It’s 5:30 am here and I’ll be leaving for work soon. You’ve inspired me to try a dab of this on my shirt cuff.I’ve been wearing my sample of Al Namir - Habz the last two days. This is one of the most beautiful oils I’ve had the pleasure of smelling. Such a magnificent contrast between the bright green, aromatic jungle top note & the dark oozing resinous Oudy base.
The longer the oil remains on my skin, the more deep, rounded, Agarwood sweet, complex it becomes. Beautiful ethereal purple florals, minty-herbal, tropical fruits & cherries, incense, a touch of Musk, Agarwood bubbling on the sub. A mysterious, ancient aroma. It’s dark, but less austere than Malaysian or Indonesian oils for example.
If you haven’t sampled Al Namir, I highly recommend you do. I believe when it sells out, folks will kick themselves for not acquiring it when they had the chance.
I have 1g on the way, I should probably buy more considering how much I like it.
A swipe of Oud makes those early morning workdays much easier. Enjoy! It’s 5:30 am here and I’ll be leaving for work soon. You’ve inspired me to try a dab of this on my shirt cuff.
Yes, I understand what you’re saying, traditionally distilled Hindi Oud can result in very similar smelling profiles. However, if you contrast smell them side by side, you can perceive obvious differences.I've also tried kalakassi and maybe another Indian oud from his shop and to me, they have such a similar profile that it's hard for me to distinguish from each other. However the one that I liked most is krishnai char. I'm not the best at describing but this is more unique compared to the aforementioned.
Have you tried sultan hijau from habz? 😁I’ve been wearing my sample of Al Namir - Habz the last two days. This is one of the most beautiful oils I’ve had the pleasure of smelling. Such a magnificent contrast between the bright green, aromatic jungle top note & the dark oozing resinous Oudy base.

I'm from Los Angeles. After it rains, it smells like filthy roads, gasoline and oil 😂‘Camphorous’ refers to the scent of Camphor and it has a cooling sensation. Items similar to menthol, and people might say an oil is mentholic too. If you want to know know what it smells like then buy a jar of tiger balm, which has menthol and camphor.
Petrichor is the scent that you get when you go outside after it rains. Some ouds have a similar scent.
Vietking is a very special oil for me too.Hello Ouddicts 🙂
Hope you are all well ^^
Today I decided to make a side by side
MesOud Vietking 🍒 🍒🍒 🍯
Olefactory VB Thaï cherry 🌾🍒 🍵
It’s amazing how an oil can remind you another one, and whenever you swipe them side by side it’s totally different !
Indeed they sharing some similarities…
But in a such different way …
When Thaï cherry is powdery, bitter and grassy, Vietking is rounded , honeyed and sweety !
Thaï cherry got matcha tea bitterness with hay notes in powdery way …
Vietking got that unbelievable cherry notes fiber and even juice that makes you want to taste it ^^
It’s almost like candy feeling… mouthwatering… licorice and anis stars spice on a cinnamon stick and vanilla beans… it’s an addicting scent …
I finally have to say it’s impossible to compare them as one is much more superior in terms of quality…
Thaï cherry is very interesting to know how crassna can smell without any soaked notes …
Ejay distilled this affordable oil very well Indeed… cuz it remind me also some similarities with King K Nam …
It’s a Berry nice oil ^^
Vietking smell straight Kyara scent in low heat … even more than EOC which was Two times more Honey focused !!
When Vietking is Red to my mind , EOC was Yellow in terms of smell … sweeter and really more honeyed …
Vietking is more accurate with kyara notes … like GENT was… but sweeter …
With additional ultra top notes …
Vietking kick me each time i swipe it …
I take care to save my wudhu … I try my best 😅
Have Gooud day dear friends 🙂
Is it really only geosmin? I’m familiar with geosmin from potable water settings, but not rain. As far as I know, it is a microbio byproduct. Tasteable in 1-3 ppt concentrations!Geosmin is the aroma molecule responsible for the smell of rain which is essentially wet dirt and I do believe you can purchase geosmin aromamolecules which is awesome.
I’d also recommend buying pure camphor crystals for the smell of real camphor. It’s sweet, cooling, slightly bitter and smells way better than tigers balm but nothing beats a good ol’ pack of Newport’s for that menthol aroma. It’s more of a feeling than a small.
Petrichor I would almost describe as the smell of earthy, moldy, dusty, ancient, desiccated woods and rocks. Like rain can be described as a petrichor scent but not all petrichor scents smell like rain.
The best way to train your nose is to buy raw materials, study perfumery, study perfumes, cross reference more than necessary and understand that there’s objective truths with smell but all of it is deeply personal and subjective on an individual. For example we all know a rose smells like a rose. You would never say a rose smells like jasmine but a rose can have jasmine-like facets. Knowing what each material smells like is important when you make the connection to these flowers in other materials.
"As rain hits the soil it generates these aerosols, this fine mist of droplets that get into the air that carry this bacterially produced geosmin with it," said UC Davis plant pathologist Dr. Johan Leveau. Those tiny geosmin particles eventually reach our nose and we experience that petrichor smell”Is it really only geosmin? I’m familiar with geosmin from potable water settings, but not rain. What’s interesting about Thai Cherry is that it WAS soaked. I believe for like 90 days or something crazy like that. Maybe it was only 6 weeks but I know he soaked it for a good amount of time. He does those super clean cold distilled water soaks where every day/night he changes out the water so that the oil smells clean but has a rich profile. Very interesting stuff. It’s really fun to see how a soaked oil can smell when it’s soaked in a way that brings out a “clean” version of complexity verse a musky version of complexity.Hello Ouddicts 🙂

Yes bro totally agree with you !What’s interesting about Thai Cherry is that it WAS soaked. I believe for like 90 days or something crazy like that. When he first told me of his process it was so interesting because he’d go out of his way to share what he’s learned. It’s made me realize a lot of “no soak” oils most likely are soaked especially if they have that ultra rich, full profile to them. Then when you smell a truly no soaked oil a lot of times they smell thin, have fleeting top notes that smell great but are delicate verse an oil like Thai Cherry that is filled with complexity for being a pretty standard plantation Thai oil. The fact that he was able to make an oil smell that good, at that low of a price, with that kind of wood speaks volumes to his methods.
These are all good points as well.Yeah the oud market is difficult to navigate. The ad copy is one thing, then you get some and you’re like “oh, this one smells like oven cleaner and that one smells like a dusty purse full of moldy hay. Cool cool.”
Yeah I get what you mean there. I just avoid it since to be honest, I generally don't care for most oils and quite often don't care for many oils that a lot of people seem to enjoy. So if I posted my honest thoughts about everything I tried it would inevitably be mostly negative.I think it’s valuable to talk about oils you don’t like. After all this community is meant for discussion and not for blind praise. There’s lots of oils I don’t like and will talk about openly. For example Lindaraja. It’s a solid oil at the price it was originally sold at but it’s not worth it at all for the new price they started selling it at especially with how poorly it performs. We should be allowed to talk about oils we find lacking, pricing we disagree with, stories that are used to market oils. I don’t think it’s toxic and doesn’t hurt any one’s feelings. You can’t please everyone.
When you say contrast smell, do you mean comparing distilled oud oil vs. Raw oud? I've tried hindi oud chips before and I enjoyed the fragrance from burning it more than the oils I've tried. It had this creamy richness to it along with spices which i don't detect with oils. I haven't tried enough hindi oils yet, the 3 or 4 that I have are all lower budget oils from which i deduced that I'm not a big fan. The scent is quite harsh and loud in the beginning but yes, that initial barnyard/fecal note does eventually subside and it does develop into something more palatable to my tastes but I still find myself reaching for oils from different regions before hindi. Perhaps it's time that I splurge on a higher quality hindi oud that maybe you can suggest?Yes, I understand what you’re saying, traditionally distilled Hindi Oud can result in very similar smelling profiles. However, if you contrast smell them side by side, you can perceive obvious differences.
Describing what you’re smelling is also challenging. I’ve always found Hindi Oud to be the hardest to review & to decipher the notes.
You mentioned in your previous post, you aren’t the biggest fan of the barn. While I absolutely adore it, I can see why some people don’t. Do you find the barnyard top note subsidies after an hour or so? For me, the intensity drops off, revealing the beautiful warm, buttery-sweet, ambery, leathery, deeply Oudy resinous base note.
When it’s high quality & distilled correctly the dry down is my favourite aroma in the entire world!
Have you tried applying Hindi oils to fabric, I’d highly recommend this method, for me it brings out the best. One or two small drops rubbed gently between both hands, lightly applied to your shirt with the excess wiped onto the beard or hair. Try it & see!
Same 🤣 rainy day in LA smells like wet tarmac.I'm from Los Angeles. After it rains, it smells like filthy roads, gasoline and oil 😂
I wore that one yesterday. The longevity is huge..I could still smell it on me this morning. The smoke/incense note is very noticeable.Arrakan classic @An Najwa for the night - not sure what soak time was for the wood but this oil is devoid of funk (maybe there is but I don’t call it funk ) - a few minutes in and I’m getting sweet fruity berries and gentle smoke - dry and warm with honeyed hay notes.
Going to enjoy it now.
