Eid Mubarak to all our brothers and sisters on the forum!

Haven't posted here in awhile, work has been killer but it's all worth it in the end.

My Oud of the day is a lot more than just Oud. I have Adan swiped behind each ear, with a Siberian/Kashmir Musk maceration on the wrists, and pure Tibetan Musk extract in the beard.

Am I ultra fragrant today? Yes :Roflmao::Roflmao: Today is a good day!
Subhannallah...Eid Mubarak brother

Sir, after wasting a lot of oil, finally, I learnt Ceylon Oud, Musk and Sandal are way better than Malaysian or even Hindi Oud.
There is no doubt Hoi An is replete with aromatic nuances, so I layered musk.

I have only one gram, otherwise, till now I would have macerated musk in it.

Inspired by you Rai, i have a little bottle with around 2.3 ml of EO TWR with .3gr of Tibetan musk (8 months) plus .25gr of musk (2 months) from @Ulugbek Abdumominov .... so a total of .55gr musk in there...coming along nicely and i think it smells really good. @OudGood tried it too...
Also EO Tw95, approx 2.5gr with .3gr Tibetan, at around 7 months, thats also doing well...
Perhaps certain Malaysian might be better suited for musk than others.
Bottom line, whatever oil one is adding musk to must smell good to begin with.

Thinking about topping up the empty space in those bottles with some sandalwood oil, not sure about that though...

I have found oud and musk to pair well most every time. Musk can get swamped but it does a great job to “exalt” the oud scent and accentuate it.

Yup, i loved your musk maceration in Tigerwood Royale. In fact I liked it so much I am thinking about doing it too in future.

Wow! :praying:

I started with Malaysian Tigerwood, Laotian Sasong, Hindi Semkhor, and Wilpatu Raja. All were prepared in separate bottles.

Laotian Sasong, Santal and Musk got rancid. So, I had to dump that. Horrible experience. Hindi Semkhor, Santal and Musk was wearable. Nothing more, nothing less. Malay Tigerwood, Santal and Musk was outstanding. It is still with. Ceylon Wilpatu Raja, Santal, and Musk had one plus point: Sweet pungent Walla Patta tone turned the maceration into a high caliber attar. I blended a drop of Jasmine Sambac, and it was complete. Totally consumed.

Oud Good has tried Tigerwood Santal Musk, Ceylon Santal Musk, Green Papua Santal Musk, Archipelago Santal Musk macerations.

Mixing Santal would infuse soft and smooth feel into the maceration. You can try the layering first to have an idea about the result.

Dear Arsalan, Ulugbek's Musk has a unique dimension in a way it is the strongest animalic Musk in Santal. Even somewhat difficult to wear neat maceration. 😛

Godspeed! But Tigerwood is the Malaysian Oud with a low cola tone. If cola tone is high, the outcome will be lying on the lawn:Roflmao:. First time, Mr Faheem told me about macerating Malaysian Oud. In fact he used the word 'sweet Oud' like Malaysian. He referred to Mr Sultan as well. And here I had read Mr Al Shareef's views. No doubt, the safest path is Malaysian.

I have started macerating new oils. This is the season.

Your experimentation with musk provides us with invaluable guidance, thank you for sharing!
Will try layering with the various santal options to see if any stands out before adding to the bottle.

Question about the oud+santal+musk > santal+musk maceration, then add to oud, or all together?

You are right about the musk from Ulugbek, i have just 0.1gr in around 3ml of IO’s Mysore ‘14, been a couple of months, and it is absolutely intense! Really surprised me...since smelling the grains alone doesn’t show what they are capable of...:Roflmao:

That drop of Jasmine to your maceration made a hige difference. It has become such a stunning attar. Not too loud but something very soothing like Euphoria of Tyson.

Exactly. I never tried to replicate that. At the moment, I have two Santal Musk and jasmine macerations. One in only Kashmiri musk, and the other is in Tibetan and Siberian. The former one is my favourite.

I was a lazy person actually, but the day I realized I have to smell what is not of my taste through acquiring from here and there. I don't like oils with loud notes at all. Nor am I habitual to oils with extreme projection.

Within my limited means, I experimented a lot. One thing that has perplexed me a lot: Why do majority of attars smell that strong and loud? Behaviour of musk grains is different, but in maceration the behaviour is different.

Loudness is a big question for me.

Well, I always use Santal in each maceration. Only one maceration I have that is without Santal that is Rose and Musk.
I mostly mix all ingredients at the time of macerating musk.

If I have to prepare some attar, I get oils from different macerations and blend them. Again it takes time to be an attar.
