Dongguan - Yusa

Samples just landed yesterday, so these are only first impressions.

Smells more like the cleanest sinensis leaning Hindi I've ever smelled, more so than something I would label as Chinese. Different than HK or Hainan. Pretty nice and looking forward to getting to know it more as it seems to have a fair amount going on.

King Kali - Oudique

Woody, cedar, peanut shell leaning Borneo with slight vanillic and minty tones. Dry down smells really similar to patchouli, which is one of my least fav smells. Longevity and projection seem to be decently strong. Very affordable and good quality oil if someone was looking for this profile, but it's not my preference.

Nha Trang zeitaku - Oudique

Oddly enough this is much cheaper than Nha Trang oritsu but I prefer this profile much more. It's not as rich or as deep as oritsu and does not seem to last as long, but it's also not the fruity slight band aid aroma of your normal crassna. This one seems to lean more towards the sinensis side of Nha Trang. Seems like I go kind of nose blind to it quickly, so I'll need more time with it, but it does seem pretty nice and something I would swipe regularly, especially for the price point.

I have Fili mukashi and Hainan huangzu to sample as well but I'll leave that for another time.

In short, I would say the Oudique oils are affordable and punch above their price point. Great for those who are new and wanting to get into oud oils or those who want reasonable daily driver ouds to swipe with out care, which I think is basically their M.O. for the company.

EO Chugoku Naya

I've been on a full Hindi oil crave for the past several weeks. Maybe it's because of these damned freezing temperatures. These oils are sweet and have enough power to cut through the cold and keep me warm. Today is all about honey-dripped baklavas topped with nuts and served next to a glass of steamed milk sprinkled with cinnamon. What I love about Chugoku Naya is that it doesn't stay in this mouthwatering gourmand territory as the dry down presents hay, creamy flowers, and plenty of brown leather shades. It's like going to the palace to visit the Sultan for lunch and then going on horseback at sunset over the palace grounds. This type of Hindi oil is my favorite. Where savory and/or fruity/gourmand notes are balanced by clean hay, leather, flowers, clay, etc. I don't care much for those super clean and sweet Hindis as I get bored with them rather quickly.

Ariyani SQ

There is no way this oil was distilled with regular water. I have 2 theories, Either adulterated or distilled in rose and Omani hojari water. That's said, it is a gorgeous oil, nothing remotely similar, sparkling rosey green resinous with the green Ariyani back ground. Whenever I thought I'm done with surprises I face new oil that is telling me I'm not even close.

Which oil is this, where did you get it?

Hoi An Ultima from @Faizal_p is hitting the spot. Dense rich beautiful oud - has some of the bittersweet satisfying throaty depths that I love about the Super Hoi An. You'd never confuse the two but there is definitely something tying these oils together for me. Love this oil

This evening's swipe is Emperor Sisek Dragon from Jinkoh Store.
This Brunei oil opens with an earthy, somewhat green or camphorous tone. However it quickly transforms into a deep, hobey sweet and resinous oil. I'm getting similar vibes as Maluku Qi but not quite as sweet. This is a very clean distillation and really jumping off of my skin.

I like yourself love the first iteration so much I wanted to get it done again but using much higher quality wild wood. The soak was really clean too so it has similarities but to me it sings at a higher pitch

I just applied another swipe - I am again appreciating some of the shared characteristics - a certain presence and balance of sweet, phenolic, pungent, and bitter notes. I feel like this has a little bit less funk/ferment to it than Super Hoi An and I think i see what you mean about its pitch. I feel like whoever is distilling this really understands how to bring out the best in the wood.

I think some of you all here would like the "royal hainan barnyard" from yuzhi. Bright sinensis twang and to my nose the fermentation smells like he nailed the hindi type pre-soak. So this has those tangy peat moss sinensis notes, nice and rich bittersweet with a chocolatey and clean stable aspect. I very much wonder how this would smell to one of the real Hindi aficionados around here? The dry down I am experiencing at the current moment is extremely pleasant to put it mildly.

Dongguan - yusa

Good oil, definitely the cleanest hindi ive ever smelled, with a sinensis leaning.

Leyte imperiale - Kymya

Quite nice now that the dirty ocean note is settled down and the leyte profile is coming out
Believe Dongguan is a Chinese oud.

Also just checked my Leyte Imperial and it's developed quite a lot of strength (perhaps a punchy-ness to it) since I smelled it last, starting to loose some of the more syrupy notes I wasn't a fan of initially, in fact one of the aspects of Fili oils I'm perpetually afraid of.

I know it’s Chinese, lol

Im just describing the scent since it doesn’t smell chinese to me at all but instead the cleanest hindi ever 😊

Glad to hear you’re leyte imperiale is developing as well. Im not a fan of that syrupy aspect either, seems like it’s getting a bit more floral and tropical now too.

I wore a little bit of the Tarakan Qadeem I got from @mesOUD a while back. I was wearing this stuff every day for many months, but decided to move it into the "special occasion" bin so I don't use it all up.

I like the balance of roasted and bitter and sweet notes in this. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but it has a feeling of a higher temperature distillation maybe because it's got this kind of roasted phenolic feeling that sets it apart in some ways. I am a fan of this one, that's for sure.

SUPER HOI AN

Every time I drag the bottle out I wonder if I overhyped this because in my mind it's basically everything that I'm looking for in oud. Not perfect necessarily - I don't know what perfect would be like - but bringing everything to the table that I'm looking for for sure. It just exceeded my expectations, as it does every time I interact with it. "Thank you" to the Imperial Oud crew who made this happen

Blown away today by Havaa by @mesOUD as well- holy moly! It has that sweet confectionery custardy thing I associate with Bornoeo plus all kinds of complexity and saturated oudy bittersweet tangy woody beauty. What a treat!

i just want to bathe in it. gyrinops is my favorite right next to barnyards. these drops are a gem in my collection... i hope i can find another one like this!

Reflecting on the yuzhi oud set I received. Eight different oils, including carbon dioxide extracts and both soaked and unsoaked distilled oils.

The eight oils are more or less distinguishable from one another and do represent eight distinct products, but what's interesting is there is a shared core to all of them. kind of feels like they are all from the same basic kind of wood. I was hoping for a little more fundamental variation - these are all with a kind of melony and crassna adjacent top note - reminds me of ejayb's ck distillate in the tops - must be the same chemotype of wood going into these extraction ( I'm not commenting on the quality of ejayb's oil. )

This is one of three or four distinct chemotypes of plantation sinensis oil i have sniffed, unfortunately it's not the type that I'm really looking for. There is one that leans more minty and medicinal which I've encountered a couple of times, and yet another that has a bit more petrichor and peppery aspects. I would love to find someone who is producing or wholesaling the mint-medicinal and the petrichor / peppery stuff
i was wondering if that was going to be the case. it seems to me that these plantations that produce their own oil make good product, but its not small batch good. i would love to see what would come out of my still if i cooked that wood! (and at that price it might be feasible even for me)
