I don't consider myself to be a connoisseur of this type of vetiver (wild harvested Indian seed-bearing vetiver) but it is very interesting stuff and incredibly complex… this smells excellent - such a rugged aroma, khus always brings earth, roots, resin, root vegetables and metal to mind, and this one has them in nice balance.
Khus enthusiast this side. Today I applied some pre-90s Khus released recently by an Indian house who have a long-rooted family business in Kannauj. (Sabdulsamiperfumers on Instagram)

The overall aroma is certainly Kadim/Ancient yet clean. (Which goes to show the Khus was well prepared and well preserved.)
Imagine freshly washed & soaked roots locked away in oak barrels for several decades and the environment is kept clean & hygienic. No mould, bacteria or fermentation.

Due to prolonged ageing (probably leather kuppi), consistency has become ultra greasy and almost tar-like (has a hint of Birch/Pine tar-like note in the initial whif). Naturally, the top fresh crystalline minty grassy notes have merged into the heart & base. Color has turned greenish brown, probably started as emerald.

The oil has an astringent quality to it, almost betadine-like. Bitter and herbal, yet clean and fresh. There’s no cooling sensation on skin, yet the fumes feel cool. (The inherent cooling DNA is permanent it seems)
Stays close to skin but the intensity & strength do not diminish.

Can’t talk about longevity coz the only way this stops smelling is through physical removal via soap. For 15$, definitely something to collect and view as a part of history.

@Faizal_p autumn in guangxi. I’m a sucker for good complex attars that take you on a ride.

It’s fascinating how many layers unfold - white flowers, hints of floral musk, green indolic then citric freshness, red incense sticks. All the while outlined by beautiful oud oils - flashy, sweet, herbal, sharp green.

A game I like to play with these amazing compositions is to try to guess the notes before comparing to fp’s detailed descriptions.

Thank you for making these amazing attars 🙏

Bourhan Oud - Kehailan

2nd time I’m applying this blend and it’s much better this time around as the ingredients had time to mesh. Some of the ingredients are but not limited to: various Oud oils of different regions, Amouage oils, and Henry Jacques oils.

It has this beautiful, clean, slightly sweet, boozy, liquor 🥃 scent that’s intoxicating. I absolutely love this aroma. This blend is an artful integration of various oils that has been well-executed and just gets better as time passes. I’m very pleased right now.

(Homemade) - Awwal Al Sultan

This was my first blend that started on 22/Nov/2025. I named it Awwal Al Sultan because it was my first creation. It was made using the following ingredients:

- Nepalese musk

- Prachin with rose

- Sandalwood oil

- Trat floral Oud

- Koh Kong Oud

-Ward bulgare

- First prachin Oud

- Bronze oud

- Palace Oud

- Taif rose

- Dragons blood with rose from Socotra

- SQ zuhoor alSalateen floral blend

- Indian Frankincense oil

- Indian ambergris oil

- Cypriol

- Saffron

It has now passed the recommended 6 months of aging in order to try it. I must say it is really lovely but the rose and Oud drowned out the musk on this occasion. Also, I never crushed the grains during pre-blending.

I'm also getting the frankincense oil which is coming off as a weird ammonia scent. I think more time maturing might do it good

This isn't as good as my 2nd blend which I called Misk Al Fajr. It has less ingredients and more of musky beauty to it.

I'm thinking of buying real ambergris and adding it to a simple musk, sandalwood, rose, and Oud blend. I just bought a lot of oils and ingredients for blend and not sure what I'm going to do next.

We’ll see. Overall, it's a learning curve and I've learned a lot so far with the help of this community.

Where does rich creamy sandal end and deep woody incensy oud start and where do they meet? hard to tell in the bilquis 4 by @AlHind Oud

Brother Anas has the cleanest customer experience end to end - right from the website, descriptions, packaging, comms etc. The clarity, restraint and simplicity of a true master - all of which show up in his work too.

Cant wait to see how this one ages..

Bed time swipe(s) of one of my all time favorite blends: tulsi, frangipani, Peru balsam and sandalwood. Cool, green spice meets torrid, floral and over the top. A low effort, massive impact accord. You can dress this up and pull it any number of ways. It’s a great simple concoction on its own if you want a loud floriental. This always reminds me of that 80’s perfume Cinnabar. Absolutely zero subtlety.

Bilquis 3 on one side, Bilquis al Ward on the other. Both of these are distilled attars made by @AlHind Oud and they are fascinating especially side-by-side. The richness/bouquet of the sandalwood in the Bilquis 3 is especially nice I think, and once again I'm struck by how complementary CK and sandalwood oils are. I generally avoid wearing oud and sandalwood together - I will not apply any fine oud oil on a day where I have a base of sandalwood because even traces of sandalwood on the skin completely ruins the bouquet / balance of most fine ouds for me.

From these oils and layering experiments I feel like the sandalwood somehow allows the core CK aroma to come through while dampening a couple of the facets of CK i find less appealing.

The Bilquis al Ward is a treat, with enough rose to very much lift / change the overall aroma and at the moment I'm experiencing the CK and the rose elements most strongly. Has me wondering about the type of sandalwood used in Bilquis 3 - because the sandalwood is quite pronounced and beautifully woody.

I love these distillations and the fact that things like this are getting made. In a world filled with a whole bunch of degeneration, it's like a hint of the possibility of a new kind of "micro golden era" (?) when it comes to those who appreciate rustic/traditional old-school fragrances.

The scent of the night/day for me is my right thumb. Breaking apart some ambergris to add to oud attars and got some under my thumb nail along with the Indian oud it was going into. Now it’s on my neck face and hair ( on purpose). One of those smells that can’t be blended or approximated. I guess I could make a paste that might smell like this but the two raw materials together is pure magic.

A while back I was preparing to do some systematic experimentation with oil based attars and settled on santalol natural isolate as the carrier. Santalol is hardly a neutral carrier but I felt comfortable embracing a group at all share a sandalwood type foundation and I didn't want to use any fixed oils. Was also considering gurjun and copaiba, which are relatively mild and would allow for some alternatives to the sandalwood dimension.

Today I took a swipe of the orris dilution - 10% orris butter in santalol. Orris is a fascinating material - shares some of the "interior latex paint" facets i get from some ouds but of course that's a superficial association and there's much more going on that. Sweet, earthy, very much violet-like.

Guess, posts like this, we now all expect to read what the cat thinks of it.. 🙂

Is this thread only for aromatic mixtures? Or any
other oils / extracts than oud or sandalwood?

Feeling like a broken record but often when I swipe, I don't feel the need to post here about it. But when I swipe TOL - PURPLE HAZE I am captivated to post here every time.

Today I was greeted with intense purple kinamic notes shooting up my nose, intensely cooling and numbing

I have described the scent in more detail before so I will spare you all that.

lingering anxieties that have plagued me recently are quieted when I smell this. Peace

Posts like this do make me feel joyous and honored. It also invokes a trail of thought and a sentiment.

Personally (as the perfumer and @The Oud Lab), every creation comes from a vision, an intention and feeling that I want to invoke and realize and live. To personally live it and experience it. And only when I feel that the vision is complete, then I'd release it.

Every creation is a self expression that came from knowledge, taste, experience, discipline and practice. It's an expression of a human being with the totality of his life to relay or invoke an experience.

And when I read a post like yours, it truly warms my heart. As i do know that I was a medium in God's plan to be able to share a medium (creation) that adds a quality experience to someone's life.

I bet @Kai Leon Art Perfumer and @melkhaldi share that sentiment too.

All in all, it warms my heart reading this. Vision accomplished. Enjoy the experience 🫡🔥🌹

Well said!

As a buyer, I can only do my best to experience the products I own without preconceptions or bias. Sometimes the meaning behind the product is so clear one does not need to search for it.

From application to drydown this attar has an effect on the mind. Energizing upon application - calming at times - introspective - grounding

As many of us here know all too well, many creations must be experienced to understand. It is too often hard to find the words. Not just scent and notes - meaning and feeling. My compliments on this fine blend.
