I have a Prachin from Olefaktory that has been aging for a few years. It is dark, definitely has an incense and tobacco profile. One of these oils with a little too much mid-register odd pungency, so I am very hopeful that time will transform it.Different aged prachinburi oud oil.
I always smell this from the bottle and it’s the first time I put it on my skin, new powdery floral smell emerged. Along with prunes, warm spices, a little incense and ancient woods, wet earth. Aging improved the profile of Prachin oud significantly, the difference between new and aged ones is like night and day. It’s now more meditative, deeper and darker.
That pungency is unfortunately common with Thai Ouds for some reason, I don’t know if it’s the species, weather or distillation, and with prachin Oud’s it’s the strongest, it does become milder with age.I have a Prachin from Olefaktory that has been aging for a few years. I have a handful of quarter tolas of oil like that (not all prachin) that I need to find a way to tame. The oils contain wonderful aromas but that freaking pungent note just kills it. I have a section of my notebook entitled "cheap oud salvage operation" but I haven't put in the time I need to and only have recorded a few tests there. I will add your suggestions to the list! That pungency is unfortunately common with Thai Ouds for some reason, I don’t know if it’s the species, weather or distillation, and with prachin Oud’s it’s the strongest, it does become milder with age.
I have a 12 year old prachin Oud coming on the way, I’ll see if it does go away completely, or transform into something else.
You can dampen those notes with sambac or tuberose I find, but then again I add sambac absolute to any oil I dislike 😂 it works with everything tbh
Congrats ,you pulled the trigger on AA noir? It's a fourth gen ,less complex than 3rd gen. But on the upside longlastingHeavy testing day 😁
Comparing habzoud jaya quadeem with AA jayapura, because i own only this two from this region.
They are very different!
AA jayapura is light, airy, medicinal with a slight woody touch whereas
Habzoud jaya q. has a rich aroma.
I think i smell things like old books, toasted wood (like in wine barrels), a minor nuance of wet earth, a nutty touch and many more notes i cant name correctly.
Habz oil changes pretty much from the toasted wood in the beginning to old bookshelfs in the drydown.
AA stays pretty linear gets a little bit sweeter in the end.
