@Olefaktory, Cultivated Kynam, 2022.

Olefaktory’s cultivated kynam oil possesses a crystalline clarity that I find absent in most cultivated kynam oils. The profile is well composed and articulately structured. A sweet opening that gives way to citrus and herbal nuances.

I just set up an Instagram account in part so I can check on olefaktory! That was a nice CK for sure and a great example of this one particular profile I've seen a few times - if I recall layers of cassie / wintergreen / marzipan / violet flower in the top note. Can't recall what the dry down was like... I have to find myself I have a few drops somewhere.

My nose may not be trained enough or I may not be applying correctly. I do not rub the oil though. I just swipe the dabber on my neck and leave it like that. No projection whatsoever and in the dry down I smell sharp notes of furniture polish. Is that your observation too?
Interesting...I do get projection, although it's more of a personal scent bubble. After studying this oud for some time, I can say that it has an unique profile for a Hindi oud. I do get a dark-resinous and slightly sweet profile. I didn't get that particular note you are referring to. There is an interesting spicy note in this oud that is similar to the smell of "bay leaf".

do you see same facet of royal kinam V2 ?
Yea there is lots similarities however imo its not same oil, also my brother with same opinion at least for now.
Also the texture of oil when i was taking from vial the Fushigi is sticky unlike the RK2.0
Regardless i love the oil its so pretty, i'll be doing more tests in next days/weeks in case i'm missing something.

Habzoud - Al Hareer + Nangarhar rose oil
Since I read that Hindi + rose is a golden combo, and I couldn't tolerate the very barnyard-y Hindi sample I have, I decided to give Al Hareer a try. It's a little too 'cheesy' for me just pure (the slightest whiff of barn ticks me off, I'm working on it) so I decided to combine it with Habz awesome rose oil. I still get that barn every now and then, but when I don't, I do think this combo is really nice. The two scents compliment each other.

I'm a little perplexed and upset as I have a nice amount of MesOud's Golden Triangle which for months now I have enjoyed very much but used sparingly. It's been a while as I've been on a Habzoud trip and strictly using as much as he has to offer cause it's that damn good but it is very different from Golden Triangle and I think I prefer the darker, danker and yet much cleaner oudier Oud's. So I put on Golden Triangle last night for a change and I immediately regretted it. It was too much. Insane projection and very all up in my face. I could still smell it the next morning. I don't know what happened because I used to love it but I think it'll be a while before I pick it up again.😢

Mesoud Burmese crassna oil i picked up back when he first arrived here. I felt this one had that classic fermented aged Middle Eastern oud vibe but not as heavy as some others and seemed like a good compromise between unfermented Thai crassnas (which often set my teeth on edge but also bring their own beautiful notes) and stuff fermented so hard that it is difficult to enjoy except in specific circumstances. it seems like fermented crassness never have that sour buggy pungency, and that is true for this oil. Seems like a nicely balanced crassna profile, nothing surprising… Dried fruits, a hint of tobacco, freshly sawed pine, a bit of soapiness, a tart high note rising above. I don't wear fermented oils very often but it's nice having them in the collection.

I've been going thru my collection of Hindi's and revisiting old favorites, for example from EO ~ Oud Hud, I found HUD curiously to have changed similar to other Hindi's that initially had barn and CHEESE. I've noticed that after 3-5 years that my barns become more perfume-y and condensed.

I noticed this as well with JK's Hindi Gangardai. It was so transformed, I didn't recognize it as possible and was certain I had adulterated it. Strange NYC makes this barny elegant perfume FALL INTO STARS that I thought for certain I had added my last drops of it to his HIndi.

Only because I found a full unused bottle of Hindi Ganardai tucked away that I couldn't ignore that it really had completely morphed. FALL INTO STARS is pretty amazing, not a huge complaint. But I was reaching for barn.

Anyway my conclusion, completely unscientific, is to get my Hindi's young and to use them immediately.

I can relate. I had been wearing Mesoud’s musk/rose maceration as my everyday go to for a while, and really enjoying applying a couple of dots right before bed so it could solve all my life’s problems and send me off into sleep blissed out and happy to be alive.Well, I hugged a friend hello the other day who was wearing some kind of cologne or body spray and it got all over me and got stuck in my nose and even a shower didn’t completely wash it away. 🤢🤮It totally ruined rose/musk the next time I reached for it. Somehow that nasty synthetic scent had rewired my nose so that what once seemed like gods sweetest most merciful gift made me totally sick. On the bright side, it’s made me dive into some of the neglected oils from a recent sandal buying splurge. Most notably Mesoud’s NTT. I know that I’ll be back and that little magic bottle will make everything right in the world again. Just not right now.

Wow man, that sucks. Crazy how our noses can get re-wired like that so quickly.

Ouds of the Daaaaays
Where to start?
Yusa Aromatics - Naphung: Wild flowers & Banana
Yusa Aromatics - Murasaki: Purple florals & powderiness
These 2 Yusas have remarkably beautiful top notes
Yusa Aromatics - Harimau: Dark, tobacco, resinous & incensy
Jinkoh Store - Royal Viet: Traditional vietnamese done to perfection
Mesoud - Tarakan Qadeem: Cafe Latte in a bottle
Sulaym - Koh Kong 1444: This time I did get the cocao hints mentioned, amazing cambodi too. The lemon tarty nuance came over as a dried fruity cherry? I need more time with it 😋

Murasaki's a legendary Cambodi !

haven't posted in this thread in 2 months and pretty much have worn 2x oils daily (sometimes 4x)....where do I even begin? I can't even remember what I wore at the start of this week 😂
I've bought so many oils over the past 2 years and haven't mentioned many, it can take me months from wearing an oil once before I wear it again and feel a bit bad to not provide feedback (as such) to the vendors - not that my poor descriptions below are of any use really

some standouds that come to mind (ordered alphabetically)

Al Hashimi - Maroke Sultani. Flat-out amazing oil, doesn't come over as soil/earthy

Al Hind - Oud Brunos, fantastic Brunei & Laos co-distill

Al Shareef - Shah. A riveting Hindi, old school to the core without being too heavy on the barn

Attar Store - can't remember the name, but a Silani oil that didn't smell Sri Lankan as I've come to know it. Very smooth but unfortunately very sublte - 3hrs and poof, it'd gone

Attar Store - Merauke (again not sure on the name), but another atypical profile (same goes for Sulaym's SQ Merauke) to what I'd expect. Much better longevity here

Feel Oud - Vietnam Royale. Soooo good, it's a bright oil for sure

Habz - Xiangshui - sweet, shiny, fizzy and bright. It hits in a special way 😍😍

Habz - Caliph, I could apply the same description as above even though they don't smell alike, they 'feel' similar.

MesOud - Tuba. Interesting with this, it used to come across as a very "deep" red and now it's brightened up a bit, it's a little sweeter than I recall. Outsanding

Rising Phoenix - Kakawit 2010 Filipino oil - smells Hindi to me throughout, despite the writeup saying it starts off like that and transitions to Sri Lankan. But, not to my nose. Outstanding longevity on this at over 14hrs and just beautiful

Sulaym - Purple Malay kicking ass & taking names!

Yusa - Murasaki is a great Cambodi that brought a smile to my fave

also one of the worst oils I've tried was from Grandawood - I bought a sample pack of 5 oils - can't remember the exact one but it was a C02 oils. Just deeply unpleasant. It was a shapeshifter and transitioned through several different profiles fairly quickly, however none of them smelled nice!

okay that is all, back to the shadows for a while 🤣
