The Oud Trader – Wild Aged 20+ Years Cambodi (Phnom)

Off the cap, this is smoky and almost tobacco-like, with a slightly dry texture rather than a sticky, resinous feel. There’s a dark, almost purple quality to it, reminiscent of wine.

On skin, the smokiness opens up, revealing a subtle grape jam sweetness that’s rich without being syrupy. I was expecting something much darker and more intense, especially compared to other Cambodi I’ve experienced, but this one is surprisingly well-balanced. It has a mild resinous quality, with hints of leather and tree bark, but nothing feels too aggressive.

As it warms up, I keep imagining a cigar and wine lounge, with leather seats and a glass of red wine. It has a refined boldness to it. Rather than that dark, smoky, rugged kind of vibe.

To me, this is a classic oud profile: clean, polished woodiness with a dry, leathery edge and just enough smokiness and fruity sweetness to keep things interesting.
