Just swiped some Camellia....
White flowers, dark fruit jam, tobacco, and tea.
Some bitterness with resin.
I love tobacco in oud any day😎

Camellia smells like the brother of Au Luong, both share an otherworldly........no, not otherworldly, both share an unusual oud scent. Of the two, Camellia is closer to the usual Cambodi profile. It just goes to show that “The Professor” has many tweaks up his sleeve, making unique oils to tease our nostrils[emoji23] Taha is such an Ouddicti[emoji106][emoji106]

I wish I had a full bottle of both Camellia and Au Luong, but I wouldn’t classify them as the pinnacle of any region or genre.
How would u compare them with zazen.

With all the love for Agar Aura in recent times I thought I would revisit my samples bought more than a year ago. So sotd is Ceylon No.1.

BOOM.....this is extraordinary. I have been blown away by Sutera Ungu before but this thing is meditative. As some of my friends here will know I am not too fond of the Sri profiles but this is a gamechanger. I have been ridiculed by some for not liking ORSL. I dont know why but this just proves how different Taha thinks. He has taken the Walla DNA and given it the AgarAura Lift. It is this signature tone that comes through his best works. Esp the pale colored Oils. I have the moat exquisite, meditative scent bubble around me. I will be honest I wasnt so good with Ouds back then nor was I ready to such hefty prices. I used to buy samples and I was new to proper listening.

I wish I had gotten this bottle in full. Ceylon No.1. It is definitely no.1. Nothing comes close. If something really does and is available, please let me know guys. Phew! Mindblow. Talk about technique of distillation. Better call it art. This is Oud Art at its finest.

@hassam mac
I have not tried Zazen, but I’ve seen reviews for that oil. It sounds interesting.

This afternoon.....Malay Encens
This oil is already aged, I wonder what another 10 years will do for it:Geek:

This evening.........FO Thai Papua
There is no Papua in this oil.
The focus here is the honey/sugar sweetness, with florals and fruits held at bay.

Russian Adam made some interesting oils during this period (Sam Yan, Full On, Bio Chan Ko, Thai Papua).

My oud of the night 🙂

Bandarban hills (RBO) : Really difficult opening, the first 15 min are :Poop:. Half hour in a lovely barnyard leatherly scent is wafting from my wrist.
I need more time with it . So far i'm loving it, but that opening :Barefoot: :Roflmao:

Its one of the modern wild Cambodis. Ask Rai Munir he announced it as the THE Cambodi.

Regarding the profile and if it's true to "Cambodian as such", it's forgettable...
:praying: :Roflmao:
Respected Ammar, hope you might have tried Hindustan 1 as well.

I found that diametrically different from the known Hindi oils, and found this new profile vibrant enough to be called 'the' oil. The same is there in/ with Camellia and Kuzen.

I am trying hard to come out of ancient notes, tones and profiles. Otherwise, 99 % Oud oils that are tagged 'the' on the forums even won't deserve 'a'.

No I haven't tried H1 yet but I'm sure it's pretty oil full of aromatic airy notes that don't easily get extracted from Hindi oudwood and only present due to meticulous distillation‌ done with care and love.

So "Oud as Such" identity crises or?...

Respected Oudamberlove, would you mention what Camellia and Au Luong lack, please? If possible, include Kuzen as well. Thank you very much.

Dear Rai

Both Camellia and Au Luong do not lack anything. They are unique specimens, from a unique batch of Cambodi Agarwood. The apparatus tweak was purposed to showcase this batch of agarwood.

As I mentioned, Camellia is closer of the two, to a more typical Cambodi oil. I like how it opens-up at the heart phase. Wish I had a full bottle of each.

However, for some “pinnacle type non-barn Cambodi”, I would lean towards Khmer Special K.

I didn’t get a chance to try Kuzen. But I do have Kanzen. I’ll swipe Kanzen today and see how it’s aging.

I’m no expert on anything, but I have smelled every single Sri Lankan released by our artisans aside from one of the early IO releases, Sultan Abu Zahi and one recent Sri Lankan from RBO.

Ceylon No. 1 is at a completely different level. I would say if you haven’t smelled it, then you almost don’t know what walla patta is, so outstanding is the scent.

And yes, it captures the soul of the country in a way that no other oil does.

It can be said like that. But respected Ammar, for me it is like a journey from Mechanics to Quantum. So, not an identity crisis, but a broader spectrum.

You people have more exposure than I have. I generally think why an oil is not true to wood aroma. Now it has happened. I am sure your ample experience and acute critical sensibility lead to a better view of the oils. So, I always wait for your review.

At the moment. I am a blind follower of Tyson, AA, and IO. They have lessened the gap between oil/s and wood.

'Oud as such' is to be redefined keeping in view the latest oils.

Dearest Oudamberlove, I didn't try KSK; it is loved by all the senior members here. I joined the forum quite late.

Well, I found Camellia and Kuzen free from barn. This is my first impression. The oils are quite fresh. Let's see what they would reflect after a couple of weeks.

I love both oils because of their being free from unnecessarily barn, heavy , tobacco, etc. nuances, but very constant Oud aroma they do emit. Wood is perpetually being burnt inside the vial.

Indeed my brother. The thing that amazes me as much as C1 itself is how Taha was able to do that as the first experience with Sri Lankan wood.
