got some santalum spicatum logs inbound from New Mountain, along with some shredded austrocaledonicum! though i have these inbound, im still hunting for Australian heartwood or roots. ive got the itch to make a large batch of copper distilled oil since the last batch came out so beautifully.
I would like to have a dozen coasters just chopped off the end of one of those logs 😍

I’m surprised you don’t have one already. They’re very helpful especially with big batches. I got it from aliexpress
So far everything I have extracted has been easy to extract (and my batches are painfully small) so I haven't felt the need to get one.

Thank you brother! Always nice to come home and find something this precious on your doorstep.

I just received a package from Eden botanicals, ordered some of their frankincense oils (sacra and carterii) and a few other things. I'm not inclined to order bottles of the frankincense after smelling the samples - very odd notes in the carterii and the sacra is fine but kind of flat and seems to lack sparkle. I also got their fresh organic ginger - this is my favorite ginger oil by a fair margin, not that I'm a ginger connoisseur, but thos one is very fresh and citrusy and quite different from other ginger I recently sampled. I also ordered their Haitian vetiver which is a beautiful oil, and an opoponax oil... it smells like my sample from 30 years ago. The Peru Balsam is also quite nice - quite toppy - I would like to re-make my one of my perfumes using this particular Peru balsam for sure.

I got some samples from Mr @Goodness Nose himself today - have had just a whiff... nice stuff including a really ambitious no-holds-barred balls-to-the-walls musk/sandalwood infusion that makes my wallet hurt, a VERY lively aussie sandalwood, a musk-infused patchouli that is WELL musked, (plus a pinon and two Sandalwood oils that will have to wait until tomorrow because my nose is spent for the day and it doesn't matter how good they are they will smell mild after everything else).

That Musk in Sandalwood oil is what I'm going to have in my little portable stash when I do pop ups - just because it's over the top and you can't miss that classic accord, perfect thing to have on hand if someone shows up who is curious about simple authentic musk. Well done

I think this is the one that he posted a picture of (in the thread about Sandalwood based infusions?), and someone pointed out that it looked like it had a very high ratio of musk to sandalwood. It barely pours, had to turn the bottle upside down and wait a while... I think if you blend it up it would be a paste.

Slight exaggeration but maybe not... look:

All the ladies be swooning in the street if they get a wiff of that goodness! 😛😛🥰

I recently received a full bottle of ASO's Hudhayl and an almost-full bottle of Layth.
Plus a full bottle of Ajmal's Amiri.
Plus a full set of samples from Sulaym (Jade Blaze is incredible)
Plus a full set of samples from Habzoud

Methinks these will last a while... 😄
Hudhayl….you’re very lucky! Unfortunately I missed out on this one & from what I’ve heard, it’s an essential ASO Hindi.

Wasn't asked but wanted to chime in, I can see Grega's interpretation but personally Mousse de Chene's description is on point! If you've ever smelled Siberian Musk grains while they're still fairly moist, there's an almost soil like scent to them. I wouldn't go as far to say petrichor, but in that neighborhood. Sniffing my bottle again as I type this, and from the several times I've worn it, it's this concentrated resin leathery scent, but not sharp leathery. I can also smell the moss facet Mousse described. There's a lightness in the blend from the wild Thai used, but it's not anywhere as airy as something like ASO's A'Meen (which has a concentrated lemon cola note). Musk is for sure a major player here, and the oud kinda smells like a cross between a dark Maroke and a Kelantan oil. There is an airy-ness to the blend, but again as Mousse mentioned before me, it's not camphoric, instead it's more an earthy coolness one would find in the scent of petrichor.

This won't be helpful at all as a description, but the scent of Zumurrud (and Modhesh now that I think of it) reminds me of the scent on my beard after fumigating. Like you've just burned the most regal incense stick, with copious amounts of oud weeping with resin and musk. It's my reference for Siberian musk macerated in Malaysian oud, and it's a very addictive scent. I think wearing it with a jasmine sambac heavy attar or perfume could make it more feminine, if your palate so desires.
A perfect description of Siberian Musk grains, brother. I completely agree & haven’t previously heard of others speak of this soil-petrichor aroma. I perceive them as quite green & mineralic. In contrast to the sweeter more warm, chocolatey, fruity aspects of the Mongolian, the Siberian is dry, cold, earthy-soil, petrichor-mineral.
The animalic nuances of both regions are different, also. The Siberian is more urinous, sharper, more of an ammonia aspect while the Mongolian has a softer, rounded, less sharp, honeyed civet like tone.

Overall, I prefer Mongolian Musk, especially when smelling raw. In fact, one batch of the Mongolian grains I received from Sibermusk were so chocolatey & pleasant, for a while there I kept half a gram in a vial & was carrying it in my pocket for sniffs during the workday!

I’d love to be able to source Musk from other regions, but due to the legality & lack of connections it’s a difficult task.

thrilled to have received my first order with @Al Shareef Oudh last week:

*parfum discovery set
*arsalan hindi
*mysore
*royal luban resin
& dear AS included two extremely generous & beautiful gifts: samples of java arch (this kind of jungly petrichor oil is v much my thing, perfect : ) & khalouq

won't be able to do everything justice here as i am pacing myself to give each of these the intention & reverence that they deserve.

that being said, what i have smelled so far is on another level & i'm shocked at how transportive it is.

for now big shoutout to the ishraaq & ward perfumes. ishraaq for me is an instant contender for signature scent-- the composition & unfolding of this one is so uplifting, deep, and reassuring. ward-- what can i say about this one except potently psychoactive/imaginal inducing. the positioning of the rose in this, as almost a hologram hanging inside the bigger image of the scent rather than hitting you over the head, to be honest feels like a mini mystic experience. my wife loved this one as well.

so grateful to have been able to smell elevation-- easily my favorite spray perfume i've probably ever smelled-- & truly gutted that it doesn't exist anymore to buy : )

(of course packaging & attention to detail are luxurious & second to none)

@Al Shareef Oudh quite an emotional experience to put my head in these... i had a few friends over for valentine's day dinner & we spent the evening smelling these & dreaming aloud. bless your hands.

Ishraaq is a true masterpiece. This word is overused, I’m guilty of it myself, but it undoubtedly applies to Ishraaq.
It might be cliched, but it evokes the image of Arabian Royalty. A dignified, gentlemanly aroma of days gone by. Oud, Tobacco, Leather, Spice & the most glorious Musk dry down. Complex, deep & mysterious yet comforting. It never fails to light my brain up & inspire me with every wearing.
