That all makes sense. It makes me wonder though at the transparency of big oud/oil producers that pump out hundreds of litres of the stuff as to how they get their supply of wood so quickly? Or is this really not a thing?
Honestly I don't know much about it, but a while back I watched a long documentary from Sokkat AlTeeb with English subtitles and he went with some of his students to a distillery factory in Thailand. They had almost a made to order setup, you could choose the wood and the soaking time and how many "pulls" of the oils you wanted to keep and they'd do it for you. What shocked me was just how massive the operation was, and how clean, almost clinical, the equipment was all very professional. It kinda blew me away, considering oud oil could be mass extracted at this scale, and hydrodistilled at that!

One aspect the documentary really impressed upon me, was within plantation oils there's levels and one can't just imagine booking a trip to Thailand, grabbing an oil and selling it. There's careful consideration which needs to be made on a batch by batch basis. Though this was most likely marketing material so take these insights with a grain of salt 😂

Do you have a link to this doco? Does sound interesting. Anything produced at mass scale holds no interest for me..whether it be oud or wine. Plenty of people prefer artisinal whatever but there seems (particularly in China) where bulk produced is preferred as it gives access to an historically expensive and limited in number "thing" to the man on the street. It cheapens the experience for me though. It's like counterfeit Nikes. Fake.

Absolutely, here it is . You know how to get the subtitles correct? Auto Generate Arabic subtitles and then translate from that to English, all from the "Gear" button.

I can see that angle for sure, but let me share an alternative POV. A famous essential oil distiller in India whom Nikhil interviewed for his channel on site at a Rose farm in Hasayn, India mentioned that while the Deg Bhapka method is traditional it suffers from many inefficiencies, whereas in Bulgaria they use modern steam distillation to get a higher yield. Sure the oils are different but I think of it much like cleaning the last bit off the plate, it's just a way to reduce waste with this extremely precious product.

I'm conflicted, on the one hand I'm against bad mass productions. I personally want everyone to experience what I'm enjoying, perhaps not the exact same thing but near enough, because I'd rather have a main stream fragrance/oil that I can discuss with others as opposed to an ultra exclusive only I have. The discussion aspect of a fragrance holds a lot of value for me.

That makes total sense and I appreciate your POV 😁🙏 thanks for the link as well. I'll give it a go. Not much else to do with this cyclone looming.

I have a few small 0.3g samples coming in from Sultania Aromas. I started chatting with Tee and his knowledge and products sounded so great I had to place an order. I am really excited to try these oils from a vendor I have never experienced before. I have the following coming in:
Osman Ghazi (2024 Wild Miri Sarawak
Mehmet (2023 Wild Meghalaya)
Suleiman (2024 Wild Blue Aceh)
King Naga (2022 Wild Nagaland)
Mehmet Attar

I have been anticipating so many things coming my way and sharing about it here, I am now anticipating something going the other way! Vintage oils and my blending experiments... I've learned a lot from the @mesOUD distillations and I am hoping some of these vintage oils have some value as reference or benchmark specimens - these are going to Mehmet, he is working some of his logistics magic to help make it happen!

I was just happy to confirm that a set of samples that I must've put in the mail close to a month ago finally got to the state they were supposed to go to, and I am hoping for a delivery to @AlHind Oud tomorrow or the next day.

I sent some of my perfumes (I will register here before selling or offering anything for sale around here, no worries), two different Jasmine oils that I distilled myself, the Harlaka 2002 Tamil Nadu Sandalwood oil, and I don't recall what else.

I am looking forward to a special batch of Indonesian Sandalwood which will be coming my way sooner or later - ambient distillation of wild heartwood. It's a work in progress I am told, and something I am very much anticipating! Some to put away for posterity, some for perfumes, and some for my customers in the shops who have a hankering for pure sandalwood.

Finally will be able to put my nose to these exquisite samples. Can’t wait to dig in one by one. There are lot of samples and it’ll probably take me some time to study all.

Thanks again @Mr.P

I'm glad they made it intact! Very happy to be sending things back your way finally. The typo on the jasmine "jamine" sample label is bugging me 😂
