An Najwa’s Al Bayt Al Haram (bakhoor) on the subitism: Lovely spicy and musky rose opening with some subdued camphoraceous and balsamic/incensy/oudy nuances. I wasn’t paying any attention initially so not sure if I detected things properly. In the air, its saffron-laced musk, rose and woody qualities has occasional similarities with Dhikrayat bakhoor (2019, Al Shareef Oudh). Once the top subsides, I get soft, creamy, and woody sandalwood and cedar notes.

KyaraZen - Laos Vietnam Soil Agarwood 2 Hour coils - I purchased these in early April of 2024, they weren't around for all that long, but man what a deal they were, I picked up 2 boxes, each for I think 59 USD which for 50 grams of this region and type of agarwood isn't too shabby! Apparently these were buried pieces of Laos and Vietnam woods, which were buried on purpose and then taken out, dried and milled into these coils.

They have an iconic chocolate milk sort of aroma to them even unlit. While burning you get the most pungent blast oudyness, the smoke sticking to your clothes with an matched tenacity. In fact that's what shocked me today, I broke off a 10 minute piece perhaps, and at the end, it was as if I had fumigated my room with woods and charcoal! It was actually too strong even for me. They don't really fall into the soil agarwood profile I've come to expect, but utility wise a brilliant product. I don't know whether to put this into the Laos camp or Vietnam in terms of scent, nor do I know the composition percentages, but I was really happy with these being a new innovation in "creating" soil agarwood, to whatever degree it might have been successful, part of me is very happy with tinkerings which might promise sustainability. While I'd need to burn more before I can compare them, they seem similar to one of my favorite sticks of all time, Aroma Sublime's Gold Seal Premium Aged Agarwood.

Dude! I'm stunned I didn't see those on the website! What, were they available for all of a day or something? I'm forever on the KZ website and totally missed those. Wonderful score.

Seijudo Kyara Horen
Man i wish i could get attar or perfume with its scent ;;;;;;
@iori - do you have an instagram? There's this one Instagram account that posts clips of the most outrageous pieces of wood - I keep thinking it has to be you 😂

That's the one - I could tell just from the style of the videography/photography. Beautiful. 🙂

YM shu ju kyara

Slightly sweet, a touch floral. Little bit bitter.

Not obviously a kyara profile to my nose so wouldn’t necessarily recommend it based on the price. Reminds me of elements of the firebird range, minus all the adjuct aromas and additives.

Enju and gukujo kyara are much better imo. Even shiragaku resonates more and is more kyara-esque for a fraction of the price.

Kunmeido Tokusen Kyara Tenpyo,
this blend really hits the spot for me,
then lit some Shoyeido Nan-kun,
another lovely blend, then some Shoyeido Myo-ho silk box, very sharp up close, I have to back it up a bit to enjoy it, then finally some Shunkohdo Kyara Houzan, another
magnificent blend.

By now my room is smelling very good😊

Aside from Hui’an - RPP, I don’t own any high grade incense sticks like you folks post, I should invest in some, however my money goes towards wood, as I’m addicted to the aroma of heated Agarwood & Sandalwood.
At the moment, most of the incense I light is a functional product, I use it to fragrance the house more so than listening to it.

I really love these sticks from Baieido, Tobiume is my favourite & I use them frequently. A lovely camphor & sweet spiciness up top, mostly cinnamon to my nose. As the scent progresses there’s a touch of dry fruits, plum & cacao. The base is Sandalwood & a healthy dose of Indonesian Agarwood. The Agarwood is dark, resinous, musky. Very nice for a budget stick, it leaves the house smelling beautiful.

What website do you guys generally use to purchase your Japanese incense?

I know this is a pretty broad question, but what high grade sticks would you recommend to me? Any particular stick that you believe is a must have?
