Went pretty crazy this morning with the latest Dr. incense drop and got the Pureland, Bright Mirror, and Sinking Tarakan Kynam Version.
After sampling dozens of different incenses for the last year or so I often find myself craving one of his creations. Something about the style and consistency brings me back over and over again.

I can never afford his offerings. Lucky you.

My purchase from Al Shareef arrived today. It consists of the Khadra Perfume, the Oud Discovery Set, and a sample vial of the Ward Attar. They are so generous to include free samples of Phra Siam and Eelam too!

I've been casually following their instagram for some time, but it's only now that I've made my first purchase from them.
On the perfume side of things, I'm a huge fan of fougère, so when I saw their Khadra launch, I was highly intrigued and decided to research more about them. After reading all the glowing reviews about them, I reckon it's worth the risk for a blind buy.

At the same time, on the oud side of things, I've only been dabbling in incense and more recently in oud chips, but I've never tried any attars or oud oils before. With Al Shareef's stellar reputation on their attars and oud oils, I figure it's the perfect time to start my journey in this area, with their oud discovery set setting the baseline for me to start exploring the world of oud oils.

Al Shareef is a great house. There are some gems amongst his oud offerings, but for me he shines the most in his Attars. None come close to the level his Attars are at.

Please let us know your thoughts on the khadra perfume.

600g of a small batch patch distillation and 30g of an indo s. Album from a discord perfumery guy. I have high hopes, he seems earnest and well respected there, small enough to not be a vendor doing bulk yet, so I guess we'll see

Patch distillation run was single batch and he bought the full run, 4kg or so, so still small. Sandal also single batch, and apparently a bit unique, but we'll see

I've got a bunch of old Mysore root wood and some nice resinous CK coming my way; in this case I'm extracting the material for @AlHind Oud (as opposed to for my own projects) and it's nice to be able to contribute something.

The "resinoid absolutes" or "resinoids" of these woods have some very interesting properties that complement the products of other methods very nicely.

I got a preview, some chips of each of the materials, and they are both excellent. The CK I can reasonably predict the outcome of, I've done two sandalwood resinoids and they were different enough that I have less certainty in terms of what to expect from the sandalwood. Both of them were excellent interesting rich smelling sandalwood extracts, but were quite different from one another in terms of the details, and I wonder where this one will fall between the two (or if it will be an outlier in its own way).

The oil extracted from recently harvested wild Sumatran heartwood took a little longer to develop a refined rich aroma than the other, which was from older chips I've had for a couple of decades (which I was told were of Indian origin). Really pretty drastically different two days after extraction - some kind of distracting note in the young one but a couple of months later it lost the off note, and though they are different their aromas have have converged a bit in a good way.

I have plenty of experience with the time it takes for a distillation to lose its still notes (the cooked vegetation note in a fresh cologne takes about a month to fade without fail), and was expecting something similar with the resinoids. Turns out they go through just as much change if not more and really can't be evaluated immediately after extraction with any kind of confidence.

This is my little haul from ScentExpo!

Elkhaldi Studio Castoré Rouge (bottle) and Nightfall Neroli (sample)

I found all four of the ES fragrances available at the event to be surprisingly gourmand, particularly in the openings. I chose the rose-forward perfume because I really liked how the castoreum brought out jammy, gummy-candy notes from the roses (at least that’s how I read it!)

Al Hashimi Al Gha’liya Al Hambra (bottle) and Mekong (sample)

Another musk-forward attar from this house to go with the two fantastic examples I already have. This will be great when the weather cools down.

FP Malay Privée, ChenXiang XX and Malinau Absolut 2

Like Nadeem’s, Faizal’s range was so extensive it would have been impossible to meaningfully sample it all. Once you have a few swipes on each hand it all starts to overlap. So I decided to divide and conquer geographically…got a Malay, a Borneo and a Hainan Sinensis!

And finally…just to prove there was something for every wallet at the event…some FP bead scrap (looks like CK) at just £30 for 10g. This was putting out very delicious, sweet wafts and perfuming the space wonderfully…I bought on the aroma alone without properly asking what it was (lol). Faizal said he literally had over a kilo of this wood at the event.
