Sultan Qaboos Oud Royale 82' Much praise has been given to this oil in the oud community and I believe it is well deserved. What really sets this oil apart from all other vintage oud oils is the quality of the wood that went into the pot. And it shows. Deeply resinous, super smooth Merauke profile with no rough edges, no high-pitched notes, and the most brain-piercing blue incense chord that becomes prominent and everlasting after around 20 minutes of the oil hitting the skin. I'll swipe some of Mellifluence's An Nabi on my other wrist. I feel it would go perfectly together. Aged high-quality oud oil with aged high-quality musk. Both of them are dark yet showcase a super smooth profile due to their age and raw material quality.

Many thanks to @Faizal_p for sourcing some of this legendary oud oil for us.

@mesOUD Abi Papua Muting

After 4 days of not being able to smell and taste (because I had a cold but Alhamdulillah ) it is really fulfilling to smell this beautiful oud oil. I will InshaAllah review it in full depth

It was really kind of depressing not being able to smell since it is such a big part of my daily life. It is not only a hobby or a job for me but it is the only thing I can and love.
You have al these beautiful essential oils, absolutes and oud oils in front of you and you open a amber Glas bottle just to realize it is useless.
Nonetheless I did some theoretical work instead

I don’t wish this to anyone.
Really thankful that it is over now. Alhamdulillah.

Cowabunga, this morning wearing a sample of Calypso from your friend and mine, Sam @Maunamoku

Just a dab on the back of my hand, aroma permeating the office. the jungle, ripe with life, semi sweet and vivid with thoughts of an oceanic breeze coming inland over warm sands of southern seas. A Delicate amber tone that's intertwined with soft leather and ambergris.

Maunamokus, Hirta Deadwood. This is my first "new gen" oud oil, and it is extremely different from any other oud oil I have tried, it is more subtle even with fat swipes, but as it settles on the skin you can really FEEL it, like feel it within you. I was getting note changes every couple of mins at the start and still am, but I think the note changes are slowing down now after nearly an hour of having it on. I get notes that are super close if not identical to heating./burning agarwood used in the oil, notes of fruity, florals, oudiness, resin, wood, jungle notes and when I said floral just there, I really mean, FLORAL. It is super clean as well, feels super refined. I love this oud, but with new gens you have to give yourself time to develop your nose to it and then it reveals itself. I would say oils like these are the Japanese (incense) of Oud Oils. Fantastic stuff @Maunamoku.

EDIT: I even got some sort of "Kinamic" notes for a bit, it was minty green lushy cinnamon sweetness.

Habzoud Oud Xiangshui

Received my sample yesterday and have worn it a couple times trying to take a deep dive.

This oil starts with the familiar Sumatran wet jungle petrichor vibe. Slight hints of some florals, vanilla, and powdery notes. As It transitions these notes meld together into one unified chord: a deeply woody incense drydown, like the soul of this wood being heated. The drydown to me is very reminiscent of some borneo oils I’ve tried. It particularly reminds me of Faizal’s Borneo Bliss.

One thing to note, I will say this is a bit of a subtle oil that requires a decent sized swipe. Projection isn’t crazy strong. However it seems the strength of the scent builds a bit over time, smelling a bit stronger an hour or two after the initial swipe. Overall a nice clean high grade oil.

An Najwa - Pinoy imperiale
My 1st Philippine oil and its amazing.
Started off floral slightly medicinal and fruity. It's the most floral opening I have ever experienced. Almost like you are smelling white flowers directly. And as you go deeper and push these flowers aside, your nose hits a hill of vanilla. It gave me borneo vibes. This crispy clean vanilla is then slowly covered with a layer of herbs and spices.
A delicious sweet oil like Baklava

Fragrant Harbour - Attar Store

This one stands head and shoulders above over Hainan/Sinensis oil that I've tried. Given that this is my favorite region, Ive tried just about all of them that I could get my hands on.

Super clean, bittersweet, crystalline display of high grade Hainan wood with a lil something special mixed in from the Hong Kong wood. I haven't heated much HK wood or tried any other HK oils so I can't exactly articulate the notes it gives, but I can tell there is something going on beyond what I've experienced in other Hainan oils.

It def has that brain freeze effect for me with a deep inhale without being aggressive or feeling contrived like a lot of Taiwanese oils I've had.

Tbh a lot of the taiwan oils(Oriscent) I tried smelled contrived to me.

There was the blatant gas o line vapor plastic tape smell artificially put on whatever the profile of the region might be. It was not like an integrating profile or experience but felt disjointed.

Whereas the oils Ive I had from @Hamza H are more wholistic and integrated, not contrived like the gasoline note was just forced on top to make it "kynamic."

I can say smelling this oil off my hand delivers quite a similar experience to putting my nose in a jar of white or green kynam powder.

The scent profile is of course not identical, but the qualitative experience is there, which I am guessing was the experience the distiller was aiming to recreate.

Calypso from Maunamoku. I have been trying to think of a way of describing this oil that is different to Maunamoku’s description but his one to me is the perfect description. This is a very enjoyable oil to wear, really does bring mountain and jungles to mind, and a depth whe there is a misty freshness which i can relate to the cloud and the gentle wind, a slight saltiness which brings the distant ocean to mind, the rest of the notes i recommend you read maunamoku description in case you have not read it!

Is this one of his new gens like the Hirta Deadwood, that I have? That stuff is crazy good, and confusing at times. First time I wore a new gen and it was from Sam, "Hirta Deadwood", and I picked up more insane beautiful notes the first day (Sam told me it can take a while to get a hang on picking up the notes but I did it first day, or so I thought) then the second day it was frustrating and I couldnt pick up the notes I did before, it was more basic. These oils have a mind of their own lol, the new gen ones, it all depends on how your skin is that day, how your mind is, ESPECIALLY your mind, and other factors. Hirta Deadwood is a serious oil, I cant wait to try more of his new gens and even some of his traditional's, but I dont know which ones are his old skool, but I shall ask him 😀

A huge swab of a blend I made to highlight and present a quintessential Dehn al Oud of great age and character. Hindi as if aged in new Oak barrels, not new gen but without any over soaked or over cooked character. Smooth, woody oud with light tobacco, cocoa with a date like sweetness.

HM Malay by SULAYM. Haven't worn this one in a couple of weeks, I think, and I was in the mood for this tbh. Took a couple fat swipes and then it began. Notes of oozing resin, purple hue berries, a sharp cooling note (that starts to go away after 15 mins of settling on skin), and leather. After 15mins it died down a bit (it was very intense lol) and the woody note came in, leather still intact as well as the berries, notes of an oudiness with the wood, the wood has a scent to it like old wood in an old, ancient even, building. Lovely oud. As this develops there will most likely be a powdery floral note as well as a smokey incense note, will I pick it up this time though? Who knows? That's the beauty of oud.

Takengon Aceh - Rising Phoenix Perfumery

There are a few types of smoky ouds. Some of them have a “burnt” type of scent to them. Some have a sweetness and a “caramelised” facet. Others come out like this…

It’s kind of difficult to describe what exactly I’m smelling here so bare with me.

On one hand…. Super clean “perfumed/pretty” oud. This is a new gen oil made in a stainless still. Sweet, perfumey oud. High-pitched florals, honeyed sweetness, a distinct “sappiness” as well. As though someone smeared “agarwood tree-juice” under your nose. As squeaky clean as you can get and typical for new gens. Kind of boring… right? If it was JUST this, then maybe.

Fortunately, that is not where the story ends. With this lovely Sumatran oud you also get a distinct smoke note. It’s very hard to describe exactly what this smells like. But the best description I can think of is the way fresh-roasted coffee smells (and this is the description JK himself uses as well). With this unique “roasted” presentation, this oud really stands out.

One downside is that it doesn’t last super long, you’re kind of lucky to get ~4 hours of projection out of it. After that, it really mellows out and leaves a cool Smokey and slightly animalic drydown on the skin that is quite faint. It’s a great little creation though. I hope JK can get more like this but maybe more potent. My suspicion is that it is very difficult to find this kind of “balance” in terms of smoke versus oud. You maybe run the risk of getting some more challenging notes into the final picture? Luckily JK seems to have struck liquid gold with this batch. Worth smelling if you haven’t experienced a Smokey Oud oil “done right”.

Hindi Jadeed 2 from Alhind. For me starts off with a slightly sweet almond note then progresses to a slight fruity floral and a hint of tea and animalic. The animalic becomes slightly leathery and the fruity floral fades to the background while the tea pushes forward. is kinda sugary sweet maybe amaretto note with a resinous heart. The dry down the sweetness eases off, quite powdery resinous note with a bite, seems to have quite a lot going on I really like the dry down of this one!

Habzoud - Hindi X
Its time to sleep with this beautiful oil. It is the first hindi oil that I can inhale deeply without the sharp barn scratching my nostrils. Its satisfaction barn.
From the vial I get a wonderful chocolate note that doesnt show up much on my skin 🥲 Still its amazing. Tea spices honey tamarind silky happiness.
If this is a fresh oil, age will make it legendary.
