Comparing budget co2 sinensis oils - this time by burning a bit on an incense stick to compare because some cheap bland ones smell so good this way. Hate to say it but the Grandawood oil "double happiness" is again falling far short of oils that are much less expensive. In this case, I tried burning a bit of the grandawood co2 and it releases none of the pleasant kinamish* notes i get from the others. Weird stuff - their "Triple Happiness" is very pleasant, but is listed as from wild wood yet is just like a typical entry CK oil. Not sure what the story is but I would go elsewhere for sinensis.

*may or may not mean the same thing as kinamic
Pretty disappointing. Not sure what the deal is there either. The stories attached to his oils and woods are lengthy.

It smelled bad when burning - kind of greasy. Must be from the white / bunk wood I guess.

Two oils smelled nice. The "golden sun" is a bright low soak sparkling type sinensis, hot poker induction. Odd and medicinal as well, but interesting. Also the "triple happiness" co2 is nice smelling with a good dry down (though nothing spectacular in light of yuzhi's oils which are less expensive).
AlHind-Oud - Leyte reverie, Amazingly clean oil. A little goes a long way. Man it smells good.
I have a sample of this and I need to spend more time with it. First impression is like what you describe!

Fragrant Harbor Kymya. A tiny swipe and wow, the strength of this oil is amazing piercing bitterness usual nha trang kinamic profile. Beautiful nostril full into the throat. It is neither too berry sweet nor bitter like nha trang qinan but well balanced in the middle. A little goes a long way.
Oils like these make you fall in love with oud yet again. I was more into attars lately putting my oud oils aside for a while now but this one is triggering my enthusiasm for ouds again.

Hamza's oils are all on a different echelon! This one is only second to Silani Royale, but not by much. You nailed it description on the head, it's that middle ground it possesses, the best of both worlds, a sweetened Nha Trang profile but still maintaining its characteristic bitterness. Ultimately what make this oil such an experience is the strength, I was working from a dot or two, one day I wore this outside and that experience of being in love with a new oil was the constant I felt throughout the wear. Mind you it was in the middle of summer, not a super hot day but I was out the whole time, and still able to enjoy it easily!

Absolutely right! Just a dot or two is enough for hours and hours of enjoyment. After about 30 minutes it really starts to show its full profile and this profile never fades for hours. When sniffed deep I still get that kinamic piercing nostril full experience even after many hours with just a dot or two. A gram will last a very long time.

100% agree with you, Hamza’s oils & woods are incredible! I love how he quietly goes about business, he knows he’s got the good stuff & those in the know will come to him. Nha Trang Qinan, Silani Sultan & the new Brunei are 3 of the best oils in my collection. Not to mention a sinking batch of Silani wood I received a few months back, perfection!

Yes, the best way to enjoy these high grade oils is by using a smaller amount. Less is more. For whatever reason, I get better projection from a small dot on my forearm than when I apply a larger amount to my beard, neck & clothing.

EO Oud Sultani 2001
Beautiful smooth oil, very floral and buttery, no rough edge, I can't imagine anyone dislike it. When I smell it I imagine a room full of purple flowers with a large stacks of butter in the corner, milk with honey in a copper pot on the stove near opened windows. Easily among the most beautiful oud oils ever made. The biggest issue with this oil is the performance, it's faint and subtle, stays very close to the skin, and after 3-4 hours you need to bury your nose to get a whiff.

Among the best Malaysians ever. It stays close to the skin but for me it lasts along time.

SUUUUUPER HOOOOOOI ANNNNNN!

It ain't perfect, but it's fan-freaking-tastic. Wish i had enough to use as an ingredient- this stuff would hold its own in the ring against other aromatics. Someone was asking about dark profile - this has just the right amount for me. Whoever distilled this got something just right.

This stuff is beautiful full strength and stunning at 1-2% in everclear as an oud EDT all by itself.

Following up on yesterday's post i got out the "triple happiness" from grandawood. Either it has changed or I have. My memory was of a pretty freshly floral cucumbery sinensis with a dry down that brought vietnamese sinensis agarwood to mind. I swiped is expecting it to be more comparable to some other nice sinensis oils that I've smelled recently but when I put it on today I was actually reminded of the "double happiness" plantation oil more than any other oil in my stash - that same crayon and dull pungent wood pulp smell, mid tones are cloying and kind of sour in an unpleasant way and salivary notes like the nineregions $45/qt oil.

Totally perplexing because I gave this thing solid reviews in the past and my memory was of something very much worth swiping. This oil is 75% off notes 25% pleasant notes to me nose now - the dull pungency seems to have bloomed and this is something i will be washing off.

I usually just give things a pass when they don't smell good and focus on the things that I would recommend to others, but in this case I have said positive things about this in the past and it needs to be corrected.

Opens up very sweet and slightly medicinal, then transitions beautifully to fruits, white florals, banana and mint leafs eventually drying to a clean crisp addictive incense. One of the best oils I’ve tried in a very long time.
