Wearing some AA Myanma gold this morning and really getting a light umami note after the top. Light musk but mixed with a non-ambergris ocean note(dried seaweed? Sweet oyster??)... this one is super top heavy right now. I wonder if age will bring out the base or if it will remain a dazzling opening with a quiet base.
Weirdly after this disappeared, it came back in the drydown with deeper Oud, orange peako tea and teak wood notes.

now I’m wearing a swipe of Ensar’s Hailam Kilam and it’s a whooooooole different vibe. Chinese medicine shop, toasted sesame/rooibos tea and musk musk musk over light Kinam notes. Very interesting. Would’ve almost thought attar and not pure Oud.

Grandawood "triple happines" sinensis co2 oil arrived. Very interesting stuff - definitely higher grade smelling than the zen path. This has a distinct cool floral aspect to the top note and rich woody heart and base. This co2 extract is closer to a distilled oil in term of scent concentration (not quite though). Also got a sampler of 5 or 6 cultivated oils. Quite different styles and educational to sniff. A quality array of Thai oils and a cultivated sinensis oil. Not bad stuff really looking forward to seeing exploring these.

Cambodi Oud Supreme - My favorite of all Cambodi oils. Very high tenacity.
Floral, bomb of ripen tart fruitiness, sweet animalic. Opening is mildly floral, very fruity and and animalic. The fun with this one is the periodic popping of the fruitness and animalic, it keeps transitioning back and forth, from fruity to animalic and from animalic to fruity.

Hi Brother, can you describe your take on Hailam Kilam. The description sounds interesting.

Sure! This is what I wrote on the FB page:
“Anyone else get the Hailam Kilam oil from EO? I’m just getting to know it over here. Very much reminds me of going into a traditional medicine shop in Chinatown and smelling all the deep musky, medicinal, spices and roasted sesame, toasted rooibos tea over a great Kinam numbing sensation. I’ve been searching for something that pierces straight through me like the first time I wore Hainan 05 and this isn’t that but it’s deep and beautiful and unlike any other Oud I’ve ever experienced.

a lot less bitter than most sinensis that I’ve smelled. Musky savory but no sharp edges. Very aged smelling with some Kinamic notes in the heart and a resinous woody drydown.”

Thanks so much brother. Can you draw any similitude with any other sinensis oils from EO or other artists?

It’s tough to find any real comparison for me... it shares some quality with Oud Ahmad... a certain musky quality but it’s not as much smoke. The Kinam note in this is different than a red or white or green note... it’s sort of shimmery gold... parts of it remind me of the savory umami notes from certain other oils(myanma gold has this note as well, thought it is much sweeter in general). I almost thought it smelled like an attar... there are so many different notes.

Beautifully said. Thanks brother. BTW Myanma Gold is an absolute gem, a bit on the sweeter side.

"The Kinam note in this is different than a red or white or green note..."

what does that mean?

Oud Al Amir from Ajmal.

Super Barny Hindi oil. No transitions, opening to he dry down smells same, strong barnyard smell. Smell like standing in a horse stable. I am not a fan of barny hindi, but its been over 6 months and I have not been able to part with this.

Opens up with cola-ish woody Malay oud and fruity Thai, then dries down into sweet candied Cambodi. there is an undercurrent cool quality as well. I guess it's Sri Lankan oud... all ingredients are great on their own but together, create this unity that showcases many facets of oud.
this is all about oud. kinda too sweet for my liking but very pleasant.

@EJayB did I nailed it? 🤔 whether I nailed it or not, it's a great blend.
