After months of testing Attars by Mehmet Abi @mesOUD I would like to share my experience 🙂
First off all, we know all that Mehmet isnt „just a vendor“. The first time I spoke to him I understood that he does this for passion, like who tf would distill Oud for 1 month? if we count the yield and how much hours he spent (+ woodcost) his Artisanal Oudoil prices are justified (altough I havent smelled one, but in sha Allah someday). Even though he is busy, he always answers fast and kindly, shipping from Turkey to Germany is also crazy. 👏
I literally blind bought Tarakan Qadeem and Oud Said after seeing positive feedback on the forum and I trusted Mehmet abi, as the Attar-Sampleset and Musk/Sandal maceration was my first order and I was hooked. Many talk about his Ouds but his Attars also deserve more recognization, especially AT THIS PRICE.
I would like to start with my favourite Attar and through the time im gonna review other.
My top 5 are
1. Aya Sofya
2. unreleased sweet musky perfume sample with no name, which he kindly sent me (this shi is crazy)
3. Al Ghaliya Badee [unreleased]
4. Fareed
5. Jasmine Tobac & Old Bazaar

Short review to my favourite Attar - AyaSofya:
Begins woody/oudy and the waxy notes from Propolis are also present. I also notice fruity notes -> it gives me slightly citrusy vibes (maybe from the turkish rose, ?davana?), spicy and a very orientalic feeling perfectly suiting the theme with AyaSofya/Ottoman Empire.

I will be looking forward for the next Soroor release and will review more and more in sha Allah. If Mehmet Abi says its insane, it has to be insane 😂. Oud Said alone is crazy enough 🙂

Couldn't agree more Sevki! I wore Deep Black on the previous two Eids, I enjoyed it that much. Was lost earlier today sniffing Fareed, and our top 5 more or less match with the exception of Old Bazaar which I would replace with Warrior's Sweat!

I would highly recommend anyone who's a fan of complex attars to give mesOud's a try because, if you're like me, you'll find in them a collection which is unparalleled in blending!

Deep black is probably one of the most sensual and meditative attars i have ever smelled. Really really beautiful and smooth. It feels primal in a positive way and somehow meditative and calming. I have to borrow the sample from my friend again just to smell it again 😅

Ambon on the left and close up. “Tarakan” on the right. The tarakan has a really nice minty quality similar to malinau wood which smells identical to Borneo3000.

Both woods from Sabily collection.

One thing I do want to mention….

Sellers and their perfume tho…i don’t think they realize it but it makes the wood smell like perfume. So on low temp, you get their perfume off gassing.

Ive had this occur from multiple sellers and I do not think the sellers realize this is occurring. It’s a minor inconvenience but still slightly annoying.

I get that some people go hard on perfume and fumigation as a lifestyle or part of their culture but maybe it would be wise to separate that out from the handling of commercial goods?

😊

Yeah I forgot about Warriors Sweat… its definitely a top Attar aswell. Maaan they are ALL good, shouldnt specify to top 5 😂😂 Deep Black is also nice, but somehow it was animalic (too dark, not unpleasant) for me idk even after testing several times. Maybe I have to test it even more and get used to it, as im still a newbie regarding Artisanal Attars.

Received a crazy package from a fellow member of the oud community! Generously offered me some samples of a variety of intense woods to try out. Really can’t put into words how kind the community is, time and time again I am astonished by the generosity I receive. I was even offered advice on which order to listen to them. Going to be a pleasure to have these alongside the small collection of other woods I treasure.

3K+ order and not even a piss worth free sample. I gotta admit it’s disappointing when you spend that kinda money with a vendor and don’t get a lil sumtin sumthin . EO and Al-hashimi very generous when you spend money with them. So is brother MesOud. I like generous vendors. And for the new guys getting into this artisanal oud world.… make purchases in $300-$800 increments. You get more for your buck! It’s almost like when vendors get a big purchase order… it’s like a hit and run for them…. Bad business practice. Anyways a lot of similarities between MesOud and Yusa’s stuff. Almost identical. Makes sense they have a collaboration though.

Just seen this... can you detail what samples we sent you? Perhaps @AbasFrag included some stuff, but we generally don't give out oud samples for free unless you are a regular customer. We prefer to do the annual sale where people can get amazing discounts for a short while.

Can we keep the language civil and polite please! On another note, the forum doesn't approve of vendors giving out free products to solicit positive reviews. It is not a problem with the reviewer declares that they have obtained the sample for free, but most people don't and it distorts the marketplace.

I dont know, it doesnt sound like you are being honest to me...

Yesterday you came in claiming you didn't get a free sample. Only for this to be refuted by Yuna, who pointed out that you did get free stuff.

Instead of being a gentleman and apologising for your blatant public lies about a vendor on this forum, you now come in with messages like these, even though you got a good amount of murasaki for free

😂😂 so someone messed up the order! Check the post I made a week or so ago of the three vials I got from yall and go figure… it was quite generous tbh and if it was a mistake… it was a good mistake because it just bought you a longtime customer that will 100% be dropping a nice ticket in your cart!

After a massive week away I've come home to a stunning little box full of Oudy goodness from @Al-Hind Oud. Thai Zen as the main event which I really cannot wait to try plus two samples. First one is Oud Qaysar? Excuse my spelling as I'm not wearing my glasses so please correct me if that's incorrect. It's a Hindi/Sumatra. What a combo! And the other is Lao Gold. Looks like a bottle of sunshine. And also very generously looks like a gram or two of white CK and a gram of vintage Mysore root because he knows how to get to my heart. Many blessings to you mate.

You know I had to take advantage of that crazy @mesOUD discount! Sad to see these oils go, as they were integral for me studying ouds initially. The value you get with his sampler set and any of these ouds is out of control. Excited to see what all his future ventures hold, and I’m glad I got to take advantage of these amazing deals while they were around.

Ordered from @mesOUD too! Sharing here so others can get the opportunity to try his fragrances at a smashing discount!

been looking for a special patchouli. thought i'd give JK's batch from 21 a try. compaired to Eden's "dark" patchouli, this one is a little darker in opening. a little touch of green compaired to more green (Eden) and a more complex drydown that will make for a beautiful perfume. he also sent this year's Indonesian batch... search ended.

i'm gonna have to do a full review on it when i get the 15mL bottle i ordered literally the next day. so, thats what i have incoming! this one is special. i'm a huge fan of the rare vetiver that displays only golden brown notes, and very little green. and this patchouli somehow doesn't display a green note in the opening typical of patches I've smelled before. it goes straight to a buzzing brown fuzz note that is well rounded in its dry down that is more subtle than the older one, but this skin-close scent is just perfection.

Just got this and placed my order with @SULAYM yesterday, great service, and great smelling oils so far, just got them and smelled them out the bottle, the green dragon is definitely kinamic!!!

EDIT: These oils (except green dragon as that is a real CK oil, I believe steam distilled because it smells like real high quality clean CK, and has real kinamic notes POSSIBLY similar to the Brunei Kyara oil I have if not more, but thats just me smelling it out the bottle... I bet me saying that will make people rush and buy it and I will get left with nothing and wont be able to get atleast a 1g bottle haha 😆, dont take my word for it yet though, I am wearing it tomorrow and will give my real first impression then, I am not even 100% it is steam distilled but I am pretty sure it is, just a hunch) are all wild btw. Oh and yeah, the little bottles are all free samples, incredible service at SULAYM, really, a 0.2-0.25g free sample???? of 3 different high quality Ouds? Cant get any better!!!

Can you wear patchouli essential oil on your skin like oud? I would have thought because patchouli oils, as well as frankincense essential oil, are very, very thin and liquid-y, and would run off your hand/wrist/arm?

I wear it as perfume all the time. Old "dark" patchouli (not light / iron-free) become as thick as tar as it ages. Not all patchouli thickens - I have two oils from 1993, one is thick/sticky like tar, the other quite fluid.

So most patchouli and frankincense E.Os are watery, how do you make it so you can wear them like oud? Put a lot of patchouli oil in some kind of thick carrier oil? What is the best carrier oil to use?

Don't have an answer on how one makes a thin oil thicker Renton, but with Frankincense E.O. it doesn't really last all that long, much nicer if you use it with a diffuser. Patchouli, at least the one I have from Sage is very thick but also doesn't really project all that much, I use it occasionally when I'm using bakhoor with charcoal.
