@F4R1d0uX: Brother no problem at all, and I don't need reference. Your words are enough. But you know POLEMICS without concrete and solid reference is considered weak.
Thanks a lot, my respected brother. Much appreciated. Otherwise, I was scared after posting the post.
I quite agree with some points and have already mentioned them. You probably skipped those. I did we are as flawed as the vendors. Free samples ? A popular man once said, there are no free lunches in the world. No matter how diplomatocally we try to handle the situation. Truth will always come out about reviewers and/or vendors. That sort of notion holds true for guys like Jeremy Fragrance. Sadly, we are all a bunch of hardcore enthusiasts and only buy whay we like. Certaim vendor, this vendor, that vendor is also on no concern here. You want to know about an artist s real talent go to SOTD page. Start from page no.1 on Ouddict truth shall be revealed in its purest form my dear wise friend. So, as far as pricing goes, I chat with all vendors via email/phone/message. I appreciate everyone and talk in detail about how the trade goes. I have maintained an extreme level of professional conduct and never shared secret convos. I love what they do. I have also taken stand for vendors when Mr Goodies were pouncing on them. Ita just that public memory is short. And lets not forget I stand for both. I never shame. I criticise. Sometimes we all can get carried away and thats forgivable. What is not forgivable is when someone asks questions it must be answered with reason. Not by might of language or show of sympathy. Cos without questioning and such enlightening debates we would go back to being Neanderthals. You will never see me opening topics like - lets make Oud cheap again and lets discuss Oud culture sort. Oud is not luxury, it is a necessity now. And there is no love lost for anyone. As for discussion, @F4R1d0uX did offer us interesting insight. Vendors had already given their insights. We can all read that. No one needs to superemphasise that. But, my point is, when it comes to making Oils, such enthusiasm is not seen. Anyways, we have had an information overdose. And, the Oleoresin mystery was solved very nicely by @F4R1d0uX and @ASO. So it was fun. What was not fun was the intentional deviation from the discourse. If the whole ethos of Ouddict's creation was to create a healthy atmosphere and stay away from embarrassing BN like situation, then let's stay on course. If every smart discussion has to be aimed at that vendor, this vendor its NO more enjoyable. It even spoils the name of talented guys like ASO and the likes while the butthurts wash their hands in the running water.🙁 What else can express the state of mind better than this emoji! Nothing.
Oleoresin. Auxiliary/ Accessory notes. Oleorisin & Oil. Price & Pricing. Well, all are to be discussed, and they have been discussed. Majority came up with solid arguments. But 'All's well that ends well'. And 'end' is yet awaited.
One thing for sure: when two clashing viewpoints emerge about a single reality; one is definitely faulty. Both cannot be correct. If frame of reference is to be included, then both are 'half truths' that is rather damaging than an incorrect view-point. It doesn't mean whose view is wrong is to be punished. One's endeavour to see the truth and say true is to be valued. So do I respect all participants. In Islamic Jurisprudence, if two 'faqeeh= jurits' have two opposite views, both are respected and honoured, but one whose decree is logical is to be followed. I simply apply this universally acknowledged parameter of Islamic Jurisprudence whenever I face some perplexing opposite views about Oud here. All are respected, but one is to be followed. Moreover, a folk lore I was narrated that goes so at the end: If some one has positive views about all is either a skin saver or is having poor judgement.
Oleoresin and Auxiliary notes have been defined in a best possible way by respected Jawed. Had respected Shabby expressed diametrically opposite viewpoint than that of Jawed? I don't think so. What I get from the posts is no more than the difference in the definition of the terms under discussion.
Resin & Oud: It is yet a riddle. @F4R1d0uX: My dear and respected most brother, you posted some snap-shots to prove that it is impossible. I do agree with you. But if I would like not to agree, it will be rather appropriate. Reason? I don't know who that master is, if he is. Why master under cover? Suppose, I am in favour of Mr. Ensar's statement, I would have left those snap-shots unread as 'invisible masters' in reality don't inspire. PLEASE NEVER MIND. I KNOW YOU HAVE AN AMPLE HEART. I JUST PIN POINTED WHAT I FELT. Your sincerity, purity and gentility and JOVIALITY is ideal. But here, the point under discussion was too too sensitive. So I didn't find myself making views on some unknown and unseen masters. Please never mind.
Distillation & Price & Pricing: I have been saying since the first day of my joining this Home-like Forum, OUD IS A LUXURY, NOT A NECESSITY. So price cannot be questioned. BUT THERE IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING: trying to befool buyers and using tactics to emotionally black-mail and creating UNNECESSARY HYPE is to be questioned. I am against high prices, but I know it is I who am responsible for all this. I remember a couple of years before, The Saudi government initiated a boycott-campaign against the vendors selling tomatoes at an abnormal price. Within a week, those big guns turned to be dwarfs. Anyway, it is a digression. My point is why that much hype.
So far as distillation goes, it is obvious. We are no chickens at all. I am sure, there are such vendors who don't claim they do so. Don't they deserve doff off. Yes, they do. I know there are vendors who are partially distillers. And I am sure there are certain vendors who really distill on their own. And there are definitely such vendors who don't distill, but they say so. BUT FOR ME THE MOST INTERESTING SPECIES IS THOSE WHO CAN'T DISTILL, BUT THEY CLAIM SO. And last, there are who really distill on their own, and they say so. AND THERE ARE WHO REALLY DISTILL BUT THEY MUST STOP DISTILLING, FOR GOD'S SAKE!
@Nikhil S: I am a great admirer of your flare. Just pay heed to my view, I beseech, about price. Who are responsible? Marketing: Godamm it. You know, now I feel Oud is being sold like a 'lather cream' that is actually for men, but in advertisement, that is launched by Kim Kardasian. And Me poor, even with beard, run for that. Poor me. Again, how many of us are here to be daring enough to decide on solid grounds. I don't blame vendors, I blame my own poor coward and skin-saving self.
Zak brother's oils, IO's Oils (brothers Faheem and Faizal),: These two are more than visible. Again digression: I suggested brother Faheem to raise prices of his offerings, and he, as usual, with an innocent smile just said: IT IS ENOUGH.! I am sure, brother Zakir is not earning that much. Though Faheem's is😛😛😛! I must quote a saying that is much popular in our village: The man murdered is equally responsible for his murder, as why he came within the range of the murderer. Dear Nikhil, if we are murdered, we are responsible. Last, I have been reading about BAIT SAMPLING. (It doesn't include Tokens of Love). If sampling for wangling reviews is being made, who are responsible. Definitely, I am. I mean the wearers. I don't know who gets samples, but when it is highlighted, it shows YES IT EXISTS. Oud Terrorism is getting hold day by day. It is to be shunned.
To conclude, my respected most @Ouddict posted a picture of some Oud, and a statement of that very vendor about barn note. Of course, that shows there is some problem. That can be a mistake, or an error, or a trickery, or a try to create difference, etc. God knows better. But that picture and that statement show some sort of gap. Oils speak. What about this picture and statement? They do speak as well. There is a fault line somewhere, and that somewhere is not hidden. But it doesn't mean that that very vendor's oils are not good. His oils are beyond and beyond, more than excellent. But I have stopped buying because I have found 'a fault line' there. Yet I love his oils. And I appreciate his unique efforts. My not buying won't damage any vendor. I am sure. But I am not a skin saver. Whatever is to be decided, that needs hell dynamic flare.
The only thing that is highly interesting is when vendors and certain experts (not kidding, nor sarcasm) share views, even getting bitter, certain persons come up with such roles that is played by 'EXTRAS' in Bollywood movies. In Urdu there is a proverb: 'Tou koun, maen khaah-makhaah- Who are you , Mr,? Oh, I'm, hmm, umm, Intruder'. Again, not vendors, but wearers are responsible.
Peace and Love to all. This is the beauty of this Forum that dear Nikhil and I can post any thing, bitter or sweet. Who dare to do so on the other Forum😉😉😉? We would have been History.
PS: By the way I learn this expression from the other Forum: Someone is History. And by the way, history repeats, and history avenges.
May God bless us all.
Great, great. Dear and respected peter4ptv, this is the best commentary on Shakespearean Tragedies, or we can say Shakespeare's Tragedies. This is the only book that has discovered the metaphysical dimensions in Shakespeare/ Shakespeare's tragedies. This is just like true and truly Oud Hind. The rest are Chinese and Meruke and Keyn😉!I learned from the last few days was about Martin Lings, never heard before that name but I found out that he was very interesting person actually I start reading one of his books about Shakespeare
Great question. Would be nice to get answer from more experienced hands on members in the trade or close to those in trade. Best yet would be nice to cross reference answer from many sources. Here is to more money dedicated to independent research and review. Agarwood producing countries would be smart to allocate massive sums of money to academics and producers to run experiments and repor back. Knowledge is power and in turn can drive their sales and massively improve the lives of its citizens.IO bottles are very nice indeed
Okay.... I have some oud chips that have very hard and brittle resin. Like glass. Not very aromatic either.
Then.... I have other oud chips with noticeably medium to semi-hard resin, not brittle, and they are more aromatic.
Could it be that the hard brittle resin is the result of the chip being very old, and that the oil in the resin has dried-out? Then would oudh oil distilled from these chips be mediocre even if they were sinking grade? If this is the case, then an ideal oudh oil would be from highly resinated chips that are not that old, with juicy resin🙂
I recently received some very heavily resinated Malaysian chips from a recently felled large tree. I was so excited to try it😀, but the aroma was very weak😱. It must have been a sub-species. So another conclusion I have is thatexcellent oil must come from wood with an excellent aroma.

Smelt the truth in the oil ?

Thus comes from who has few time to talk because distilling all time ...
Now okay one has discovered super technics to transform resin in oil.
He said resin with oil removed = almost not smell, we have sellers and followers saying : thank you sidi I closed my eyes and resin made me close to pass away ...
Now what to do with this ? My teacher is a lyier ? If you think I advise all blind followers to think twice because you may have praised his oils under different labels.
Peace ...
Very good point raised by my friend. Hence understanding one thing is very important. No one is above Oud. Man is flawed. Just like us mortal consumers even vendors can make make mistakes. Even with so much of experience. Hence power and word should NEVER be absolute. One must learn to question and reason and not fear any backlash from the followers/associates/dependents. If this issue was raised at the time of discovery it would have helped so many people. So many people. I always be respectful be assertive and never submit your brains in emotions. Think and provide logic. But, as my dear friend clearly pointed such discourses have been carried out a million times yes we see our community being torn apart by same heated arguments and accusations. And it is an understandable situation. Some people see this as work of god and blah blah blah and some simply cosider it business. Either way if it suits the public, so be it. Govt of the people, by the people, for the people. And then Lincoln gets shot. RipThank you for taking your time and effort. But this was really not necessary.
This is a fact and all real distillers know it. But the discussions like theese are never about right or wrong. People discuss just to discuss and argument. So even if you prove it, they won't stop. I've seen this in all discussions before.
Brother if people even didn't give in when someone got freaking metal(!!!!!) In his oud. But they found an explanation for that too.. vietnam war bullets etc hahahaha.
I think you get what I mean.
Anyhow I thank all serious people who are making their best and that are teaching ouddicts all over the world like myself
Totally second that. Very objective contribution full of authentic and believable personal experiences. Super job. I love what he writes along with the poetic writing of Rai Sahab and the extremely detailed pickup of brother Ammar, the exceptional writing of brother Pearl and the logic of brother Farid. The zealous posts of brother Abas. The superb reviews and experiences of brothers Kesiro and Kooolaid. Its a Utopian thought. But if we leave our associations from now and really objectify our stance on Oud we have such a powerful community of distinguished noses. Every disagreement can be combated with decorum. Logical fighting will help us a whole and provide new spheres of experiences. Master Taha, Md. Taftazani, Jawed bhai, Ensar Bhai coming together and reasoning it out will be like watching Two Legendary singers in a jam session. We can be a solid example for the general perfume market. If the Ego is lost, infinite becomes finite. A very wise man @Rai Munir sahab has given very sensible thoughts about such situations. And even he sometimes does his diplomatic best to preserve peace. Come on gentlemen, lets end this war of words. Start talking to each other and please bring the lost love in the community. It is Utopian, yet it is an achievable Shangri La. I swear it will be the most awesome thing to have you guys flex your muscles on the same stage. We are there to support you till our love for Oud is alive. I say that from the bottom of my heart.@Rasoul Salehi Welcome to ouddict!
The thing I like the most is your honesty and your objectivity in your oils/woods reviewskeep it that way !
Dearest Nikhil, I really want both Forums happy and loving. This is my ardent desire. Even in the presence of differences, it is possible. Just imagine, what would be our Oud island if it happens! I have not that much positive views about Chinese oud😛, while you like China SayangAnd even he sometimes does his diplomatic best to preserve peace.
😱
😵. Difference! But it is what is beauty. Stay blessed.Ahahaha superb. These forums would be dull without your wit and philosophy dear Rai sir. There is something in Sayang that I adore. Usually Chinese oils get oxidised very quickly. They can turn from Magnificent Wood to floral minty nothingnes. It happened with my Hainan sample 🙂. But my Sayang is in a recovery vial and everytime I apply from it I am hit by an intense fat of Oud wave it slaps my face and puts me in a meditative phase with its pulsating Burmese Incense oscillations. It is an oil capable of Psychoactive inducement. Everytime I apply it puts a spell on me. Hainan is now a flat minty vaporour floral tone. So yes thats one trait with chinese that keeps me away from spending the asked. I have still not purchased the oil which I reserved long ago. Such is my financial state lol. But, an oxidised IO FHS is the closest you are getting to Green Kyara Oil for a superb price. And this is the reason why aging does magical things to Indian Oud. Classical Indian Oud can survive open caps for months. That fecal barny tone dissappears after 2 or 3 years and what you re left with is nothing but chocolaty bliss. If you will keep something like Mr Barn or Assama Garjana locked for 5 years they will turn Kalakassi good. Lol. Since I cannot afford to do such experiements. I refrain from commenting.Dearest Nikhil, I really want both Forums happy and loving. This is my ardent desire. Even in the presence of differences, it is possible. Bwahaha. I totally am with on Johnson. And I have many a times reflected thoughts on lifeless gyrinops and swamp wood merokes. Please dont hate me. I enjoy wearing them as well. But I swear on God, that pure Bengali or Hindi when it speaks it totally creams me out. I feel like raising my hands to the skies and thank almighty for giving me Agallocha and those who know what to do with it. China Sayang has that IndoBurmese tone. Artisanal Hindis esp Organics are nice easy to wear, suave etc but overcurated. Thats my taste and perception. To others they may mean the world. And that doesnt bother me at all. Infact it proves why Oud's regional signatures became a truth and are so popular these days. Because they are cool and a different style and smell.I am sure you are choosy. Not that easy guy to say 'all is well, all is well'. I have got your view. I will have China Sayang if it is different from Chinese oils-Jonson Baby oils. Yeah, FHS is quite refreshing.
By the way, I am a hell lover of Johnson oils.😉

Brother Nadeem. Even if you dont believe it I really feel the pain of those who have been cheated in the name of Oud. I am really not in a position to give a rational opinion as I belong to post BN Oud Era. I am also a latecomer to these amazing forums. I have no idea about what was going on at basenotes either or these forums. I learnt all that in my last involvement which I now regret. Many people have made some excellent points on this thread. I have read @Nikhil S posts and am in wholehearted agreement with 99% of his sentiments - I only wish that you would be able to post these on Gaharu as there are many who would benefit from them over there.
There is a clear reason why there is an issue between the forums. There IS an issue and there ISN'T an issue. Two Oud forums can coexist on friendly terms and remember that there is a large overlap between memberships on both. The problem lies with one vendor trying to dominate and maintain a monopoly through unfair means. This vendor was invited on to Ouddict many times last year and was favoured to the extent that Ouddict management banned one of our founding members to please this vendor, but very cynically he instead chose to spread malicious rumours and attacks through private messaging that came to light a couple of months later.
Earlier @Shabby asked me about the difference between Ouddict and Gaharu and I will spell it out clearly very soon. I personally wish that there could be mutual respect and a friendly atmosphere, but I have come to learn that there are certain types of characters in life who will never want peace as they cannot operate that way.
One thing I want everyone to ask is, you know who owns and controls Ouddict. Why can Gaharu not be clear about their ownership. Who owns it? Who controls it? Why were vendors apart from one vendor, not involved in Gaharu until last September a month after Ouddict was founded?
