Do you pick up on any muskiness or am I doubletime crazy?

I quite enjoy it on a warm day in the garden.
Can't say that I have but it does lend itself to working perfectly with musk. I've only worn this the once (last night), so I'll give it another go later today and listen out for some muskiness. Right now I've got a nice healthy swipe of this beauty. Oud Chachak. Seriously guys... people need to try this one out. It's very affordable and is a surprise.

I really enjoy scent memory association's. I've had a couple of bottles of Oud Chackak now and mainly worn it at home. However, earlier this year I went to New Zealand for a trip and stayed in Queenstown. It was coming into Autumn and already quite cold there. I had brought a small amout of Oud Chackak with me in my travel tin and decided one day before we headed out to put a bit on. This was the first time I had worn it in much colder climate with very dry air. Those elements made the small amout I was wearing to come out a LOT stronger than I feel it usually is. I didn't mind this of course but my partner was down wind from me and she did not appreciate it as much as myself. To keep the peace, I did not wear it again for the remainder of our stay which was about another 7 days. That one swipe though was all that was needed for me to store this scent within a memory of Queenstown New Zealand. Now, everytime I smell it I'm instantly transported back. Love it.

I noticed something quite interesting today. As I said above..I just got a full bottle of Oud Chachak - Habzoud the other day. It's a viscous oil with wonderful medicine and wood notes. I thought I'd pull out my older bottle of the same and use it up first before starting on the new one in earnest. When I've put on a small swipe I couldn't help but notice how much thicker in texture this one is. Almost to thaqueel stickiness. Also, the overall scent has deepened considerably. Strong, deep wood notes but with a powder-y sweetness to it as well. Only difference is the headspace in the bottle as it's all the same age as far as I'm aware. Nice little example of how exposure to air can really change an ouds behaviour and profile.

Isn't it wild man? I remember my first order of oud oils, which was from Ensar, he gave me sample vials of the oils I had ordered, among some very expensive attars as well. But what I was most intrigued by was how different the sample vial oils smelled compared to their full bottle companions. I remember with Satori Senkoh I was kinda perplexed, was I given the same oil in the vial as the one I had purchased a full bottle of? 🤔Naga Kubra was the same.

It's really quite remarkable. The full bottle goes through a transition of notes into the dry down but the oxidised bottle is like it's straight dry down scent.🤤

it's always nice to experience firsthand some of these more interesting and subtle aspects of the oils. It also gives one a tangible sense of why it's a common practice to air certain types of oils out because in some cases that thickness and changed aroma is better than the one that's fresh out of the pot.

there was a dark Malay oil I got back in my early collecting days, some kind of really over the top phenolic Tigerwood type oil and for me at the time, that profile was surprising and un appealing. I stored that one with a regular cork in the flask instead of a screw on cap. Pretty good seal but a little bit less perfect and I was figuring the air exchange would benefit the oil. it has become beautiful with time. Been sitting like that for 25 years! went from something I was hesitant to wear at all, to something that I only save for special occasions.

i'm poking through things here as I'm waiting for the rotovap to finish it's magic.

Here's what Amiri came in back in 1999. This was set in a sandy yellow pyramidal box that split open at the top if I recall. That was the first luxury oriented packaging I had ever experienced - I was pretty impressed.
[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

Yaaseen - Nagaland23 & santal_and_oud Merauke asgon 2020 (dead tree) - Santal_and_oud (Franklin) does not have this vintage available but I believe he has a new distillation of it. It's a lot of pine, almost to the level of pine-sol, and the lemony undertones swing it towards that direction too. Otherwise, bitter green fauna, citrus peels, slight tropicality, and a strong backbone of vanilla-tinged vetiver. Mostly I get pine, this one isn't really for me, I'm glad I only have a sample.

Unsure on the source of this Nagaland 2023 distillation but even as a hindi lover, this one isn't amazing. strong base of "off" notes, which come off as saliva-y to my nose. Heavy moist barn with charry hay, horse stable. Gasoline and lacquer too. A lot of classical hindi here but lacking any real sweetness, gourmand elements, and refinement. It's not bad.

Sokkat AlTeeb - Seufi Mezuram Oud oil

Seufi Mezuram Oud unfolds with a deep resinous warmth, weaving smoky leather, earthy woods, and a subtle sweetness that lingers with refined complexity. It’s not dissimilar to Nagaland. But the animalics are toned down. And the sweetness is turned up a notch. All in all an enjoyable Oud.

Vintage Viet Royale - @AlHind Oud

I was talking to @Mainiac about this banger earlier, and it made me want to revist it.

Right off application it hits like I just hit the perfect temperature to unlock the full spectrum of magic in the highest grade Nha Trang wood. Definitely has that kinamic psychoactive quality to it. Nose tingling, body numbing waves of relaxation that radiate from head to toe and focus in my chest and shoulders.

Definitely one of the top oils in my collection.

So glad you're revisiting VVR. Means a lot that it's one of the best oils in your collection. I truly appreciate you. It's matured enough to reveal all its facets clearly.
