@EJayB — how do you find the experience to differ with this wood (or any other for that matter) using charcoal instead of sub? Curious, because I haven’t been as successful using charcoal— I feel like I miss out on a lot of different notes and nuance.

I think the key is using the charcoal the right way. For example, once it is glowing and completely covered with a white burnt surface you can bury it under a layer of fine ash to control temperature. Open a small hold down to the ember and place a mica sheet over the hole. Presto you have a little oven. You can control the temperature by the thickness of the ash or the size of the hole.

You can also placed a coal in the center of a burner and then place wood chips or resins next to but not actually on top of the coal.

Mysterious vintage wood chips from kungyokudo that came second hand. Deceiving looks. Punchy and woody that explode and fill the whole room thickly. Good smell from low to high.

I think it might be indonesian
