Today I’m wearing Koh Kong Imperiale from Imperial Oud.

When I first received a box of samples from IO around a year ago, this was the one that immediately captured my attention. A really woody opening that is bright and airy, before becoming honeyed and fruitier throughout the wear.

Traces of sinensis CO2 on my arm. What a strange oil this is... its growing on me though not my favorite, it is 100 times more oudy than the old agarwood co2 that used to be around like eden carried. The dark greasy stuff that smelled like dry wood. I actually like that stuff but this is a whole different level.

Rose de Malaisie (LMK, 2017): The green rose bud and leave like smell has meld and turned into something more herbal. There is bitter tea, medicinal, bone-dry hay, green stems, saffron's dry leather. Over time it is getting deeper, moodier and smokier. I treasure this ever-changing nature of oud oils.

Hong Kong Kinam

I’m not greeted by volatility
neither projection
so I come in close
to a fat oudy slap:hand:like fragrant ghee.
The incense grade factor reeks,
reminding me of dry downs from heavy-hitter oils.
Although sillage is low,
the scent does bloom a little
with a top layer of cream
and a woody agarwood perfume
breaking through that layer.
It’s at this point that “kinam” makes sense,
my jaw drops, sparkles in my eyes,
dang! what a lovely oud,
that caters to the Agarwood Lover in me,
not the Fraghead.
As I search for bitterness and medicinal,
there is some, but as I sniff away
my imagination thinks that a
fragrant chip is transforming to vapor
right under my nose.
It’s an awesome ride🙂
Who distilled this one? Is it an oriscent?
