I can see that. They're probably outside most people’s expectations of frankincense. I like them because they’re more succulent than Omani oils and have more of an orange rather than lemon cast to them. Ive been smelling camphor in everything lately so applying a small amount right now to revisit the notes I can’t really define what I like best. To me they are more friendly and warm rather than the regal austerity of oils from Oman. After my last few orders I would say ask An Najwa. I think his and my noses must be cousins. The Hojari resin he has reminds me the most of what wearing an oil is like. If he doesn’t have a comparable oil I wonder if you couldn’t tincture that resin. It was revelatory for me when Ive heated it. Just beautifully powdery, fresh and uplifting. Exultant and royal in scent and quality.
Sounds wonderful. I can totally appreciate pursuing those different avenues and nuances that the different Frankincense varieties bring and can relate to the orange / lemon and warm vs. regal. I feel the same way about the Omani being a little bit austere. I have a blend based on the tincture, and sweetened it up and modified that tart top considerably with among other things a bit of sweet orange, various balsams, vanilla etc..

Austrocaldonicum oil can be SO NICE but it almost never is when you see it for sale. Beautifully creamy when done right (and smells like plastic bags when done wrong, based on the oils that crossed my path). You will do it right no doubt...

One of the nicest sandalwoods i have (in its own weird way) is a rich old austrocaledonicum absolute. KILLER dry down - would make any sandalwood fan jump for joy. That oil and one EO i got from White Lotus were freaks - such good quality. Haven't seen the like since and gave up sampling new caledonian years ago after a string of disappointing samples.

Those logs 😀 I definitely understand the desire to have large pieces as part of one's environment!
if i do it the way i did the last batch, this might be really somethin' then!

The Vanuatu oil available at Hermitage is pretty nice. Worth checking out next time you buy from them.

Oof I can't do 20 bucks a gram for Vanuatu Sandalwood - that's bazonkers.

(OK that sounds a little rude I was just shocked because I am used to Vanuatu as a budget alternative and was expecting $3 per gram at most! I am most likely living in the past here lol)

Best true to material aroma of Frankincense could be made from tincture (extract/absolute)
The hydro distilled oils doesn’t fully capture the beauty of it.
I distilled that same Sultan Grade Frankincense last year
But i like Frankincense extract or absolute more
They have that indescribable powderyness and lemon sorbet like aroma
That i didn’t get in hydro distilled oils

I agree 100%. I ended up giving up on using oils in the Frankincense fragrance that I make.

This anticipation thread is somehow not my jam 😅 Every time I want to write what I am waiting for, I get busy, the package arrives and its not "anticipation" anymore but anyway here is some gems I was really looking for.
Ps. I cant beleive I got my hands on Pinoy Imperiale after I missed it because it sold out quick. To the ouddict member: Thank you 🤍

Really excited to get my hands on the Qaf Collection (Ramadan Fundraiser from @SULAYM).

Here we've got musk macerated in Jasmine, Champaca, Night Blooming Jasmine, Vintage Gardenia, all making appearances in different compositions, among countless other precious aromatics!

Just take a look at the copy written for these, soul stirring and contemplative especially Firdaus, which I'll quote here:
"Inspired by the single word ayah where scholars of tafsir narrate that it refers to two gardens of Paradise, overflowing with lush greenery, so dense it appears almost black. A scent that embodies abundance, beauty, and eternal freshness."

do you have any idea where to find a peony blossom distillation or extract?
I've noticed the following place selling some pretty interesting macerations/ enfleurage extracts. I think you will end up with a fixed oil that has been saturated with the aroma. I have no experience with this company
