I'm having a Sri Lankan showdown so far this week.
A Ceylon competition.
A Lakdiva league.
An Eelam echelon
(alright...yes, I am looking up alternative & former names for the country 😉)

Not ranking these as such or comparing them here, just writing what I get from each

Yesterday,
Al Hind Oud - Firdous 1
Imperial Oud - Ceylone Royale

Impressed by the longevity of these, both lasting 12 hours (possibly more; I went to bed). I've always classified the IO oil as one of my all-time favourites due to 2hrs in, it hits this blue note that I get from gently high-grade SL wood which I absolutely adore.
The AH doesn't give me that note but still a fantastic oil. Some words that come to mind include, shiny, emerald, complete, rounded.

Today
Fushigi - Ceylon
HabzOud - Sinharaja Ateeq

The Fushigi had previously struck me as not very walla-like and seemed to have a strong resemblence to the other oils of his that I have. Now that's not so apparent today but still doesn't come over too walla-esque. It's also performing pretty well - another thing I'd noticed was generally low longevity across the board on his oils.

The Habz bears a similarity to the AH oil from yesterday, a very clean and pristine oil. Perhaps a little sweeter. Doesn't have that blue note from the IO oil though.

I have at least 2x more SL oils, maybe even 4 - so this shall continue for the next 2 days!
I have Habz' 2 new oils at hand that I'd like to try but on Sunday evening I decided to do this comparison (kinda) with my SL oils.

Comparing them has been difficult, e.g. the Habz vs AlHind ...as I can't mentally 'picture' what the AH oil smelled like, now!

I've been going thru my collection of Hindi's and revisiting old favorites, for example from EO ~ Oud Hud, I found HUD curiously to have changed similar to other Hindi's that initially had barn and CHEESE. I've noticed that after 3-5 years that my barns become more perfume-y and condensed.

I noticed this as well with JK's Hindi Gangardai. It was so transformed, I didn't recognize it as possible and was certain I had adulterated it. Strange NYC makes this barny elegant perfume FALL INTO STARS that I thought for certain I had added my last drops of it to his HIndi.

Only because I found a full unused bottle of Hindi Ganardai tucked away that I couldn't ignore that it really had completely morphed. FALL INTO STARS is pretty amazing, not a huge complaint. But I was reaching for barn.

Anyway my conclusion, completely unscientific, is to get my Hindi's young and to use them immediately.
That's very interesting - I met up with Habz back in March and he showed me an oil that I had bought when I was new to ouddict in 2018 - Star Oud by Treasure Oud.
I was absolutely blown away upon re-smelling it, it had changed into an absolutely fantastic Hindi, the barn was still there yet much less funkier and it burst out into that stunning Hindi drydown which I don't recall from before
But then I guess it's me trying to think back 6+ years ago as well as any changes my preferences have gone through
I don't wear barny Hindi oils very often now and find it's something you need to get acustomed to - sorta like red wine.

Not sure if I should put this here or in the Attar thread
I’m sampling a Laos oil from Immortal Oud. I swiped next to it a little Jasmine absolute 10% from Eden Botanicals. The resulting scent is the most mesmerizing but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
I asked my wife and she said immediately “this is bubblegum”, and it hit me! Bubble gum. So I ran to my box and got out a nice thick Malinau oud that -alone- smells like sour blueberry bubblegum. And I swiped that too. The 3 ingredients together smell unmistakably like bubblegum, specifically the Hubba Wubba brand that I remember from my childhood. The scents welded together smell NOTHING like oud. Pure artificial flavors sour sweet bubblegum!

Edit : I just tried the Jasmine with a fermented , deep, dark green , sweet and leathery Koh Kong. And now I’m certain that jasmine is magic. It’s like the philosopher’s stone. It just disappears and dissolves in whatever you mix it with, and removes all the “harsh” notes while enhancing everything else. Turning it into a completely different profile with little resemblance to the original. So sad I only ordered a tiny sample. I’ll be using it more in mukhallats.

Oh boy, I’ve been quite a bad ouddict recently and not sharing the lovely oils I’ve been swiping. A few words on them all.

@mesOUD - Dehn al Oud Hindi Ajmad
Goat hair, rotting plums, raw leather, bubbling oud resin.

Sultan Qaboos - Burma
More goat hair, dry hay, tobacco, highly dense thick oil. A drier barnyard style that I’m enjoying immensely.

@mesOUD - Qirose
Rose bushes drenched after a storm, menthol breeze, creamy cotton candy, delicious mix of green/white Kinam adding a beautiful complexity to the sweet cream woody aroma. Cannot get enough of this one.

@mesOUD - Vietnam Classic + Civet Paste
Eye-watering cat musk, funky intoxicating florality, overripe pissed on berries. Addicting!

Jinkoh Store - Grand Emperor Hue
Red barrel aged wine, antiseptic syrup, vanilla honey, vintage Vietnamese gem.

Imperial Oud - Tinsuki
Bubbling cacao, molten oud resin, fecal and barnyard hay aromas. Beautiful oil. Have to find some time to compare it to Amjad.

@mesOUD - Vietking
Wore the bottle I had received that was lost for months again. It smells quite different than my original bottle I got from Mehmet. More leaning on Cherry cough syrup early, a sour vinegar like cola wine, only much later shifting to the creamy red tinted Kinamic scent that appears earlier on in my other bottle. Who knows what’s going on here. Only side by side swiping and my full attention will help.

@Faizal_p - Tigerwood
Dry smoky tobacco and hay, leathery puerh

Agar Aura - Myitkyina 4K
Metallic cold florals, opium laced honey, purple creamy cola

Jinkoh Store - Jinko Kurozato
Vanilla! Anyone know someone with this oil laying around, please let me know! Must have

@mesOUD - Merauke
Muddy waters, halitosis cappuccino, tamed incense smoke

Ensar Oud - Dokusan
Acetone fumes, honey soaked haystacks, crystallized berry piss

@YusaAromatics - Nha Trang KO
Bitter menthol syrup, cotton candy berries, playdoh textured sugars, Kinamic tobacco cinnamon

@mesOUD - Oud Said
The cleanest meanest Oud, my dumb reach swipe when I just want something appealing not only to me, but everyone around me. New car leather, fresh out the shower sparkle, purified cigar smoke.

@mesOUD - Dehn al Oud Hindi Ajmad
Again haha. Love this one

Gloomy and rainy day today so I craved something dark and ancient smelling.

EO Oud Salahuddin
EO Meghalaya 1977

These two would make it in a personal top 10 oud oil ranking if I ever made one. The dark red fumes of Salahuddin along the ancient wood smell pressed against the purple oozing, liquorish ones and the dusty old leather from Meghalaya. Both are dark and grave oils. Symphonies of Darkness.

HabzOud - Raja Hijau.

Fruity sweet, syrupy cola, resinous agarwood notes with some incense-ness, fleeting mintiness, very creamy vanillic notes and buttery and fruity creating a scent as if you are in a bakery. Florals, creamy, and slightly musky-ish notes combined (kinda like the very old Vietnamese Rakoku wood I have but a lot less musky and much easier to detect the florals, but thats comparing top shelf Vietnam wood with an A. rostrata Malaysian oil lol, but the similarities are there which is surprising, helps my nose refine more to the Vietnam wood too). Got some oceanic, mineral, salty-like notes as well, greenery forest notes and some earthiness, great oil.

The profile is like a super complex Malay malaccensis oil on steroids haha (which it is 😂, except its rostrata). Glad I was able to try it, now it has been aged a bit, the aroma has changed a bit and it has actually gotten more gourmet and richer, and less note jumps, and more of a smooth aroma, but it has removed some interesting notes because it is just in a sample bottle.

Great work @Habz786.

Jinkoh Store - Emperor Kedah V1

MIND BUZZ!!
On deep inhalation. The definition of purple: Purple honey, Purple florals (& saffron!?), Purple fruits/grapes/berries/plums, Purple resin, Spices (cinnamon, clove, staranis, cardamom), Cola, Tobacco, Musk, Ethereal & Dark at the same time, capturing the essence of all these notes in a harmony & offering pure satisfaction!

I'd love to have an oud with intense saffron note.

That would be interesting. This one has subtle red nuances with the combination of the floral and musky hints it gave me the saffron association. I am not an expert in flowers and their different scents which is why I keep it general but I find the colors give a nice idea and impression of what I mean when I say red flowers (rosey scent), white flowers (clean/jasmine like scent) etc.
A more saffron dominant oud would definitely be interesting to smell!

Bolisat Lao Super from the early 00's. It's got that bright tang the the HM Lao has. Peaty fermented notes dominate - no idea what species this is. Not crassna so maybe sinensis? I have smelled a handful of distilled sinensis that also had a bright tang, but this is the first that I've seen fermented to this degree, if this is in fact sinensis.
