud comes from (what I suspect) are cultivated trees that are 30-40 years old from the Narathiwat region (Southern Thailand) bordering Malaysia.

It’s distinctively sweet, has that slight varnishy and creamy opening, and with less of the harsh barnyard found in other regional ouds.

It develops into a smooth profile with tropical fruit notes, subtle spice, and a clean finish that makes it more approachable than many other oud varieties. And I love it!

I give this a 10/10

First Batch Pure Kalamentan Pontianak Oud Oil - Trade Oud

This is clear reddish brown medium bodied Oud. It starts out medicinal and light - barely fragrant. Then it gets quite intense and develops that cola scent I keep reading about. It’s definitely more complex. It doesn’t have a woody or nutty scent. It has a BBQ sauce and ammonia profile about it. I think some folks might enjoy it. But it’s not my cup of tea.

I give it a 4/10

Assure you brother
Pontianak oud is more than this
All is about wood grade and distillation technique
Pontianak is one of the legend oils

For me, I love Koh Kong and Pursat. Even Pursat from the Atarji family one was better than the other and more clear. So you’re probably right. It’s to do with wood grade and distillation technique.

For example : Muzaffar Atarji’s Pursat was better than his son Mishaal Atarji’s Pursat.

Pontianak is definitely a new profile for me.

Khazanah Oud - Fuse Kuala Lumpur (Sample)

This is deep dark brown full bodied Oud. I would call this Oud as dry (similar to wine). There’s no sweetness. It’s very woody and has a mineral feel to it. As it gets warm on the forearm the scent develops into a better a profile. I want to call this profile blunt which is juxtaposition against sharp.

It has a lot of Cambodian and a lot of Burmese characteristics to it and I enjoy that a lot.

I give it a 8.5/10
